Activision Responsible For Modern Warfare 2 Delay, Not Steam

There is anger from the mainstream gaming media being directed towards Valve and Steam for the apparent delay in unlocking Modern Warfare 2 purchases on Steam. Clarification is necessary, as Steam is merely a platform that publishers like Activision can use to publish their games and have some protection from piracy. It is up to the publisher to decide when the game is released.

Activision have already pissed off a lot of online distributors by going Steam only.

Had they allowed Steam to release on schedule, they'd have pissed off a lot of retailers too.

Still, retail deserves to die, there's so many facking middlemen that deserved to be excised.

I saw this coming ever since I heard of the problem. Activision makes more off retail PC sales because they pay no royalties to anyone. However when bought through steam, they have to pay some to Valve. IT's just business.

Dirty business anyways. Stockholders are happy, but as usual: it usually screws the gamers out of a good experience.

Valve will just take the same cut as retail take (possibly less).

Compare the disk replication overheads to the nothings of digital distribution.

Activision want their game on the NPD charts and they don't want to piss off retail. That's why it's delayed.
