You Can Now Unban Your Xbox 360 Thanks To Modders

YourEMGN Writes: "Recent estimated have said over 1 million gamers have been effected by Microsoft's 360 bans. Modders have attempted to free users from Microsoft's grip by releasing what is known to us as "iXtreme LT". According to a forum post on Xbox-Scene you can now unban your Xbox 360."

1 - Why hassle with all this stuff?
just everyone go out and get a ps3. then everyone will be happy becuase every online feature the x360 has can be put on the ps3 but not every feature on the ps3 can be put on the x360. moree people getting a ps3 means the quicker ps3 will get the 1 or 2 features x360 has that dont really matter in the first place compared to the many more feature ps3 has over the x360 and most of them are pure gameing related like dedicated servers.

You are missing the point. Modders do not want a PS3 because they would have to buy the games. They mod because they want the software for free.

So you get a second console to rob it of its ID. If for any reason both are online at the same time, they both get banned.

1. If the modder keeps it for themselves, then what is the point of unbanning the banned one.

2. If they return it to the shop, at some point both consoles are online at the same time, then boom!

cause the PS3 is harder to hack, thanks to Blueray, they're not in the @ssjole level of Microsoft, and because it would cost you more to burn a game than to buy a used one.

most of these people mod so they don't have to buy, but I bet if the PS3 was hacked then half of you will try and mod it.

don't spit up cause it'll just fall back down on your face.

It's not bluray that makes it hard. There are PS3 game rips floating around. The only thing bluray will be an issue for pirate is size and the cost for a disc. It's the software that they haven't hacked yet.

Blu Ray has been cracked, same with HD DVD. Blu Ray movies and games have been ripped and are on torrent sites. HOWEVER you can't play them on the PS3 because it hasn't been hacked yet.

Not all PS3 games take up all the space on a Blu Ray disc, with compression most games can fit onto a DVD if you really wanted (that's what PSP rippers did, compressed full games down to less than a gig). For larger files their is always the HDD, if someone wants something for free I doubt it would be much of an issue for them.

I do remember reading about a few PS3 exploits being found but,

A. A few of them were false reports.
B. I don't know if anything came of them.

Maybe the PS3 isn't hacked as much because the PS3 doesn't nickel and dime its owners to death like the 360 does...$50 for a 20gb hard drive (PS3 can use any notebook hard drive, $60 will buy you 320gb)...$100 for a wireless adapter (comes w/ the PS3)...$20 for a rechargable battery pack (ps3 controllers have these built in)...$50 for online (free on PS3)...etc. It's ridiculous, especially given the PS3's current price point.

And to top it off, the 360 is cheaply built, loud, and fails at an unprecedented rate. All of this leads to a certain level of contempt and lack of respect towards Microsoft by 360 owners, however outwardly defensive they may be of their console.

ALL OF THAT SAID...I have no sympathy for pirates. If you don't like it, don't buy it. There's no excuse for theft.

I do have sympathy for people who installed their own hard drives to avoid being ripped off. They didn't steal anything.

I dont think the price is so much of an issue.

You can get a burner for like £70 and a its like £3 a disc.
So its not that big of an investment. You would make your money back after 2 games.

But I would not really fancy downloading a 25gb game at 100kb/s

I am more interested in the consoles being hacked for homebrew and running N64 maybe :)

Well that didnt take too long. Probably wont last but well played fellows. You cant keep a good pirate sunk for long. YARRRRRR! LOOP HOLE AHOY ME MATEYS. Im not banned and to me it matters not either way as I dont use Live.

I love all these "pirates are the scum of the earth" types, when MOST (not all, but most) have downloaded music or movies or programs for free but counter with some weak self justified excuse like "its not the same as games because..." I hear it over and over again. As far as Im concerned a pirate is a pirate no mater what you download because more often than not somewhere it costs money to listen or to play or watch etc whatever it is you've downloaded. So if you're one of the "sparkly good guys" then good for you and keep your self righteous "Im better than you" bullsh1t blabbering to yourself. Nobody cares that you are the polished knight of righteousness prancing in on your grand steed of justice. We filthy terrible pirates couldn't care less about what a perfect shining example to mankind you are amidst the crooked filth of todays decrepid society. Go make a pilgramage to your mountain of salvation and pray for all the scum who have lost their way wont you? We're not listening.

To un-ban you have to buy another 360 that is not banned yet. And when you finally get your old console to be able to play on LIVE, it will most likely get banned again.

13 - Never beat the hackers? So what.
We've heard it all before about how the hackers are going to beat these software companies into the ground but does anyone seriously believe the fight won't continue? If someone broke into your car or house, would you throw your hands up in the air and say enjoy? Hell no (unless you're a pirate and see no problem with giving and taking like that). It's stealing plain and simple. These people are thieves; they know it and brag about it on forums like this. I hope they'll see the irony when someone else steals their car, their cash, their xbox or whatever. The pirates don't want to hear from people who pay for their stuff and the buyers don't want to hear the pirates whine about how the man is sticking it to them. What really irks me is when people post stories telling other people about how they can hack the systems and then they say they don't condone doing it. What a crock.

15 - however
they would just need to make a new account. i figured it would only be a matter of time. now people who modded their 360's because of RRoD, can now play it once again. i have no idea if M$ ever fixed that, but people like to trick out there consoles. i don't mind modding, its not as bad a people say it is, if it was so bad, why are there several tv shows about modding cars and other technology? you don't see ford suing pimp my ride do you? or getting in a tizzy about it.

modders=/=pirates
so please people, stop saying that.

the video game industry is doing fine, hell, it makes more money than Hollywood.

plus the ps3 can play roms on it, so its hacked as well, so stop saying its not hacked, because it is. all current gen is hacked.

Lol ford suing you for 'modding' your car is not the same as modding an xbox. The purpose of modding a car is to make it what you want, the sole purpose of modding an xbox is to play free games. That was a terrible example, you fail.

Is this a response to me? I'm going to assume it is...Adding fans, adding hard drives and fans is not bad. Don't reasonably stand their and pretend like what we're talking about is that stuff. Were talking about for games, that and that alone. If your dumb enough to open the box, you deserve what you get.

Nice copy and paste job from the forums, jack@sses. Don't even possess the understanding to translate the post into your own content.

Anyway, possible doesn't equate practical in this case. It's just a proof-of-concept speculation. It would be interesting to see if this could evolve, though.

On Orig Topic: If someone can pay 50 bucks every year for Xbox live(and can even pay for a new console after getting banned) then choose and buy one or two games every year carefully and be happy with them.

26 - Hold that thought
If this is true and not a lie how long do you think it will take Microsoft to figure it out and ban them again. It won't take long, and eventually will force microsoft to abandon the 360 in favor of a format that is harder to pirate, causing most people to be pissed, it will happen, when game developers begin to exsclude your console from there line up because the actually want to sell the game instead of have people steal it. Boardlands, is one of those games, no copies pirated on the ps3 because its never been hacked. What's the chances that the next boarderlands is a PS3 Exclusive, pretty damn good. Modding the xbox is simple and easy and I know that is why most bought it to begin with, but you will only cause microsoft to bail out on the 360 faster then they were planning to.

28 - SURELY WRONG MOVE FOR MICROSOFT
sony's on thr rise i would expected this to be last thing for microsoft to do.so if they ban a console at say in uk that costs between £150 and £200 and you send your console off to get it remodded costing around 30-50 to have done surely people stop think well lets get a ps3 from £230 go online for free sure games be full price but saved buying 360 everytime microsft does a update.

or do like i used to b4 ps3 buy few orignals for online rest copys offline. yes microsft are greedy too competitive

Unbanning Xbox 360 From Live - The Facts
>> I see lots of sites posting today about a way to unban Xbox 360 from LIVE often linking to a thread made on our forums here.

This method has been known for a long time (since the King Kong Exploit days) and does indeed 'work'. Basically you swap the Keyvault (or 'KV' in short, it stores stuff like console certificates, per-box private keys, DVD key, etc) inside the NAND with the KV from an unbanned console. While technically very different you could somewhat compare it to swapping eeprom data during the Xbox1 days.

However there's a (really) big 'IF' (besides the required tech knowledge) ... you need the (unique) CPU key of your banned console - without it you can't correctly write (or encrypt if you want) the new KV data in the NAND bin of your banned console.
Now you wonder how to get the CPU-key ... well by running XeLL of course!
To run XeLL u need to perform the JTAG hack (or the King Kong exploit, but that's even more outdated) ... and if you got banned the last few weeks it means you updated to the latest dashboard/kernel (else you can't get on LIVE).
And that's the problem... Microsoft patched the JTAG hack since kernel 849x (July 2009) ... so no way to boot up XeLL (= no realistic way for you to get the CPU-key atm) and thus no way to swap the KV data in your NAND image.
And then there's also added KV protection (hashing) on newer motherboards (Falcon+ ? and kernel 1888 won't boot on those), but if you can't even get your CPU-key it doesn't matter much to do deeper into this problem.
The only way it would work is if you retrieved the CPU-key of your old banned 360 before you updated to anything over 849x. If you did that you probably know about all of this and I'm not telling you anything new ;)
Downgrading kernel is not an option either, older kernels won't boot as both kernel and CB fuses were burned during the various updates MS performed, and you can't bypass that without ... your CPU-key.

Hope that explains the situation a bit (tried to make it not 'too' technical)
On a side-note, it would probably be pretty easy for MS to detect KV-swaps (like HW-mismatches etc).
Side-note2: in case it wasn't obvious yet those "unban isos" are fake and iXtreme LT won't unban you (it will instead try to avoid new bans)."
