Sony PS3 beats Nintendo Wii in Japan monthly sales (November)

Tokyo, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Sony PS3 outsold Nintendo Wii in Japan in November for the first time since the machines were launched last year, showing Sony may finally be overcoming a slow start versus its upstart rival.

Sony sold 183,217 PS3s in Japan in the four weeks to Nov. 25, topping sales of 159,193 Wii consoles, said game magazine publisher Enterbrain, a key watcher of trends in the sector.

i don't believe to see the FF13 in 2008...

but MGS4, GT5, GTA4 and may be white knight story will do a big bang in ps3 sales...

the FF13 will be the finishing move in 2009:P and everything great that cames will always be good! games like god of war, UT, still waiting for FF7 remake:P

with that remake i would die happy^-^

1.3 - It's not only the awesome 2008 games that will sell the PS3

Think about it... You'll want one before Christmas because there's some awesome games already out... Resistance, Motorstorm, R&C, Heavenly, Uncharted, COD4, EoJ (big fan of this one, sry) and many more, so no need to wait anymore. And sure enough, 2008 looks awesome.

Being an early adopter, I have to admit, I envy people who are buying the PS3 now. Great games to choose from, and awesome future. Only problems they are having is "Which games to get first!"

Strange, the small victories really do add up... hahahah... Sony trounced Japans ass this month. Keep in mind, box boys and nintendrones... Not a 1 RPG is out for the Ps3 yet. Not a native one... Oblivion is a western game and it wasn't well recived on either xbox 360 or Ps3 so far over there.

When White Knight hits, Trust bell... it's over.

Folklore and Enchanted Arms were on PS3. Also the Japanese like name brands and just because it's an rpg doesn't necessarly mean it's going to sell like crazy in Japan. Resident Evil 5 and DMC4 are among the most anticipated just like White Knight and FF are, so it doesn't have to be the RPGs.

Yeah but Folklore is mostly an Action Adventure game with RPG elements (like Genji 1), and Enchanted Arms. ..no. I own both of them but I don't even think From Software thought the game was going to be stellar. But you're totally right on RE5, DMC4, and White Knight Story. The latter I'm hoping Level 5 delivers on the story, they already nail gameplay down on every RPG they do.

15,000 consoles in japan for the month of nov.?

People over here in the US keep saying the ps3 needs to be saved.. From the looks of it, its the other way around.. The 360 needs saving in other countries other than the US.. PS3 is right on the 360's trail over here in the states.. But its killing the 360 in japan and europe..

Let Sony keep on selling well around the world. This is good news. I've been saying that all they need to do is turn a profit and survive this generation(after a big pitfall early on)and learn for the next round. With small victories like this, that's certainly possible.

So Novemeber was sony's month in japan. LOL!!! thats great watch for december... GT5 prologue is going to be the top selling game over there. Wii fit comes out in january and lost odyssey comeout in japan in december, Lost Odyssy will selevate xbox 360 sales to about 20 grand if marketed heavily but expect next month to be all PS3 and Wii in second there is a shortage on Wii and the PS3 will be in full steam cranking out and heavily marketing the system sellers DW6 hotshot golf 5, Winning eleven 2008, and the biggest one of them all for that year GT5 prologue, and thats not even the full GT5 experience ^^ christmas is going to be awesome for PS3 owners in japan...

and in 2008 as Bathyj said PS3 owners faces are gonna be swell and stiff from smiling soo much in that year. it's gonna be a big bang and the world will be put back into proper perspective after 2007's critical and essencial christmas rush. believe it ^^ good job sony you have started to show whats up keep it up. you should be able to out sell the wii next mnonth and january and maybe even febuary and march with your games hitting nicely disgea is hitting japan in january that gonna be huge along with DMC4 against wii fit and super smash bros brawl. it's coming in quite nicely

I think it's from 3 reasons. new sku, winning eleven(PES), sangoku-musou(I don't no the name in English and I can't understand why this game is so big in Japan).
Next month is weak a bit. Only GT5 and I don't think GT5 will be strong move in here(GT's main market is EU, I think).

The only thing that can kill PS3 sales is standalone cheap Blu-Ray player. "Games attach rates" are practically the proof that many people are buying PS3 just to watch movies. I mean, PS3 has the lowest attach rate of all 3 consoles, but still BluRay media keep outselling HD DVD in worldwide sales (notice that I said "BluRay media", not "standalone BluRay players"). Or maybe I'm wrong...

it's the developers that need to come up to speed and start delivering TRUE next gen titles like Sony's first party studios are doing. PS3 owners are more discerning than xbots and won't buy crap with a next gen coat of paint on it.

Nintendo has the lowest attach rate. The attach rate for the PS3 right now is similiar to the 360's 1st year attach rate. And only about 25% of PS3 owners actually watch blu-rays other than the free ones.

Haha, the only reason PS3 outsold Wii is because all the Wiis are being diverted to America where they sold 418,000 in one week against the 174,000 that PS3 managed.

Similar story in Europe, Wii sold 174,000 and PS3 102,000. Everywhere here is out of stock, I bet if they had more Wiis in Europe the sales would be even higher.

the wii is hot but somehow the ps3 and 360 are still raking in plenty compaired to any other year really doing better than ever.

2008 ps3 #1 for sales imo it wont catch the wii total sold that year tho...
