PSN is offline tomorrow

The PlayStation Network will go offline for scheduled maintenance tomorrow morning, Sony's noted.

The PS3 online service will be unavailable from 8:00am GMT until 11:00am GMT (though that's an "estimate" finish time), a community man notes on the official PlayStation forums.

"During this time, you may be unable to sign in to the PlayStation Network. We expect that users will be affected for only 15 minutes during this period," the Sony man says.

4 - Is this 8-11am for all Time Zones?
Or is it universal taking place at the GMT time? If its universally done at the same exact time, this means West Coast is from 12am-3am, East Coast is 3-6am if I'm not mistaken.
Being from West Coast and going to get the game at midnight launch, I find the time they chose to do it rather amusing. That is of course unless it is 8am-11am for all timezones.

I thought the whole 8-11 is more like the 15 mins could occur at any time during this period...Kinda like when Cable guy says he'll be there between 12-4pm.

Regardless, 15 mins is basically 1 playthrough of SpecOps in splitscreen w my friend who's coming over...no biggie.

Can you get Einstein on the phone and ask how to take down an entire network but only make it effect certain people at certain times?

But to answer your question:
PSN does not have a network per timezone, otherwise you'd only be able to play against people in your timezone. I'm sure there are sections of the network they can update and take down while other parts are left up, but I doubt it's timezone specific.

Someone who knows more is free to correct me and make a smart ass remark about my answer.

In hindsight, that was quite a dumb@ss question on my part. Can't believe I actually didn't think that through. But then there are people that have left comments here who didn't think the whole GMT thing through either (unless of course they are all from the UK). East Coast gamers won't be affected at all by this then, as it'll be 3am-6am, unless of course midnight buyers plan to stay up all night. Cheers Pill, you actually gave me a good chuckle at myself...

Anyway that happen one time in XBL's history because of a overload of new accounts (something PSN wouldn't know anything about), and I've had XBL since almost and have not had ANY problems at all. I play online with a group of 8 friends almost on a daily basis and we ALL have both systems and we ALWAYS buy multiplats for the 360 because of XBL because we CAN ACTUALLY speak to each other now isn't something

You know seriously for a bunch of *gamers* you guys are very well misinformed! First @19: PSN conducts maintence EVERY tuesday at the same time, although sometimes the network is down the whole time. Major games release TUESDAYS, therefore COD4 was released on a Tuesday in 2007... Second @ 19.1: COD4 runs on the new IW2.0 servers using P2P... Sony has nothing to do with hosting/servers for this game. If anyone has to update the servers for the large influx of players its goin to be IW, and I would imagine they are prepared for 10+ million in the first 48hours.

yes and no. The PSN will be down for users for about 15mins, and the PS Store will be down the whole time. The only thing people might have trouble with is accessing DOWNLOADED games, or BETAs.. As those games need to pass the authentication servers and they are USUALLY down through out the entire process

Yeah good job Sony, make it happen right when the most anticipated multi-platform game this year is released.

I'm going to be so mad because I can't even go to the midnight launch so I'll have to get it in the morning and if I can't sign in that means I wont even be able to play the single player because I wont collect the trophies and I won't be able to play split-screen because no one will be home-- ARGH!

Oh really? Ok I hope so. I remember getting a trophy in Burnout once but it never registered because I was offline. Maybe I have a bad memory I dont know.

Can anyone confirm playing offline unlocks trophies until you sign back on?

Not with this game, but in general yes. When you click the trophy icon and it synchs with the server is when data is transferred to and from your console.

yeh u can get trophies offline. when you next sign in it will 'sync trohpies with server'

u can even do this manually (maybe u have too i'm not sure)

The only thing you need online for is to sync up the trophies so people online can see what trophies you have. You don't need to do that if you don't want people to see what you have.

All Sony 1st party titles. Im sensing that the two maintenace days this week is setting up background work for a major firmware update next Tuesday. Isnt next Tuesday the day Microsoft release their Facebook/Twitter update??!!. Im guessing Sony will counter-act with their own firmware 3.10 with cross game chat?

Nice, I'll be at school, no biggie.

Won't be getting MW2 'till december anyways, decided to get an extra Dualshock 3 instead of MW2 for november. This will also give me time look at some reviews to see if the game is really worth a buy. (Then there's always Brütal Legend if MW2 turns out bad)

My PS3 is too occupied with Uncharted 2 atm anyways. :P

as long as they sort out the problems me and my friends are having.I lost my 2nd evening of play(Borderlands)due to friends list anomaly.It's better than 2 weeks at xmas,and on the whole(for those who don't own both)I've had less connection issues with PSN than Live by far.On Live Crackdown and Gears lost co op connections frequently,this rarely happens on PSN.Headsets are better on Live but in general I've found games run better on PSN,player counts are superior too.Cross Game chat is missing(not needed for me)and there's no unified party system although games like Killzone/Uncharted have them built in.

I still can't sign into PlayStation Network. I can sign into my account information just fine, but when I try to log in on playtation.com it has an error.

Update: I also seem to be able to log into my PSP and PS3 as well, but I still cannot log onto Playstation.com. it keeps saying "There's an error trying to authenticate you. Please try again."
