I just got my disc in the mail just a minute ago! :-) I haven't tried it out yet but from what I could tell, its a DVD. It makes little sense to give out thousands of blu-ray discs when they could give out cheaper DVD's instead (considering that the disc isn't used for any more than communication between Netflix and PSN)

Godmars290: upscaling? Where? Or are you talking about the 1080p streaming thing? (which is native)

Isn't the 360's streaming suppose to be going to 1080p depending on connection?

Called it upscaling since its suppose to downscale if you don't have a proper connection.

3 - not having to queue movies on PC first or having to pay 2 fees like the 360 version
makes netflix on the ps3 a much more attractive proposition....

Just popped it in and am watching South Park. Problem free! No queuing either!

When do you queue up first on the 360? That was the old version. It has long since been updated with categories.
Granted, you do not have the entire collection of movies in th cats.

The PS3 version when I tried it is just like the Roku version. Yes, you can update the queue via the browser, but you are still adding to the queue first.

5 - 2.1 MB peak with a 1.9 MB average
video bitrate! YAAAAAY! I'd rather rent a blu-ray for 25-30 MB bitrate.

Too many awesome games out to be watching movies

Dude 1: "Hey man, so how are you going to be spending the best year in gaming so far?"

Dude 2: "Eh, I'll be watching Netflix"

Dude 1: "So why even buy a PS3?"

*EDIT* @ 6.2
Touche

It's a nice feature, but I'm just swamped with games at the moment. I just run to Blockbuster if I want to watch a movie. I don't do it enough to subscribe to any services right now.

Funny stuff! Yeah I'm playing Dragon Age now, can't even think about movies. Hell, I am only on season 3 of Sopranos, but I can't find time with these games.

It is a new feature on the PS3 that people have reason to be excited about, instead of ripping on it in a forum why don't you just not use the feature and continue gaming like you had mentioned..

You have to use a disc for netflix streaming on PS3 WOW this is sad

EDIT:Just got done trying Netflix on PS3, First you can't even use the XMB bar while in netflix, second there's not that many titles, third the interface sucks, come on now this is supposed to be next gen, do I really need a disc for streaming?

I know right? Having a disc in a disc drive is crazy huh?

OMG why would they do that with the drive?

Don't they know you cant't use it while you are watching movies unless you are playing a DVD or BR?

WTF! you mean I can't have my game sitting in the drive doing nothing while I stream stuff from netflicks!?!

This would all be so sad if I was a total idiot.

ya I guess with the constant disc swapping needed to play games on the 360 the last thing you would want is to have to put in is yet another disc.

using it now. it looks neater and easier to navigate, its all up/down/left/right as opposed to having to button mash on the 360.

the 360 loads each page faster.

I threw my back out so i'm not going to run from room to room or connect them to the same tv yet but i think the ps3 version shows more movies in each genre section.

also there are two ways to sift through. the main way is similar to the 360. choose your section, move to the left, press it or go down to view the info. the second way is when you choose to go down to view the info ont he ps3 version, you can go left to right in that section and it will load faster but you wont get the larger boxart, more like thumbnail view.

i'd say the only winner here is the netflix users. doesn't matter which one you use over the other. for me it will be based on which room i am in at the time.

I can only expect it to get better for the ps3 version loading wise once its a full XMB app and not through BDLive.

9.1 - I have both on my set up...
I actually have streaming on both machines at the same time and funny thing, my 360 netflix is giving me full 4 bars and my ps3 is at 2 bars. I don't get it. WTF I was going to move my 360 into my bedroom cuz i am not playing many games on it now, but if the ps3 isnt giving me the same stream speed on the same cable internet line I don't think I will. WTF

Edit:
Like I eluded to in the other thread http://www.n4g.com/ps3/News... , The PS3 version works as well as all the others. They are much the same once the movie gets started. That is all that matter. The only reason I will not use the PS3 version is because I have a Roku in the living room; and my 2nd 360 in the bedroom that I use really only for netflx (My old UK 360). Anyway, if I do not have Neflix in the PS3, I can have UC2 in there instead. I am currently being crushed by crushing

11 - The real winner?
Is the family that has netflix & a ps3.
No extra charges. No hidden fees. No fear of failure.
Larger selection & the ability to rent Blurays & BDLive.
It's fast, fun, free entertainment by our blessed ps3.

Ps3 again proves free is good & better means more.

I don't see how anyone can argue paying more for less on shoddy equipment.
With all the money you save not paying for xboxlive & Microsoft points you could have bought a surround sound system or a HDTV. You could have bought more games & movies. Instead you paid 3X for party chat & avatars.

I guess the NXE experience is meant for the little girls tea party.
That's not hardcore.

Hate me! I only play playstation.

I have a Roku and the PS3 streaming disc is fine. The interface is fast, the quality of the stream is fantastic and I'm having no scaling issues (watching Night of the Living Dead with my daughter as I type this). If it is this good running off a disc, I can't wait for the app. Good job Netflix! You've shown there IS good BD-Live code out there ;)

I actually had used the Netflix streaming as a "reason" to buy a 360. There are games I always wanted to play on the 360 but never was reason enough to shell out the money for a console. PS3 is my primary console, with this netflix thing happening it will be even more my primary. (easy to teach the GF to use)

Off topic: I did buy GoW2 for 15 bucks from gamefly. pretty damn fun in horde mode i gotta say!

I admit i prefer the ps3 over the 360, I like the netflix interface on the ps3 and i don't mind the the disc.... But I hate to say it but the quality of the streams are much better on the 360 i just compared lost season4 ep 1 on both systems and it looks a bit blurry on the ps3.. just my two cents
