Clearly he hasn't played "a lot" since he's trying to get a +5 falchion. There's so many things wrong with that, I don't even know where to start. By the sounds of that, he only played like 2 levels. And you should never "cash in" a demon soul if there's a possible upgrade. Souls are easy to get, and none of the boss souls give enough souls that it's worth using over upgrading. Also, there's no reason to grind to level unless you just suck. People shouldn't try to write about the intricacies of this game until after they've beaten the game at least once. Most people write articles (and even reviews) after only playing like 2 or 3 levels, and hope people can't tell, even when they make video reviews only showing the first 2 levels, and bragging about a weapon you can get like 2 hours into playing.

I beat the tower knight!!!!
Just last night.

I had planned to defeat him on Halloween but the red guards got me everytime & you know how close the dragons breath gets so I waited till Halloween was over & now the knight is dead!!!

Demons souls is like a book come to life.
Part neverending story , part classic text game I started playing in the 80's.

I'm a thief class & you'll see my ghost always guarding with a dagger held by both hands still until it's time to strike.
Demon giants have fallen under my blade. You will too.

This was a good article but these stupid misleading titles need to stop. You always find people thinking they're being clever and playing on words in here with these kinds of titles but a title like this isn't a play on words, it's just a false statement. If you say, 'This game is boring' there's no way that can mean 'This game is great but makes you a boring person'.

This arcticle really does sum up the game nicely.

I was skeptical at first. Very little story, dungeon crwalwer, good but not great graphics (but good art design)...hard...it just didnt seem like my type of game.

Then I started to read up on it. NeoGaf has a great thread on it...I sucked it up and bought the Deluxe....Easily the best decision I have made this generation followed closely by VC.

This game is difficult to review and even harder to understand without playing it. It is true brilliance in the way it is designed. You will say "Dammit, why did I do that" "MORON!" Dont get ahead of yourself..impatience...

The brilliance of this game lies in a few things because it had to to balance out the difficulty.
1) Level Design, the first time through it will take you forever, but once you open up short cuts and know what enemies to skip when you are trying to get back to a boss that owned you, you can get there in a few minutes.

2) Creating a sense of loss when you die. WIth the souls being taken away or losing your body, you have an actual FEAR of dying. As opposed to other games where death means you have a quick load screen and off you go again. It creates a sense of tension througout the entire game.

3) The combat is tactical. Every shield block, swing of your sword, magic cast is a thought out strategy. It is not how powerful you are (though it helps). Yes this is an ACTION RPG, but really it is a TACTICAL ACTION RPG. The gameplay is the best I've played in a game of the RPG nature. Hell maybe even ever.

4) Online, very cool online...It adds to the single player experience. Awesomely done.

All this adds to why we all like it so much. FOCUS. This game requires every ounce of focus and concentration that you have to do well. You cannot kick back on your couch with a beer on the table and play around a little bit. You have to be sitting upright and thinking only of the next swing, next shield block, next enemy. This game requires you to remain patient, cool and collected. When you get frustrated, hurring, impatient the game has you where it wants you. You will die.

Sure there are many other games out there that deserve GOTY for their broad appeal, stunning visuals, and excellent presentation.

But for those who do indeed love this game (And its a love or hate...not, its ok) it will be our personal GOTY and put in a special place for one of the best games of all time.

I've played it and it's repetitive and tough. Not saying that I don't like the game, but it's pretty brutal and after dying ten times on one level, I'm about ready to give up and play Uncharted 2 again. You work so hard for an hour trying to pass a level, you have 1000 souls and all of a sudden you're dead? You start again, only to die because of a stupid mistake and you lose your chance to regain those 1000 souls? That just borderlines on torture. You can die in one hit but it takes enemies multiple hits sometimes? I game for enjoyment, not to get angry and upset.

This guy sounds like the type that hates Rescue (MGO), Elimination (UC2), and Everything (Socom).

Being in an unforgiving world, nowing every enemie is a death dealing beast, and having to use caution and preporation makes this game intense and nerve racking (especially when alive). That's not "boring" in my book.

P.S.

You DO NOT have to "farm" to beat this game. Only if your skill is lacking... Shure you may want that +10 Dragon sword, but you do not need it. Also, grinding/lvling for hours? n00b

Seriously, I know they have had sone dubious reviews (Tho in hindsight I agree with their Killzone 2 score - it was polished but totally unoriginal and generic) and some of their editorials can be a bit out there, but they are a clever bunch of guys writing for clever gamers. Not everyone wants their game news and reviews from hacks spunking their wad over screenshots. At least Edge are properly critical instead of frothing at the mouth at every demo they are shown. On topic, this guy is clearly passionate for Demon's Souls and is an avid hardcore gamer showing some love. His title is clearly supposed to express that the game has made HIM boring, though I can see why some people who are too lazy to read the article might be confused.
DS is owning me at the moment, in body and soul. I'm up to around 26 hours, about lvl 40 I think, and only just beat Adjudicator! I'm taking my time, finished Uncharted 2 in a couple of days so I'm making this one last! I feel I need to do more co-op tho, I've hardly done any. Is it worth it, really?

I love this game!!! When I got it at Gamestop the clerk said "Have you heard about this game?". I was like "Yep, sure have, been waiting on it". And they said "Everyone who has bought it said it's the hardest game they have ever played". So I told them I was proud to have a game worth the money that won't be beaten in 2 days or even a week. As stated by other articles, the game isn't for everyone, but if you have a true love of epic role playing games then you will love it!! But damn it's hard....lmao.

I'd have to agree on people watching someone play this game and going straight to the wikis on demon's souls types to cash in or upgrade.

My roommate watched a while and days later I'm playing a section again, and he's like, "Didn't you already beat this section?"

The want to upgrade your stats to use better weapons or upgrade your weapons to progress in the story or kill the invading black phantom keeps you playing over and over again.

Anyone else have the feeling that the only reason this article became so popular is because the 360 fanboys were just waiting for a chance to bash another PS3 exclusive?

This is just my theory I don't really care one way or the other. As for me I have a PS3 but I will definitely not be getting this game. All my dungeon crawling this generation will be coming in the form of Diablo 3. Demon Soul's just seems too brutal to one who spent years wiping in WoW, I can't bear the thought of a game where 'wiping', as it were, is guaranteed.

...among the elite games of the year. I personally find it to be a beautifully built game, which harkens back to the days of "You're on your own, buddy" type of games.

I played it for about 25 or so hours when I decided that it's too frustrating to be worth it for me. I may pick it up again sometime soon, but working full-time leaves little time to be invested into this game.

This is the kind of game you play when you're home for a couple weeks with literally nothing else to do. That way, you have time to recover lost ground when you die inexplicably.

Demons Souls won't hold your hand and walk you through the game like most games now-a-days. DS reminds you of how hard game really were back in the NES days and DS also gives you a great sense of satisfaction when you clear an enemy or area.

Demons Souls is an instant classic and will be talked about for years to come.
