Controversial CoD: Modern Warfare 2 Video

Infinity Wards' soon to be released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 appears to drop players into some pretty controversial roles during the games campaign mode. One being this "Airport" scene from the No Russian level. Check it out after the jump.

Sensitive nannies here. Don't join the military and go to war kiddies. The real thing makes this virtual look funny. Experience is the deciding factor here. People whom have experienced gore more than likely will not cry foul here. I find it hard to believe that even FPS vets with an origin from consoles and PC's would find this distasteful.

I see a digital rendered avatar with a digital gun and a bunch of others without....so. It is still a game not a punch in my moral gut when the virtual bullets hit them. And for all you kids crying foul this happens around the world every week. Get off your collective fannies and go do something to stop, protest, or petition that. I did my part in the military and some of you may have.

The majority of you that are butt hurt...welcome to the reality of things. If this glimpse in the virtual is so disturbing then you need to put the controller down or re-evaluate your game choices. And stay away from world news you might see reality is far more disturbing. Do any of you even watch the news?! Fort Hood TX ring any bells...the nut fired 2 years ago whom decided to shoot his old job up sound familiar?!

And I believe some of you may have succomed to too much gameplay to escape the reality of life only to find this little event soiled your scripted perfect little vacation.

Games of late are reflective of reality weclome to reality kiddies.

I don't care what kind reaction you are looking for in Gameplay, this is a new low. The gunning down of innocent people in any capacity is wrong. I have been looking forward to this game, but now having doubts!!!

Why are people so upset about this? Can't handle when they offer a realistic point of view from the terrorist's perspective of things? Don't play the game if it bothers you. It's that simple. What's done is done, they're not going to recall all game discs so they can change the level.

By the way, I have always gunned down innocent civilians in every game I played. It's fun because you know it isn't real. Come on, now - you have to admit... Welcome to The Jungle by Guns and Roses definitely fits this scenario and would be absolutely hilarious to play to. ;)

good thing the graphics are such crap...it looks like the sims on a rampage...CALL OF DOOKIE games have always been wayyyy behind the competition...and why does the main character appear to be on rails....is he?.. or is he just ice skating?

6 - I hope the story justifies this
I have no problem with and enjoy games like GTA, state of emergency and all the others that let you kill civilians, but theres something about this thats a bit more shocking. I guess thats the impact they wanted, but i hope there's a good reason for it.

Nothing in this game evokes any sense of realism to me... it looks artificial, from the character modeling to the movement of the player... I'm actually really disappointed... I hope only the consoles versions look this poor.... it's sad...all those console players with HDTV"s, that aren't playing any games in HD....you guys need to demand better... now if a game like uncharted 2 had these images in it it would be a bit more disturbing,....but call of dookie looks like a 4 year old SIM's game

Day 1!

Morally it's no worse than playing an 'evil' character in any other game. What about blowing up Megaton with the nuke in Fallout 3?

Personally, I think Fallout 3 is more disturbing, seeing everything in ruins... that gives me the chills.

12 - I know I'm putting my bubbles on the line, BUT....
How did this get approved, and where is the FCC? I admit, I play Halo, Gears, and Resistance...but, this is over the line. (Yea, there is a zone that game developers don't cross....believe it or not.) With so many people/countries being victimized by terror, IW could have left this out....they will still make their money.

Simply, WOW. There is really is no need for this at all. I mean, I am a COD fan, and want to buy this game....but Infinity Ward can always use the excuse that "This is just a gam" and "There is violence all around is"...such ignorant desensitization.

How about option number 6 to conclude my "let's take a positive look at this" spin.

YOU ARE PROMPTED TO PLAY THE MISSION, meaning for those of you having trouble keeping up at home; By selecting 'No' you can skip this entirely without having to even start the damn thing.

Now you WILL by this game because you don't have to even go through this and everyone is happy...except the PC crowd but, win some lose some.

I think for the stable and right minded people, I'm sure it's ok to play that sort of story line as long as they keep it all in perspective. But for the fruit cake Americans that have a lifetime membership to the gun club this may be a problem in the future.

I'm just waiting to see on Sky News that a gun toating maniac stormed an Airport and shot dead a few people. Oh and by the way a copy of MW2 was found at his house.

15 - Multiplayer
Multiplayer is the main reason why people will buy this....at least that is all I care about. ODST sold quite well, but the numbers were no where near Halo 3 or the somewhat of a disapointing Gears 2. Still, the 3 million ODST copies went to the hard core Halo fans, while most gamers (Like me) stuck with Halo 3...for the reason that there is no real reason to buy a $60 game with just 3-4 extra multiplayer maps. (That we all know will be open for all of the Halo community, at some point.)

I recognize the art in games with tons of violence and sex, just thought that what I believe is a "gimmick" was only evident in games like: Leisure Suit Larry, DOA/TECMO games, and a few other mediocre game franchises. Maybe GTA and Modern Warfare 2 feel like there is more money out there for them. I really don't see the need to the vulgar in their games....the are already triple A titles.

16 - One more reason to hate this game series...
Yes, it's JUST a game...but is this the kind of thing this f*cked up world needs to offer to punk kids for entertainment? I pity any parent who buys this for their kid. It's rated M, yes, but that won't stop it from getting into MANY wrong hands. Heck...it shouldn't be in ANYONE'S hands. It's sick, the COD games SUCK, and this extreme measure is the only way for them to get sales.

16.1 - Really good point...
I agree with you. However, if you are of age...then I believe that it's your right to buy ultra violent or XXX material. I just wish that the same types of measures against under age drinking and auto accidents, (in correlation with the bars or people who provide it for minors) should be used against providers of under age game players. Fine the store, parent/guardian, and kid...but what am I talking about...we do not live in a society where people have to accept responsibility. IW just wanted to ensure that they become the highest selling game of all time...and prob. felt that ultra and from what I saw, senseless violence, was a good idea. I will play he multiplayer, but not the single player. (just like I did for World at War and COD4)

18.1 - We get it
We all know this is a video game, but you don't seem the realize is the backlash from others that don't see it from our view. Yes, it is just a game, but with all these random acts of violence against innocent people happening way too often, you can't just say "It's just a game" without thinking that others (who don't play) are going to see it for something else. A big part of me has no problem with it, but with all the negative publicity that games get all ready, this isn't going to help at all.

18.2 - Just a video game...there I said it...
And it's rated "M" for mature. What's so MATURE about blowing up civilians?! Sounds pretty juvenile to me. Are serial killers mature? No. They're mentally unstable. And so is anyone who buys this game.

18.3 - Seldom do I reply to people, but.....
Do you understand the theory behind desensitization? And no, I am not trying to insult you, just want to explain my comments on this post. YES, WE DO KNOW THAT THESE ARE JUST VIDEO GAMES! However, the level of acceptance is getting out of control, in terms of the M rating/pushing the envelope thing goes. for those of us (like me), who are of age to purchase M-rated games....no problem. BUT...you know good and damn well that younger kids, some with fragile minds, some who are from the "Urban" Life, (Like me), and undereducated people will not get the "It's just a video game" point. I don't get N4G sometimes.....people cry about the whole PS3/360/Wii/PC fanboys/girls arguments, but as soon as something that sparks good convo pops up...people still hate on each other. From what I have been reading, there are some really good points on this topic.

Look, I am not a fan of censorship. However, I would like to see a punishment/guilt system placed on those who try to profit off other's mis-fortune. Underage drinking effects the community, so we see night clubs, bar, liquor stores, and parents getting into trouble...right? (Which I do not have a problem with, for the record.) Why not place some responsibility on stores and parents who are caught allowing their kids to play M-rated games and watch/rent R/XXX-rated material. You wouldn't be saying this you family members (Havens forbid) were victimized by a person, who got this bright idea from a movie or game....they somehow were able to watch or play when only 9, 10, 11, 12 years old....WOULD YOU? We are just sharing thoughts on this topic.....NO ONE IS GOING TO SENSOR YOU OR TAKE YOUR RIGHT TO PLAY VIOLENT AND SEXUALLY EXPLICIT GAMES! Maybe you should work for Walmart or Microsoft....seeing that from what I'm reading, you don't have a problem with screwing over unsuspecting, educationally disadvantaged(for whatever reason), emotionally challenged, and desensitized people. TV, Games, and Guns are not the main villain in our world, it's the state of mind of people who make excuses for this stuff. I rather people say, "If you are of age ONLY, you can have acccess to certain stuff. THINK ABOUT IT.

19 - I don't know about this...
I mean, movies do crap like this all the time and no one really says much about it, but games continue to get flack over things like this. I know GTA has allowed something like this to happen, but this kinda takes it to a whole new level. This is a recreation of an act of terrorism vs the random act of murder in GTA. It is too close to home right now when you put this in a video game when actual events like this are happening way to often lately; Ft Hood being the latest. Infinity Ward, in my opinion, took this too far. I think they could have left this out. The backlash isn't going to be pretty once the media gets their hands on this. We'll never here the end of it. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it starts getting pulled from shelves. I know that's a bit much, but I'm telling you this is a sensitive thing right now. Especially after Hood. A big part of me has not issue with this, I'm just thinking of how the media is going to make this out. It won't be good.

It's funny you guys mention CNN. I don't think they noticed it. I think it was either yesterday or on Friday that CNN talked about the impending release of this game coming out and how it is estimated to make $500 million in sales in the first week alone. They also showed scenes from the game but none of the airport scene or even any mention of controversy.

I can't wait to gun down hundreds of civilians in that airport.
In the same way I always loved running over civilians in GTA.
And the same way I shot civilians in Saints Row.

I can do this because I understand this is a game, and I'm mentally capable enough to not go out and reinact it. Although I'm contemplating HOW to kill my first civilian, should I aim for the head or pull out the knife and go for the hands on approach?

Take that,internet white knights.

Brutal? of course! Over the top? Yea!! but i dont care honestly. didnt even flinch throughout the level. Hell i even squeezed off alot of rounds off at them. Lets all face it. Violence and inhumanity has been around loong before media. No murderers or rapists get their ideas from media outlets. This stuff has been going on forever and it will continue to go on. You should not have to participate in this level, I could see if they really wanted you to hate the bad guys, they could have just showed a cut-scene instead of trying to make you part of the terrorist group.

Anyone how has played GTA and gets off killing innocents and then complains here needs therapy.

IW could have handled this part of the game better. Oh well I pre-ordered and will find out soon enough.

I still don't see what all the fuss is about. You're controlling a terrorist - big deal? In the PS3 game Warhawk I used to fly my plane into the sides of buildings with online buddies and pretend it was a re-enactment of the 9/11 incidents... but yet, I haven't attempted to do it IRL... yet.

This is only controversial to people who want something to complain about - to others, it's just a game, like myself.
