I hate these supposed 'leaks'
Sometimes they let you down.. other times.. a firmware update comes and its NOTHING like what the 'leak' said it'd be lol

Sometimes I wish Sony would just deny these lame rumors.. change the release date by one day and be done with it.

lol what the point in denying rumours when they are usually lying anyway, they even skit at themselves in the new ads lol.

Anyway, i was hoping for custom Avatars and Cross-game Chat.

I think they are hard at work for the in-game chat, not so much on Avatars since they were meant to come with last FW and its been ages so far, we have the same OOLLLDDD Avatars.

the arabic gamers are way more then any others but why didn't they pot arabic language !! this is strange .. I know lots of arabic people who wants from SONY to translate the menu to their language but SONY doesn't reponse to them ..

yeah it is annoying that i can't write polish letters like ćśźó etc. But from 2008 we have our own SCE Poland like SCEJ or SCEG

Would 3.10 be one of the big updates? Like maybe a surprise? This update will tell if Reckless was right, or not. I have two theories on why he deleted his post. 1. X Game chat is coming in this update, or 2. He was wrong, but it's coming in a different update, or 3.(I know I said two, but yeah) Sony didn't anyone outside of the company to know that they were working on it.

I for one hope that Reckless Abandon deleted his post because cross chat will be included in the next update but realised what mega news he just let out so deleted his post straight after. I'm confident it will be included in next update,which fingers crossed, will be next week.

Actually I was hoping the next update would fix an issue that is a legitamate consern for the older 20gig and 60gig users. In firmware 3.00 (the firmware that was delivered with the Slim line PS3) there was a trigger that attempted to increase the loading times of blu-ray media by increasing laser output.

The 80gig systems and the newer Slim PS3's have new laser structure that can handle the enhanced output. However, the older 20 and 60gig units can not and it will often cause a burn out of the lense leading to the inability to play Blu-Ray games and movies, sometimes CD and DVD content as well.

This was rumored to be an oversight on Sony's part in fact a lawsuit was even started against them.

In fact the whole issue is inconclusive though if you do enough digging online you begin to see its more than just an uncommon problem with the older 20gig and 60gig models. My Blu-Ray drive was hit by this a bit ago (its an older 60gig) system and a new drive is required, though if the issue IS with the firmware then the new drive I place in there shares the same high risk (most stand alone Blu-Ray drives are refurbished or taken straight from other PS3's).

Sony is tight lipped on the matter, however a recent artical said that the lawsuit in progress has forced them to make a statment on the issue in the upcoming weeks.

Please not I know some 60 and 20gig units are at the moment unaffected, and this issue is not exsistant in the newer 80gig and Slim line PS3's, but I think some support should be shown for us early adopters and I personaly just would like the issue fixed, regardless of cause.

Do you have any evidence to back up what you're claiming? Neither Sony or Microsoft for that matter would ever release an update that attempts to push the hardware beyond it's original specs, as it would guarantee some consoles would break. It's just a coincidence that your Blu-ray drive broke when firmware 3.0 came out.

My PS3's Blu-ray drive died back in August 2008 when playing MGS4, so should I be blaming MGS4 for breaking my drive? You should be blaming Sony for the broken drive, but it has nothing to do with firmware updates.

It's sort of like the NXE and other dashboard updates "causing" the RROD for Xbox owners. It's more than likely that it was a coincidence, and their console simply broke at that time due to previous manufacturing defects.

You're right I have no evidence other than what my research online has provided.

What 3.00 did was increase the load time of Blu-Ray for the Slim PS3. This was well covered by the media, but there is possibility with the older model PS3's that it advertly effected the Blu-Ray drive leading to an increased chance of failure.

In addition, my PS3's Blu-Ray drive didn't fail when 3.00 came out, as the would have just led it to being a bad firmware install on my part. It failed a good few weeks after 3.01 which led to my digging.

I fully believe that the possibility that my Blu-Ray drive went as a result of just normal use, I'm just wondering IF there was a problem in the firmware, it would be addressed.
