Boy your really trying to make your message stick? Maybe it's time to give up on your mission, you will not persuade me. I stand firm on my beliefs and in a time in this world where their ARE terrorists who hijack planes, bomb subways etc etc... This makes this level NOT OK, this is way to real and WAY to violent for a video game. Do not give me excuses like GTA, punching a guy on a street corner or shooting him with a gun is not the same as this. Do not bring up movies, watching a documentary or a movie that portrays this is also not the same. I like violence, I laugh at beating people up in GTA, I even laugh when they go flying when I shoot at them with a rocket launcher. It's not realistic to me, it's not real life. Getting on an elevator and walking through an airport and shooting everything I see in sight is despicable. It's not going to be any fun to do it, it's not going to be enjoyable one bit. Is that what this world has come to these days? Reenacting real world actions in video games? What is the other "controversial" level do you strap a bomb to yourself and bomb a subway? Hijack a plane and fly it into a building? Oh haha that's so hilarious and just totally cool because "Hey it's not real"
It may not be "real" to you but their are real world counterparts and victims everyday for scenarios like this, that and that alone is why this shouldn't be something thrown into a video game.

I am glad Infinity Ward did this, we need more developers to push the envelope. Now I wonder what Rockstar will do to top it, or even better; Maybe seeing this Peter Molyn... will actually try to keep all the promises he flopped on from his last two Fable games. Think about all the positives this may do for the gaming industry.

Who knows maybe Kojima will release a game with a peaceful agenda that has no violence in it, maybe Ubisoft will see how much "violence" bothers gamers and make the next Assassin's Creed with the option of going through the game without killing someone.

Maybe all of this will happen, or maybe non of it. All I know is, if this bothers you; Might as well get out of the FPS and "violent" video-game genre because everyone is going to want to top it.

2 - IT's like GTA IV times
They need attention in order to sell it to the teenagers! (yeah yeeah 18). I pre-ordered it, so I will play it on my PS3, but man... they are desperate to put this in a game. They need AGAIN ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!

My thoughts were, why is this game so hyped? and why will it sell? Just because it makes you feel a SOLDIER! no great graphics, just gameplay! be a soldier or an agent and that will sell in a game!

I am a huge COD series fan. Have every one, but the new Battlefield Bad company 2 is looking freekin sweet! I will be picking them both up but I think once BBC2 comes out I will probably not be playing MW2 a whole lot.

It's part of the f*cking game.

Makarov is a terrorist that causes mess.

When you get the game you will understand why this civilian massacre was caused.

Grow some nuts and lay off the estrogen.

Do you think any kind of war is only Soldier killing?

How many babies were slaughtered in Americas campaign in Iraq?

Would your rather bomb babies?

You guys cry and preach about how games should be next gen...and you can't accept that MW2 is making war more believable.

I'm going to pick out one word from your whole post "war"

Walking into an airport and shooting every civilian in site is not war, it's terrorism. War is fought on battlefields and city streets. When was the last time ANY COUNTRY/STATE/CONTINENT anybody, when has ANY GOVERNMENT said hey "Fuc* it let's go shoot every civilian at this airport just because"

Exactly, the answer is none. This isn't war, now if this was a video and it was like "hey these dudes shot up this airport" I'd be like "Ok cool, fuc*ers I wanna kill them" No no no IW says "Hey walk through this airport and shoot all the civilians as a terrorist, so you know how it feels" OoOo fantastic idea. Being a terrorist in a game now is now the new trend? really?? I'm not disgusted by the realism of the act, I'm disgusted by the fact they give you a gun and say "Unload on em" this should have been a VIDEO. Their is no reason for anybody to be playing this. Aren't you supposed to be a soldier and a good guy?

Its not about too much violence or realism, it is the fact they encourage the player to play in that role in this realistic of a game.

Next maybe they will have a game where you play as a good cop going after a serial rapist. But first you have to play as the rapist to get a feel for the other side of crime, maybe even rape a few kids along the way. Would anyone here be ok with that? Would you denounce it or say, oh its just a game.

I really don't have a huge problem with this. Is it offensive to some, absolutely, but so are thousands of things, content is subjective to whoever is receiving the message. I think what continues to be the problem is the fact that as "games" continue to advance and become more realistic, that they are called games and not simulators. I think the word game saves a developer like IW from any real criticism because they can say its just a game, but the truth is, for this moment anyway that it really is a terrorist simulator to an extant. Again I don't have any real objections but it does sit somewhat awkward.

I should maybe follow it up with this as well. We seem to live in a society where our youth has a sense of entitlement and also a lack of consequence foresight.

I am 27 and if you look at the games we played at kids, nothing could really relate to real world experience, but as thing become more realistic, when kids are not fully matured yes this could be a problem. I understand their is a rating, kids will play it, but in time like this, its even more important for parents to play an active role in their children's lives. Kids will get there hands on this, so instead be proactive, put it in context and take the time to educate instead of blaming a developer for making what is and entertaining and possibly troubling product in some respects.

It does come down to as an adult if you don't like it don't play, you are an adult and can make that choice. If you are a parent and you see this, your kids will play it one way or another so use the opportunity to educate.

What else bother me by the fact that this being marketed as a game is the fact that, a hack for gta to simulate sex for GTA was pulled off the shelves, but walmart has an exclusive ad to say the only way to play this game is on xbox 360, the same company that does not let parental advisory cd's to be sold in its store. Yet a game that you basically become a terrorist in certain instances is being promoted via commercials. I will play it, but it is bothersome from a contradictory standpoint.

10 - Good Job IW
Now next time some loser kid shoots up his school they will again blame video games, but now they will have this sick crap to hold up as evidence. And with the liberal gov. we now have in the United States I can easily see us becoming like Australia with every game that has the slightest bit of adult violence banned from the country.
This level was totally unneeded and you could have got the same message of the horror of the violence by making the player one of the civilians trying to survive with people dying around him rather than letting the player get a hard on out of shooting helpless civilians. This can not really be compared to GTA as this game is much more realistic and serious and GTA as great as the graphics are is still unrealistic and comical at best.

I am a huge cod fan but this is obviously just to get attention and publicity. And anyone that lets their underage kids (whom these days can not determine real life from games) play this game should have the kids taken away.

Honestly, I said in an earlier post that I would play this. I have to recant. As an Adult I understand that I can skip the level, its not seeing or playing the level that is as offensive as the principle behind it. I can't support a company that is going to pass this off as a game. I can't and won't do it. Those that are saying it's just a game need to take a look in the mirror and evaluate there priorities and morals. A topic like this is much more than a game and being passed off as one is down right obscene.

everyone is constantly looking for the next game thats close to "real" life. IW is doing its job and doing it well. u want to play as a terrorist? well there ya go thats what they do. if u dont like it go read a book (which also depicts "random acts of violence" in them) all u ppl do is ask companies to create better realistic games and when they hand it to u. u complain because its to real and blah blah blah. this happens every day in real life no one gives 2 s**ts about it until its on a video game, movie or happens in the states. if its another country oh well we shrug and keep moving. i personally enjoy how much thought IW put into this game. they made it very believable and u cant ask for more from a media company

I have no problem with this level,

If your rate M age wise playing it.
If you have all your marbles in your bag.
If you know the diffrence between real and not real.

It's no diffrent than a movie testing your value's and drawing emotion from it.

I don't have a problem with the level or it being made. I just won't be playing it. I do however have a problem with the hypocraxy that is walmart and the rest of the media having problems with mass effects sex scenes or gta's sex scenes's yet this is being pushed as just a game. These really are not games so much anymore as they are giving you the ability to live out real world objectives virtually. That said, again, i do not have a problem with it as an adult, i just hope parents will use proper precautions and be proactive to the games content. M rating or not kids will play it.

17.2 - Just a video game...there I said it...
And it's rated "M" for mature. What's so MATURE about blowing up civilians?! Sounds pretty juvenile to me. Are serial killers mature? No. They're mentally unstable. And so is anyone who buys this game.

And so is anyone who buys this game? Holy hell! what a moronic thing to say! you just insulted a butt load of gamers, I find that more offensive than the video itself. go back to your Wii games and leave us "mentally Unstable" gamers alone.

19 - The best thing about all this Controversial CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Video
It will make parents take a closer look at the rating on games.
When it hits the media.

It's not that good for IW, those are sales lost.
But, thats the price to pay for educating the public.

Not that sales will be bad at all for this game.

20 - Goddamn!
THis shocked me.

After reading the comments about how this arguably has been done in videogames before and therefore shouldn't shock anyone, I was forced to think about why it shocked me.

The only conclusion i have is that it looks damn realistic!
The faces, the behaviour of people, the mood, the ambience, the panic.

It felt so real and confronting
It was almost too real.

IS this a step forwards or backwards?
How will regulators view this increased realism?

hmmm.

Too real?

I know this is a game. But you cannot blame the realism that we face when it comes to terrorism. That vid was sick, but this kinda sheit can happen anytime in the world. After 9-11, the world is a different place now. Onslaughts like this to innocent people has been happening for centuries.

You guys have to remember, the games we play are almost no diffrent than the movies we watch. War is never pretty. Casulities of innocents do happen.

Games ARE different than movies. Games are interactive and different areas of your brain are affected by doing than by watching. I'm not saying game violence causes anything because I don't believe it does, but they ARE fundamentally different.

23 - I think it's just a bit hypocrytical
to claim that we want games to be an art form and then say "ther was no reason to include this in the game. They just wanted controvted to make you feel emotion when you did this. It does not, in any way, gorify the killing of civilians, like gta does, but rather condemns it. The way you walk through the level, the way you csualy mow down people just rying to save their family, and the way the whole thing is just to prove a point really shows the horrors of political killing.
