Demon's Souls Director Discusses Difficulty, Sequels, And More

Game Informer writes:

"Though I went into Demon's Souls slightly terrified by the stories I'd heard of its intense difficulty, I ended up loving it (just read my review to see how much). Impressed by how the game came together but a bit confused as to why I enjoyed it so much in spite (or perhaps because of) the challenge, I decided to get a behind-the-scenes perspective from the game's creators.

Demon's Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki turned out to be just the man to answer my questions about why they made the game so hard, how it's connected to King's Field series, and even some tips on how to pass the most difficult levels."

0.1 - Sorry...
There is no help for our kind. I can only hope that one day this Demon will grant my soul release.

Now I'm off to 2-2 to get PWWT and claim my bone smasher. Come on Black phantoms. I'll be waiting!

1 - I read this and it sums up demons soul perfectly....
"But I have lived, and I have not lived in vain;
My mind may lose its force, my blood its fire:
And my frame perish even in conquering pain;
but there is that within me which shall tire
Torture and Time, and breathe when i expire..." -Lord Byron

This guy must have played demon' soul :)

6 - Awesome and unique
And worthy of a sequel.The difficulty is overblown but the game isn't without it's challenges, especially early on.Dagger +10,heater shield +2,Dex 54,Vitality 12,Strength 14,Soul Arrow(for red knights and flamelurker)=done deal.Be patient and tricky and it eventually all falls into place.Again,Awesome damn game,dark and moody and rewarding.Paid 100$ cdn. for the special edition and would gladly do so again.=)

Whoa, Dex 54. I'm Dex 38 and can basically one shot kill anything except bosses with Sticky Long Bow +5. It does have an S bonus for Dex though so if your not using that I could see upin it that far.

If anything it's not hard enough. After you beat the game once, you know exactly what to do and it becomes easy. Even if you start a brand new character you can beat the first playthrough in like 6 hours if you know how.

8 - Awesome
Demon's Soul's 2, lets your old file be move to this new game an all equipment will be move with it and all stats an spells. Only problem.....things are more stronger and bader then you.

In some ways I think it be awesome to make it in to a huge open world game, like how Elder Scrolls is but with unreal bosses walking around and I think the create a character needs to get more dealt.

I love the game but I think you should be able to make your character short, tall or even fat. This would make it were not everyone looks the same in someways and being able to edit your old character would be cool.

As soon as I seen this up for preorder ^-^ it is going to be paid off that day.

I'm not sure a sequal right away is the correct course of action for this game.

What is giving this game the praise it is getting and deserves is the refreshing difficulty of the game. The brutal learning curve. The online (which I love more than any other...I don't like chatting with other people or playing deathmatches), and creative level design.

If all this were blended again, it just wouldn't have that same WOW factor it does now.

That said, I would like to see this type of challenge and combat implemented in a more story setting. Towns you can walk around in, many NPC's to talk to.

As it stands, this is one of my favorite RPG's ever. Top 10 at least probably higher. But this kind of addictive battle system and challenge along with even a decent story and exploration would be pure greatness.

11 - Don't get me wrong, I want a sequel, but not right away.
In my view, they have really hit a chord with this game that is resonating with a lot of gamers. For me, it is an instant classic. I can not remember the last time that I was so obsessed about a game…maybe not since Vagrant Story.

From a business standpoint, this game could be their meal ticket.

Take your time with the sequel FROM. Improve on everything. Fix the ragdoll physics of the dead bodies. Add a little more story. Make the lock-on more precise. Give us more worlds (maybe that broken archstone in the Nexus could be repaired and lead to even bigger worlds…)

The game is already EPIC. Even with the few problems that it has, the essence of the game play and the worlds are such that you eagerly overlook them. The game is that good. Imagine if they worked hard to improve on what is already there.

I think that they are a little shocked by the reception and success that Demon’s Souls is garnering. I hope that they are in the mind of the following: “Holy crap…we’ve got something good here, let’s treat it with the respect that it deserves and let’s not screw this up.” So I hope that FROM goes back to the drawing board and comes out with a sequel that is not only an improvement over the first game, but uncompromising in its reverence for this unique gem that they have created. I do not want t hem to whore DS out with a release every year just to make a quick buck. We all know of “franchises” that get used like a hooker in Vegas during a shriner’s convention.

Give us what we want and we’ll love you for a day.
Give us what we need and we’ll love you forever.
