1 - "...focusing on guaranteed hits going forward in this struggling economy. "
There goes innovation flying out the door. Just as EA was starting to look up (content wise, at least) as well... A very big shame indeed.

EA was doing great (mirror's edge, BC, Dead Space). Hopefully they'll continue pushing new IPs. It's sad that the economy is keeping developers back, but at least EA tried.

Well here's hoping the next Need for Speed by Criterion and BFBC2 sells well.
It's a strange day indeed when people are rooting for EA and Activision is the new evil.

1.4 - Guess they saw Modern Warfare 2.

Agreed, if Dead Space 2 gets canned i'll be so pissed.
One of the best games of last year imo and so much potential to become an amazing series!

Too bad for the 1500 ex-employees. Hope they land another job soon.
Game project-wise, it could actually be a blessing in the long run. Focusing on games with higher probability of success doesn't sound all that bad, that is, if you neglect the current situation. Oh well, now they're gonna need us more than ever, which is a good opportunity for us.

Hopefully Dead Space will still see a true sequel, even after Extraction's poor sales.

Goodbye Mirror's Edge 2, we hardly knew ye.
Dead Space 2 will surely come out with a much larger marketing campaign.

11 - Are they hurting THAT bad?
I find it a little hard to believe that they're financially struggling.
I mean, I know they've absorbed some losses, I know Brutal Legend didn't sell as well as they hoped, despite a great marketing campaign (pairing Riggs with Dethklok for that short was genius), and Dead Space Extraction was DOA on the Wii (Looks great, but Wii owners don't usually open their wallets for anything that's not Mario or Zelda).
This kinda sucks to hear too, considering EA was finally pulling their head out of their ass and releasing some great looking original games. Hell, Dead Space was about as close to an "Event Horizon"-type game as we were ever gonna get.
But now, EA's tightening their wallets, and that means anything that isn't EA Sports or SIMS is gonna get the boot.
Fun while it lasted, I guess.

13 - from kotaku.com
Criterion, the studio behind Burnout, are at work on a "revolutionary take" on the Need For Speed franchise. When's it out? Well, according to EA's Frank Gibeau, it'll be out next year.
OHHHH HELL YELL!!!
