Microsoft Disowns Manager For Suggesting A Mac OS Inspired Windows 7

Gizmodo: "Poor Microsoft Partner Group Manager Simon Aldous. His Microsoft bretheren is calling him uninformed and practically disowning him for the quotes he threw out earlier about Windows 7 basing its UI on the Mac OS.

A post on the Windows Blog entitled " How we really designed the look and feel of Windows 7" renounces Simon's quotes with a curt, yet harsh line:"

If you look at some of the features of osx(mac) and then look at some of the features of windows 7, there's no denying some resemblances. However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, its just how tech goes. Companies borrow from each other all of the time, and to think your favorite company doesn't do so it ridic, whether its m$, sony, or apple.

@below...i was referring to more of the general theme here, not just what the rep said.

1.1 - You're missing the point.
If left alone this would have enforced the rep that MS can't come up with an original idea. That no matter how much they want to be portrayed as an industry leader they have to see what the other guy is doing before that do anything, which tends to be what the other guy is doing.

Isn't that how 90% of microsoft's business works though? Imitate other successful products and then claim you created it and its the best thing since sliced bread

I guess those Mac vs. PC commercials really got to them...lol! I don't care, an OS is an OS. As long as I can gert online it doesn't matter to me. All I really use a computer for is to waste time anyway.

1.5 - I love my PC.
I run Windows 7 64bit. I got in the beta and have been using 7 since.. a few months ago. But I also love my mac. My PC is for pure gaming. Mac good for everything.

MS just doesn't want to face the facts that their interface is inferior.

My family just got the new iMac with max specs, and it is not nearly as powerful as some of the other PCs we own. You cant even run SolidWorks or other engineering programs properly on it

LOL, they sure fork over large amounts of cash for something a PC can do much cheaper

*EDIT* @ below:
True, they're not very upgradeable. Everything is proprietary and that means expensive (look at 360 HDDs/wireless for instance)

Nope, besides games Macs are worse than PCs in compatible application support, are tremendously overpriced, and lack customisation and upgrade ability. Hell, OS X can't even playback blu-ray.

and yet, the mac will not run standard professional software such as this?
http://www.amibroker.com/
http://wl4.wealth-lab.com/c...

I know what you will say.... you can run windows on a mac, right?

But what would be the point of paying extra money to get a mac just to dual boot windows7 (more money) and be able to run the specialised software I need to do my work?

Seems so silly for a 'superior' machine, right?
----------------------------- --------------------
edit:

So ... uh...
you are advocating spending MORE money on a mac, get LESS hardware for the money, then pay additional money for a dual boot windows license, just so i can run a PC programme?

Why not just get a PC?
That's exactly what smart consumers are doing?

Dual boot is exactly right. And as far as what i do in design id much rather my version of cs4. so yeah to be able to operate both operating systems is nice and a mac at least the power mac g5 which i use is very upgradeable.

You don't get it, huh?

you have no idea how all those programmes are different do you?
I have no use for that software you mention.

The software I want has a coding community and experience behind it.
It has evolved specifically for a certain purpose and is not available for mac, except as dual boot, which defeats the purpose of geting a mac.

Just go and play garage band.
I hear it's very user friendly.
Leave me alone with you mac marketing.

Fact is, Macs are overpriced, underfeatured and incompatible.
If you're honest, you'd agree.

linux is worse than both for gaming and video and photo editing, it's a niche thing for people too poor to buy windows or mac, or for servers, have fun with that

4.2 - @dchalfont, there is plenty of value in using Linux...
matter of fact, Linux isn't just for "servers" everything from Cable set top boxes Tivo, roku player, cell phones, Asus/WD/Popcorn hour media players.
matter of fact, there is probably something that you use every day that uses Linux.

And it makes for a darn good Desktop OS. I have been using it for 10 years without issue. never had a problem with photo and video editing.

As for gaming I have to agree, but, my computer is not a toy, If I want to play a game I will use one of my PS3's.

@verb3k, I was looking over your comments, man! you are a little too militant when it comes to Linux. to each his own, man. As long as the decision is an informed one and not some "I read some forum posts that Linux sucks" lame @ss opinion.

Well it was Steve Jobs who quoted Picasso saying "Good artists copy great artists steal"

@madpuppy yep totally agree haha. After the quote he made from Picasso he said that Apple have always been shameless about stealing great ideas.

I downloaded Windows7 x86 ultimate (retail version supposedly) from mininova but I'm not sure if I should install it because I do not know how it'll work. On the comment section everybody was saying that it works perfectly but I do not trust them. Most of them are probably a bunch of morons that don't even know what are they talking about anyway considering that this is the internet. I have the newest activator and serial but what if it doesn't work? Then I'll need to install Vista again and waste even more time...

why can't msoft just admit they copied features from mac and linux because copying isn't a bad thing as long as you at least thank the company you got ideas from (when i mean copy i don't make exaxct copies im just talking about taskbar and even the instant search that was in vista)

@dchalfont

i have used linux on my laptops for years (ubuntu), its free easy to use, stable and alot more secure than windows....it has absolutely nothing to do with my financial situation, but its interesting to note you have labelled me as a pauper, simply because of my choice of OS??

Having just seen Windows 7 running side by side with a MAC, i have to say at least from the taskbar point of view, you cant deny MS have mirrored the style/format. Then again plagerism is supposed to be the greatest form of flattery?

9 - Not a bad thing..
If anything it shows how beneficial competition and Apple's small but particular market are to the industry as a whole..

I love Win7, I love osX.. I also enjoy Ubuntu for what it is..

I partly love Win7 so much because of how so much of osX UI sensibility has crept in during both during vista and 7, making it a lot more comfortable to people who prefer, and use osX most of the time.

Also, im totally in disagreement with the "Macs are overpriced and incompatible" folk, they're very compatible *with Mac software*. We have a lot of exclusive and/or superior stuff too. Its just what you want and need. There isn't a right machine for everyone, and different people find value in different places. :)

There's enough space in the market for 3+ major operating systems, just like there's always been, and despite popularity of any of them, each will have advantages over the others. Some of those will be deal breakers for some people.
