40gb is the smallest size ps3. You can buy 80gb ps3's. What's more, (like me) you can stick any size hard drive in your ps3; such as I, who have a 160gb HDD in my ps3.

Conversely, the Xbox 360 - Little Crap Edition does not include a hard-drive at all. And you are stuck with propiritory Microsoft hard-drives, that are not cheap

If a game requires you to install a part of it on your HDD, then guess what you could do? When you've completed the game...you delete it! It's that simple! Games that require you to install data on your HDD are often non-multiplayer games.

Not only that but 40gb-80gb is alot of room. Which is why sony has allowed some games to forcefully install part of it on your system.

i too have a 160GB hard drive. Cost about 90 bucks but am very well satisfied. Its really stupid for you to diss a 40Gb hard drive when xbox 360 hard drive is 20GB. Some of them dnt even have hard drives.

Not only can the ps3 hard drive be updated, but if you aren't too tech savvy, you can just as easily plug an external drive into one of the usb ports and save stuff that way.

I don't know how someone can defend the 360 all day and bash every piece of news posted for the PS3; this guy should be getting paid by Microsoft. Anyways, this is great news- I remember Resident Evil Outbreak did this with the PS2's 40 Gig HD. The loading time dramatically decreased throughout the game. Its good to see Epic pushing forth their best effort to take full advantage of the PS3.

50Gb optical, 250GB internal, 500Gb external, um, I think my PS3 is pretty right for storage, but thanks for your concern.

Meanwhile Bots brag about all the crap on XBL they can download (in the US maybe, movies, TV, but its only for games right?) but its not much good when your HD only holds 14GB is it? Everytime I download something I have to delete something else first.

Hell download stuff just to look at it once and throw it away. I guess that sounds ok when all you own is a disposable console, just use it and chuck it like a cardboard camera from a gas station.

A lot of PS3 games already do, Genji, Resistance, Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Warhawk, and Ratchet are the ones I have that do. Some are completely optional and some are automatic before even playing the game.

the last posted interview with Mark Rein had him being pretty confident that the game would ship in December 07 (ps3...pc is out this month) in the US...but wasn't as sure about Europe...

the game will be finished this week...but has some licensing tests to go through before printing...but the game will be done very soon...I too can't wait for it...

Improves load times as taking resources off of the harddrive is faster than taking resources off of a Blu-ray. Similar to minimum and full installs on the PC.

VERY cool about being able to install to speed things up. And regardless what SKU you have, 3.5 gbs should hardly scratch the surface. However for 360 users with 14gb of usable space its probably an issue.

Since the hard disc is much faster...steam texture data from it will speed up load times...but there are other reasons why 3.5 gigs of data is put on the harddrive....

Ridge Racer 7 allowed you to do this, and it greatly sped up the times between stages to the order of a good 5sec. Now 5sec may not sound like a lot, but wait to load a race, race, wait to load main screen, prepair for next race, wait for it to load, it took me all of 10 races before I went into the options and installed the game data to the hard drive. Big improvement!

DVD pushes less data at a faster speed.

Blu-ray Pushes more data at a lower speed.

Make sense to you.

And when all is said and done, dvd is faster, but only when the data stored on the outside of the disc is used.

Theres not much in it at all.

Because blu-ray streams at a constant rate, whereas dvd streams at different rates depending, where the data is on a disc.

But the fact that blu-ray holds more data is better imo.

yeah dude shut up...oblivion loaded faster on a PS3 than any other platform, by caching to its HDD just like this (doesn't really explain why it was claimed to still be faster than the PC load times though...not sure, thats just what multiple reviews said)...

this isn't an option to "get it up to speed" with anything else...its just an option quicken things up if you constantly play the game...as ps3 owners will...and 360 owners won't, at least for a while...

your PS3 didn't die...its a problem with FW 2.0 that launched last week...expect 2.01 to be available within the next week...a lot of 60 gig owners are reporting this...and I have seen a few 40 gig too (interestingly I haven't seen one mention of it with a 80 gig though)...

some guys claim that doing a hard reset (press and hold the power button until the ps3 beeps twice...once after 2 seconds, keep holding it, and it will beep again at about 5 seconds...)...this will reset all your settings, and set video output back to composite by default...if you are using an HDMI connection it will still notice it after a few seconds...so you don't have use the composite cable...I didn't check, but I assume this will also default your theme...if it doesn't, make sure you set the theme back to original also...like mentioned above, it could also be screwed up themes...SCE hasn't made an official response yet on this matter, but I would expect them to have some PR spin and a small update to fix this coming soon...

but make sure you do that with no disc in the PS3...some say it worked for them, some say they had to do it a few times...

it hasn't been confirmed yet, but these problems all showed up with the new firmware...I wouldn't panic yet...there were some stability issues in the past with a few firmware updates, and sony took care of them within a few days...check www.us.playstion.com and go to the forum for more information...

Doing a hard reset (when it beeps twice by pressing the power button for five seconds) does NOT reset your theme though. I know because I have to do it everytime I switch between Linux and the XMB. All it does is reset you video settings. I do however believe it either had something to do with a theme you downloaded, or a problem with the new firmware. My Guitar Hero 2 stopped working correctly after the 2.0 update. Whatever you do, if you call Sony customer support, DO NOT mention that you were downloading themes off the internet and then the problem occurred. Sorry about your bad luck. You should mention what theme you got and where from though so you can warn other PS3 users because I was about to look for some myself.

Dude, I sympathize with you. It kind of sucks that the "grace" period when you can return it to the store expired (after 2 weeks, at best buy at least). Well, it doesn't hurt if you can at least talk to someone at the store and see if you can still return it for a brand-new one, provided you still got the receipt. As far as my PS3 60 gig (from the second batch of shipment after the "launch" shipment)is concerned, no problems yet (whew!). I think it's because I HAVEN'T downloaded any themes yet. Now that you've mentioned it, I'll be very careful about them darn things!

PS I don't care if you're buying a PS3 or an Xbox 360 (especially THAT one) but getting a replacement program/extended warranty wouldn't hurt. Hate them or like them, they would save you a lot of headaches. Hell, I was able to replace a $1000 worth of Canon Rebel XT for a brand-new one when the auto-focus of my first failed on me. Just don't abuse it!!

what I find strange is that every PS3 owner in this thread actually love that you can istall the game on the Hard drive but the 360 owners are the one's complaining and the game isn't even on there system for the time beign...
