Config file revealed dedicated servers Modern Warfare 2?

Dutch gamewebsite GameCloud wrote: A curious gamer explored a config file in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 directory. In this file there might be the option to use dedicated servers. Will Infinity Ward support these servers within a short period of time?

I'm sure they are just testing the cold cold waters of the PC gaming community to see if no dedicated servers would float. After sinking, I am sure they will add dedicated servers soon.

That's what I was thinking.

It's probably just an old config file from MW which they changed for MW2

8 - Unfortunately
It is most likely that it is simply left over code from CoD4 that was not stripped out. This happens fairly often in the industry.

10 - My guess on this?
If they do plan to include dedicated servers later down the line, it's probably not because they want to please their PC fans, but more to counter the BF Bad Company 2's potential to "steal" their PC gamer market.

Just a crazy imaginative theory.

I hope they keep the P2P network its the only way to play online at my school it. Thats all it blocks connecting to game servers. You can do the rest on the internet watch porn, violents and other stupid stuff but online gaming no they need to ban that.

no, the engine technically supports "servers" but only in listen form. It's already using them - its just that they are hooked into the game itself. You will notice the same thing in source engine games for example, when even single player mods have server-like config parameters. Generally for a dedicated server to exist all that has to be done is the libraries need to be used in the correct way by the programming team - then an update system and some other specifics need to be employed.
