LG 6x Blu-Ray Burner Available in Korea

"LG has officially today announced the release of the first Blu-Ray/HD
DVD Super-multi DVD burner capable of writing at 6x on Blu-Ray media.

The new GGW-H20L is the successor of the currently available GGW-H10N Super-multi Blu-Ray /HD DVD combo drive. Basic specifications include a SATA interface, support for Lightscribe, 6x burning for BD-R media using the CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) writing strategy, 3x HD DVD-ROM reading (15GB and 30GB), 16x writing for DVD+/-R media and 40x for CD-R. Another strong advantage of the new drive is the support for 4x BD-R DL (50GB) burning, which means that you will be able to write approximately 46 GB of data in less than 50 minutes."

Edit: I see, 6x on single layer 4x on dual.

Still not quite fast enough for my burning needs(50 minutes for 1 disc)
But its getting there! OR perhaps I'm just spoiled with being able to burn a double sided DVD in 7 or 8 minutes.

But ... 9 min * 5.5 discs = ~50 min to burn = 50gb (in dl dvds)
... 50 min * 1 disc = 50 min to burn = 50gb (in dl blu-ray)

+ the single layer discs now burn at 6x.

Of course, this is if you had to burn the same amount of data, but why would you NOT fill up a BD at this time?

bah I'll wait in till the burners hit $200 mark, in till then it's pointless for me to buy one. All my work backups have to be read on multiple computers not just the few with a blu-ray drive

I bought a 500Gb back-up drive for $90. This burner is $526, a single blank is $40 and you can only write to the blank ONCE! You could buy six 500Gb back-up drives (3 terabytes) for $25 less than buying the burner and ONE 50Gb blank. The days of optical disc back-up are loooooooong dead.

Btw, it takes less than 15 minutes to back up 50Gb on my $90 drive.
