Oh the irony, Nintendo news channel admits PS3 beat it in Japan last month.

Ah, the irony: a reader sends us this screenshot of the Nintendo Wii News channel admitting its own four-week "defeat" against the Sony PlayStation 3. It's either that a) the channel editors feel they are not being paid enough, b) that Nintendo doesn't give a damn about giving the losing side some respite, c) nobody edits the channel or d) you are all a bunch of Apple Sony fanboys

Publishing a news story that didn't glorify Nintendo on it's own channel shows maturity. They even had the story about Nintendo failing the "environmental safety" rating or whatever it was. This helps prove that Nintendo puts newsworthy stuff out there instead of using this channel to gloat.

Unbelievable how morons can spin this story to make Nintendo look bad. Props to Nintendo for not being afraid to admit when they've been beaten and give props to a competitor. And that's how it should be - the Wii is still selling amazingly, so no harm done if the PS3 sells well too.

...much respect for Nintendo. I can't see Sony and MS admitting defeat of each other (like the 2:1 ratio rumor), but this was really cool and unexpected. Now that Wii Fit is out, I think this is another way of saying "they might have won last month, but Wii Fit will make us on top again".

i know wii fit will do well but it makes me as a gamer want to connect my palm and my forehead together for how casually annoying it is.
But i cant really hate Nintendo for selling what will sell well, also they are what saved video games back in the day so i cant hate on them too much.

I have respect for Gizmodo but why are they trying to make Nintendo look bad? Why is it bad for them to admit a one month defeat to the PS3? It's the truth and I give mad respect for them doing that. Sony and Nintendo got some major love in Japan so it's only right they enjoy the competition and realize that the market is big enough for all consoles. Irony has to do with things happening opposite to what was expected, in a funny way. How is it ironic that a news service reported news?

Does anyone really think the relatively small company of Nintendo searches all the news stories and approves them before they go out? Gimme a break.

I've got some irony for you: Wii and PS3 come out, and the wii gets knocked for low specs, but sells out at an affordable price, yet nobody will buy the PS3 supersystem, because it's too pricey. Next Christmas, due to high demand for the wii, people buy it for as much as the PS3 originally cost! Now THAT is irony.

Strange... I don't feel this is news, since we already knew about the news a few days ago. Even more strange is that Sony isn't bragging about it and nintendo isn't drumming up excuses... I think if this was Microsoft beating Nintendo in Japan it'd have been a whole different "WE DID IT IN YOUR FACE!!!" story.

I don't know the details but I believe Nintendo buy the news feed from press agencies. As such, they aren't edited by Nintendo, which is a game company and not a news provider. I don't get why people get excited by this. If they were censoring the news, then it would be something. But by being honest is no less no more than I expect from them.
