1. Sony wouldn't quit, and they definitely wouldn't announce it. They would continue producing PS3s, they'd just discontinue investing in things outside of cutting costs. You'd just see a slow decline in games being developed for it by their studios. That's if they went that way at all.

2. They'd never kill the PS brand. They might change their philosophy to something more like nintendo's with a focus on making profits consistently through the lifetime of the product rather than a heavy initial investment with payoffs later, but it won't die for a good long time.

3. Why on earth would M$ hike the price of XBL if they got more customers? that is just stupid. They'd be able to cut the cost per customer by a huge amount, so they'd make more money anyway.

4. There would be plenty of competition. Just because there's no inter-console competition, third party developers would still be having inter-developer competition because their still fighting for your dollar.

They would then turn their sights on the rest of the world releasing their anger and aggression for not being able to play great games. If Sony quit, we'd be left with an imagination-less company that tries its hardest to squeeze money out of its customers (Microsoft), or a company with too much imagination that is trying harder to appease Grandma than the hardcore gamer (Nintendo).

Anyone who thinks it would be good for Sony to quit the gaming industry is truly retarded, in every sense of the word. Your trollish delusions may have you hating the PS3, but gaming wouldn't be what it is today without Sony. I couldn't imagine half of the games I've loved over the past 15 years to have come about in a SEGA/Nintendo dominated environment. They're not afraid of new ideas, and it absolutely shows in the games you can only find on their platforms.

Can you imagine the fees and consumer abuse you'd be enduring under a Microsoft dominated console market? Let's be real about it, Nintendo sure as hell isn't making games for us anymore. It would be 360 or bust for console gamers until someone else filled the void, which could take several years if it even happened at all. $100 XBL Gold would probably be rolled out within the hour of Sony calling it quits.

I see Sony as Nintendo. Hear me out, the NES and PS1 were very popular, everyone loved gaming on them systems. Then the SNES and PS2, great games and great support from first and third party devs and publishers. Then with the Nintendo 64, some developers did not want to work with cartridges as the cd format was much cheaper and allowed more space to fit more content, which lead to Square working on the PS1. However, the games on the Nintendo 64 were great and revolutionary at its time with Super Mario 64, Legend of Zelda OoT (I find over-rated IMO), Goldeneye and Perfect Dark setting the bar for FPS games on consoles, the wrestling games. With the TREY, the blu-ray format, allows developers to fit more content on disc (MGS 4) but not everyone is utilizing it (third party devs except for Kojima). However Sony's first party devs have produced good games for everyone to enjoy. I am not to sure about the PS4, we wait and see (I hope Kutaragi is the man behind it).

P.S. Sixth Axis is a horrible site for news, very slow, however not much fanboyism exists on tht site which is good i guess lol.

Playstation Network has grown since its first inception on PS3 and thats thanks to Xbox Live being so much better than it and people complaining and Sony continually adding new features to get it up to par

It still lacks a cross chat aka party chat feature and a few other options but if Microsoft Xbox live wasn't around I'm sure we'd still have Nintendo Wii style Online gaming

I have been with Sony from the beginning.

I so badly wanted the ps3 when it first came out but could not afford it. Personally i never owned nor wanted an xbot. I have recently finally invested in to Sony and am so glad to finally catch up on all the great content ive missed these last couple of years.
