Is Modern Warfare 2 the most anticipated game of all time?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare didn't receive anywhere near as much hype leading up to its release as its sequel has. That's a given considering it was the first in the Modern Warfare franchise and the first Call of Duty game to move onto the modern battlefield. We all knew it was going to be great, taking the series to all new heights with more advanced weapons and a great online experience. But it blew up. It went crazy. Halo 2 may have defined online gaming for consoles, helping make XBOX Live the great online service it is today, but COD4 seemed to redefined it. It was able to attract an all-new market of gamers to not only the genre, but also to online multiplayer gaming.

This goes back a LONG way, but Super Mario Bros. 3 was the most anticipated game I can remember.

In the "modern" era though, MW2 is definitely the most anticipated. The fact that it's multi-platform gives it the edge over Halo 3.

GTA4 was probably the most anticipated. GTA is one of the most popular franchises out there. Especially since it's multiplatform. Some people said Halo 3. That may be the case...for 360 owners. But in general, GTA4 was the most anticipated game of all time(IMO).

this might just be the game that can touch the hype and sale glory of halo3 if not this one i dont see anything non-halo doing so... infact the xbox community alone will carry this game in sales to mad figures.. .. but we have the pc and the ps3 too.. so expect this to be well ridiculous.. at the point if activision puts 50 pounds on this shyt ppl will still buy..i personally cant wait... its killin me..TUESDAY!..baby..

I don't think you can really judge the anticipation level until after you see the first week/first month sales.

Honestly, I can't see this being the most anticipated, especially once you factor in the discontent relating to the whole dedicated server issue.

In addition, it's not really fair to compare anticipation of past games to today's. With the internet, the ability to build that anticipation is far superior than it was in the days of the NES, SNES, or even the Playstation and N64. When I was a kid, whatever was on TV was what I wanted. I don't remember seeing that many video game commercials either...

Well if you must know I'm currently playing the best racer of all time in Forza 3, having a great time playing Firefight with my friends with Halo ODST, also having a fantastic time playing Borderlands. I haven't picked up Dragon Age yet but I will. I have Left 4 Dead 2 and MW2 just around the corner that I will definitely pick up.

So yeah I'm having a great time with my 360. :) Maybe some day you'll finally be happy with yourself and your gaming. Much anger in you.

The force is strong with this one. Is it the most anticipated game of all time? Its hard to say IMO. I definitely believe it had the potential to be. With Activision being the parent company of the game and IW pissing off people for several reasons leads me to beleieve 2 things.

#1 Activision is the new EA(Of Old) and actually worse

#2 MW2 regardless to how well it sells, couldve sold even more without the stunts IW has pulled.

Either way it will be a hit

MGS4 was IMHO most anticipated. I remember the days vividly. MGS4 haunted my dreams... I couldn't do anything without thinking about it. N4G was flooded with MGS4 articles pre and post release of the game.

Maybe if you could travel through time and see what impact a particular thing in this a game had on society as a whole then and only then could you honestly say such a thing. That is a ridiculous statement. That being said I think this will be one of the very best games to date.
