That shouldn't be too hard for them to make back. 1 million units @ $60. That really isn't bad at all. Yes, I realize there is more to it than that. I am just trying to dumb it down for some people.

They (Sony) don't make anything close to $60 per game sold, but yeah, shouldnt have a problem making that back with some healthy profit thrown in for good measure. That's actually less than I would of thought, considering the time and effort put into it, plus all the other stuff that goes with a game that contains copyrighted material (lot's of checks).

1.2 - they must be expecting huge
sales for this game.

and from past iterations, i think they are right

actually 60 million is pretty modest for a venture like this. But on the other hand, yes you are right, I am sure they are expecting a really nice payday for this one and it will pretty much go for them (sales wise) the way all GT's have -- through the roof.

Sony will easily make back this investment, in game sales, as well as console sales, and in turn other game sales.

The demo alone sold 4 million without any ads that i know of. GT5 will sell at least 13 million when all is said and done.

For those that just game this gen. GT is HUGE!!!.

Gran Tourismo games consistently sell upwards of 10 million units. This is the safest investment in an IP Sony could ever make.

1.11 - Question
When are they going to release it? From what I hear God of War 3, Heavy Rain and Gran Turismo 5 are all releasing in March... At least one will be delayed, and I can't see Gran Turismo being delayed because in terms of sales, it is the big daddy. So I wonder when God of War 3 and Heavy Rain will release? Just asking this question is amazing.. Noone can picture any other platform holder having a AAA release schedule as tightly packed as this :)

Putting VGchartz news article aside... i think

http://www.gtplanet.net/yam...

is more news worthy than $60m production costs...

Particularly

"There are three factors which determine what cars are included: the cars that Yamauchi wants to be in it, the cars that players want, and the cars the manufacturers want. Manufacturers have offered to pay to have their vehicles included, but Polyphony Digital has never accepted any money. Instead, they work together with the other companies which usually develops “into a relationship where we collaborate to raise the level of the game”

from that article. I think a sentence from that would've made a better headline.

1.15 - If GT5 sells 1million copies at $60 bucks each, then they'll make back the money
And I'm pretty sure it will sell more than 1 million in the first week. I really cant wait for this.

1.19 - People asked, "But what about all those car licensing, doesn't that cost a lot?"
No.

See, Turn 10 had to pay car manufaturers to put their cars in Forza 3.
Meanwhile, car manufaturers had to pay PolySony Digital to put their cars in GT5.

When you're The King, car manufaturers pay you to advertise their cars.

They can spent that amount of money because they now how amazing this franchise sell

off-topic

The bubble system is use to shut someone up, right? We can't have an agree/disagree option and when you reach an amount of disagrees you get banned or something, because is really stupid try to have the bubbles when a fanboy/douche don't like your post and start to take off

Healthy numbers!! for a Game of this calibur!Throw all the Money at it! and resources!!
Till this day nothing matches the visual bliss and fidelity that GT5 opening sequences and gameplay offer at true 1080p.
NOTHING.
This is a justification to owning an HDTV or eve PS3.
The day these games start hitting 100 milion a game that is when Hollywood has met its match and Id rather play a 20 hours long game than a 2 hour movie anytime with visuals this stunning.

I honestly thought it would be a bit higher...killzone 2 was not far off $60 million also...the tech in both games is what makes up the biggest expense more or less...

but yeah...PD and Sony will not have trouble making that money back relatively quickly...

A chunk of the GT dev cash is tied up/paid for by the car manyfacturers isn't it? I thought that was the reason behind damage being such an issue but only for GT, no?

And aren't the recent estimates for KZ2 a fair bit lower than this? I thought it was around the $25-30 million mark at the latest count, no?

Also, IIRC, arne't there a few good advertising deals for trackside advertising in GT games? Can't recall where I've read it as it was about GT4 so a long while ago but I imagine the same is true of this game too. Whatever, I doubt very much that it's cost Sony 60 mill to mke of their own cash.

They should have made $160 million from GT5:P, divide that 3 ways and Sony is left with 53 million of pure profit. And that was just the demo.

I'm guessing he means between Sony as publisher, PD as developer and the cut for the retailers/storage facilities/distributors(physic al media on planes, trains and trucks)all lumped together as the third way. That's what I thought of what he said anyway.

also when gt5 hit they will sell even more and make even more profit with dlc and such only adding more.

7.3 -
Well, IW are too close with Acti nd it's all about the benjamins with those guys as you can see from the EU hike and PC treatments of late.

I think they saw how well WaW did and figured they didn't need to push the expensive stuff to fill their boots with cash-and, apparently whether some of us approve or not, it appears they were dead right. They could've released a ruerd and it certainly would sell damn well-at least this time around just because it's them and it's COD, no? Christ, they behaved in a poor enough way to put people off but it really hasn't-so why would they break the bank? They had no need to when success was assured and applause likely even for MW1.5(if that's what we get). A greater expense would only have cut their profit, imo, so no extra pretty for us.

being conservative and saying they make $10 a copy GT5 would only need to sell 6million units to break even which may seem like alot but GT3 went on to sell 14 million units or so. i wouldn't be surprised to see GT5 sell at least 8+ million units

Sony respects us enough to spend this much money on GT instead of spending 1/3 on creating the game then spend 2/3 of the total budget to advertise it.
