A Load Time Comparison Between 360 and PS3 Netflix

PS3Blog.net writes:

I just finished making this video, but it compares the time it takes from starting up the system to being able to view playback of a movie. For the PS3 running off of a disc and then streaming the video, the time lapse is really close, at least within 1 second. Even the selection of the video to actual playback is close, with the 360 having a slight 3 second edge.

Bit surprising that the 360 has only a slight lead. Running off a disc, I'd imagine the PS3 would be notably slower.

You know, like how Tekken 6 shouldn't be... :/

Do people really care about three seconds? Even if it were 10 seconds I'd prefer it on my PS3 cause I actually have it connected to the internet.

It's about preference and what's easier. Not three seconds.

-but, but you have to use the disc to bla bla bla....

This just stupid

1.8 - The problem for the 360
is that if Obama has his way and passes strict net neutrality regulation, Comcast and others will not be able to artificially limit bandwidth to sites like Netflix as well as PSP bandwidth.

This means that Netflix might eventually increase the bit-rate to acceptable levels.

The 360's problem is that it's CPU is not fast enough to decode true high-bit rate video and decoding HD-DVD was done through a combination of CPU and GPU. Since Netflix uses a different encoding scheme Microsoft will have to update all the Xbox's with new decoding software. Could be messy.

The PS3, on the other hand, has the Cell processor, which can decode multiple HD streams all by itself so that's not a problem.

I don't think that is any kind of delay considering how long they've had to perfect the service on Live AND with it having to run from a disk as well. Good effort on the PSN side so far, imo.

Libing, as I do, in the UK I can't use EITHER service mind(which when I pay for Live even more than US gamers gets on my tits a bit-can't moan too much about PSN SCEE not habving it when it's free though and at least Sony are bringing some kind of Vid store soon. It's a bit crappy that we pay more for Live and get less in the EU, imo.

honestly, I will NEVER use netflix on ps3. Why? Because it has blu-ray. Why would I downgrade from blu-ray to netflix?

He has a fully animated Afrika background, way to ruin any significance this could have possibly had...

and don't forget, new users just turn on the xbox 360 and log in in nextflix and you are ready to go...news users turn on the PS3 and....wait for the disc.

BTW you don't pay $42.9 a year just for nextflix....jesus why fanboys always came out with that everytime microsoft release a new feature for XBL?...."nahh i won't pay $50 for facebook" "nahh i won't pay $50 for twitter" "nahhh i won't pay $50 for chat party" " nahhh i won't pay $50 for twitter"....

yes an xbox 360 users pay $42 only for facebook right?....jesus.

yes it have a browser and the browser update your facebook/twitter status automatic from what you're playing in PSN?...NOT!

i rather pay $42 year and having new features every year than getting firmwares every month with nothing new but bugs for free...that's why i only use PSN for updates or demos, nothing more

Apocalypse Shadow - 47 days ago
5.3 - actually
firmwares aren't every month.and they are not filled with bugs as none of them have effected my original 60g(500g now) ps3.

secondly, what games is saying is that twitter and facebook on 360 is not worth gold membership when those same features can be done on ps3 for **FREE**...besides EVERY OTHER THING ps3 does with the built in web browser.

third, you spoke of ps3 gamers having to pop in a disc...it's called "exclusive."but sony and netflix just destroyed a microsoft advantage by using a disc.and it gives you bd live features that 360 netflix doesn't have.another exclusive ended just like netflix, just like ninja gaiden, just like star ocean, just like bioshock, etc.

and lastly, having a disc in the machine until the contract ends so that it can be a firmware update in 2010 is not a bad thing.a bad thing would be installing a 360 game to the hard drive to save it from breaking but STILL having to POP IN THE DISC to play.

works both ways.but in ps3's case,it's not to keep the noise down or save the system.it's to destroy exclusivity.

Wow...your ignorance irritates me.

We'll stop saying you're paying $50 a year for twitter when you stop pretending it's a feature, let alone one to get excited about. People bring up facebook and twitter because idiots like you won't shut up about it.

I don't understand how you can get so excited about something so minor. If you're fine with paying a fee for upgrades like that, then go ahead.

I don't think that's true now. They must have come to an agreement. I had a row of movies on Xbox Netflix not long ago dedicated to just Sony movies.

9 - Very informative
I think this vid/article was informative for me. My friend has a 360 and showed me how fast and easy it is to use netflix. And honestly that was enough ton convince me to buy one. But when I heard netflix was coming to ps3 I decided tohold off. But I was still concern if it was as easy and/or fast as 360. Well that solves my problem. no need to cough up $300 for a 360. Besides I woulda been scared everytime I turned it on hoping it wouldnt malfunction.

12 - what's the vid resolution on that video for 360 streaming?
you can clearly see PS3 is streaming at full hd (1920x1080p) but for "some reason" the resolution its blurred for the 360... I'd like to know if its running at full HD or 720p
