IW adding more presence servers to Modern Warfare 2 on Playstation 3

Examiner writes : "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 apparently sold much better on the Playstation 3 than anticipated. The high demand for online multiplayer caused an overload to the "presence servers" on the Playstation Network, which tells your friends what you are currently doing on the Playstation 3.

Fortunately, Robert Bowling, the Creative Strategist of Infinity Ward, is saying (via his personal Twitter account) that more of these presence servers will be added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. No time table has been set."

well there are 2.6m on LIVE
not everyone has jumped on to playing online .
many people would be playing the SP for the first few days

so i am expecting like 4m on x60 and 3m on PS3 1st day and around 5-6m on x360 at the end of the week vs 5-6m on ps3 concurrently

Clearly both 360 and PS3 version hit 2 million users online...

Did IW underestimate the sales for PS3, yes they obviously did. I don't see overloading server traffic for Live users only PSN users, so this means they understimated PS3 sales for MW2. In all honesty, after Microsoft made exclusive ad deals with IW i also thougt PS3 version would sell much less.

Goes to show that PSN community is growing rapidly.

Seems the game sold well on both consoles. I expect the 360 version to lead with 2-3 million though. Still, great sales for the PS3 version ESPECIALLY when ONLY the 360 version was advertised.

They misunderstood ps3 owner's perception.
X360 had l4d in november . PS3 has MW2 as the only Fps this fall so definitely lot of ps3 owners would be picking up the PS3 version of MW2.
also i expect MW2 to push more ps3s than x360 since the ps3 price cut is doing wonders for SONY

I know why. Since MS and Activision advertised only on 360 they thought PS3 wouldn't sell much copies. They messed up putting PS3 owners on a short end of a stick. Lowest common denominator.

COD4's sales was over 8 million on the 360 compared to about 3-4 million on the PS3.

I think those numbers for MW2 could be really close to both consoles now, like on par with each other, with the 360 having the edge of about 1-2 million.

my god the action is so intense,the mp is HUUUUUGE,the gfx are great,not uncharted 2 or kz2 level,but still great and runz at blazing 60fps

they just sold 1.2 million ps3,s in three weeks how long ago,its been the top selling console in the eu,japan and the us,its 4 million behind the 360 sales.if they checked with ea to see that fifa 10 is the biggest selling game on ps3 they might of made a different decision.anyways the best i can get out of it since the last patch is a freeze up when it starts what patch have they for that.thank f@ck for mag best connection and fps out there for online thats what i call a shooter,cod6 is laughable at the moment.even 360 owners are getting problems and they beta tested the thing.

A while ago Activison threatened to pull support on the PS3. Well by the numbers that would have beeen the biggest mistake Activision would have made with the release of the new Call of Duty.

well i for one happen to have alot of the exclusives for the ps3: uncharted 1&2, killzone, mgs4, heavenly sword, warhawk, resistance 2, infamous, ninja gaiden sigma, and a few psn games along with big multiplats: call of duty mw2, fallout 3, oblivion, bioshock, burnout, grand theft auto, rock band 1&2, and prototype.

i do believe it is sad though....

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe its not hype. The game really is that good. THe story is awesome... very immersive.. like a summer blockbuster action film from don simpson or jerry bruckheimer.

Killzones story was just corny as hell.. i beat that game.. and that game felt like it was meant for 12 year olds. I actually own it... mostly cause i thought i was gonna get on multiplayer with my friends, but they stopped playing so i stopped playing.

This game however just has some very immersive elements... very good presentation.. a lot of attention to detail... and it actually looks better then killzone 2 and runs at a higher fps

ADVERTISING!!! How many commercials and magazine adds did you see for MW2 compared to those exclusives??? Exactly! I probably saw more MW2 ads than ALL of those exclusives combined. If you were a NEW PS3 owner, and not a hardcore gamer, you probably wouldn't know about those games until someone that already owned a PS3 told you how good they are. The game stores usually only really push the "newest, hottest" games. Plus, COD has HUGE brand recognition. Most of those exclusives, aside from MG4, are new or more obscure IP's.
