Activision 'Drumming' Up New Hero Game

Guitar Hero is the third highest selling franchise of all time, right behind Mario, and Madden, both of which have become house hold names. The massive sales and immediate popularity after it's original release back in 2005 have sparked numerous music-based "Hero" games with the hopes of having similar success. DJ Hero and Band Hero both released this fall, but it looks like Activision is planning yet another "Hero" title already.

Okay I seriously think this image is very much called for...Look I'm all for music games, but at least space them out a bit more and look more into the franchises you have already started. Guitar Hero World Tour was good and I hear Guitar Hero 5 ups the anty, DJ Hero is cool for those who want it, but Band Hero started to go a little south and Drum hero. Well I think that's just further south, it does make me curious though if Activision will take all the instruments that can compose a band (whether rock, jazz, or whatnot) and make it into a "Hero" title.

I'm sorry, but because of all this it makes me kind of scared to try and buy one of the Guitar Hero games. Not knowing whether or not my DLC will be available for latter titles, or if their shall be any at all.

Admittedly, drums are the one type of plastic instrument where you actually learn a bit about how the real instrument is played, but really, just drums, Activision? Really?

I'd like to see a fretless instrument with a ribbon controller, and that would open up a huge number of new gameplay options, all of which would actually teach you a bit about how to play a real instrument (Orch Hero!), and it might breathe a little new life into this stale genre, too. And make no mistake -- there's plenty of "classical" music that's fiendishly difficult to play.

I'm going to have to agree. It's basically the same thing as Rockband or GH: World Tour, but just the drums. Why not make it a PSN downloadable that can use GH's DLC as well.

Being a huge drum fan my interest has been piqued. I have yet to play one of these so called music/rythem games because well I don't have interest in the music selection for the most part. That and also I have no desire to play the Guitar. If this is done right (badassed DnB in the tracklisting) along with having interesting mechanics I think this could possible be interesting and finally relevant to my interest. But knowing ActiBlizzard the chances of them using niche music as a big sell for their "Hero" brand is unlikely.
