Honestly, what Need for Speed Shift did was revolutionary to the simulation genre. Meaning, they actually sat down and thought about on how to improve this genre by means of feed back, rather than graphics and amount of tracks.

Forza 3 and GT5 may look pretty, act like their real life counterparts; but both games still feel stale and boring. I honestly feel like, I buy a racing game to race not to see how it feels likes on a track. So, I want to get more involved with the race, have someone talk to me over the radio like in race driver Grid (have a crew), each driver has a mind of their own like in grid and nfs:shift (they make mistakes, get nervous or aggressive when i'm near them).

You should read up on GT4, if you constantly bump another car trying to pass you, they WILL bump back. Also, I'm guessing you haven't played GT4/GT5:P or Forza 3, because they both have drivers that make mistakes. Now, yeah, were not talking about neck breaking miscalculations BUT, they do run off the course occasionally.

In real life your eyes don't get all flippin blurred up when you crash and that's what made me delete the NFS:SHIFT demo within seconds of starting a race.

Without realistic graphics in a racing sim the game will feel lame and unrealistic, in a Racing sim everything including realistic graphics all add up to the realism and just adding in a massive over exaggerated impact from a small tap on the wall and adding a whole load of blur to go with the impact isn't going to make it any more realistic with Arcadey PS2 graphics.

Go back to playing Gran Turismo 1 if you hate graphical upgrades.

You might be right on how "approachable and fun" Shift is but overlook the general physics and racing guideline in NFS:Shift. One word... HORRIBLE! Fun c0ckpit view and driving but once it got down to it, it wasn't fun at all. It felt like I was drifting all the time no matter how much grip I had or how fast I was going(fail), and couldn't rely on the guidelines until I was used to the tracks which was quite annoying compared to Forza. No simulator can compare with Forza in this very thing, Forza executes flawlessly in this area.

You want a quick pick up and play racer, try Shift. You want a more serious yet still approachable and fun definitely get Forza 3. Gran Turismo 5 is irrelevant here for it is not even close to releasing.

Instead its a toss up between Forza, Haze and that stupid 360 game with futuristic Vikings that they worked on for 10 years, for who gets the most sales.

GT4 being rated the lowest in the franchise and lower than all of the Forza's never made any sense to me. It was easily the best racing sim of all time when it came out, and by quite a lot. To this day it's STILL got the most cars, it's got the most tracks, it's got the most events, it's got absolutely incredible physics and graphics (especially for a PS2 game, at the time of its release there was no Forza or 360/PS3 graphics, etc.) The game got shafted. It was leaps and bounds better than GT3 A-Spec and yet it scored much lower. A travesty. You shouldn't discount the series because GT4 didn't score as highly as the Forza games and older GT's, because those scores were completely irrelevant to the quality of the game, which was impeccable. GT4's graphics are easily the best out of the entire PS2/Gamecube/Xbox generation, they're amazing. And don't put stock into the scores for Prologue either. That was scored down because it was light on content, and everyone knows it. But the content that was there was impeccable. For a game that's now 2-years old (in Japan at least), it STILL rivals the best racing games on the market in terms of graphics. GT5 will be amazing.

Ratchet & Clank F CiT have been recognized as the best game of the trilogy but reviewers often scored it lower...

If you read the IGN review of GT4 they said that the game was an improvement from the third but it was rated lower anyway...

They are called racing simulations. Sometimes they get it right, sometimes they get it wrong. I'm almost 100% sure you have never driven a Zonda, Lamborghini or a Skyline. So maybe Porsche and Mercedes models in the game don't live up to the real deal, but it sure is hell close.
Developers don't just make a racing sim for the hell of it. they actually take the time to do their research, drive the actual cars, and get professionals to do testing. If a car isn't the same as the real thing, then it's not that big of a deal. There are some people who can't afford those cars and racing them in games lets them drive their dream car.

BTW, you're posting on a site that is almost 95% ranting. This is a site about people's opinions. AND it's a site to rant about games. So if you don't care for it, why are you posting here?

I own both consoles and am a huge racing fan. When push comes to shove, there is no comparison, GT5 (yes even prologue) wins for a simple reason: it feels better! Forza 3 feels arcady still no matter how much praise reviewers have given it, plus no support for the Logitech G25?....I say No. I love my 360 and game on it way more than my PS3 due to the FPS genre, but seriously all of this crap about Forza like it's some sort of racing God is stupid. the Game is ok, just ok.

Im in the same boat. Ive been a sims fan for awhile. Started with GT2. I have both consoles and both wheels, and I also game more on my 360 than I do my PS3, but, even Prologue feels better. Could simply be due to the superior feel of the Logi DFP in comparison to my MS wheel. Dunno. Also, I miss those great GT tracks. That was my main complaint about Forza 2--not enough good tracks. Just picked up Forza last nite.

Why didn't they wait until GT5 dropped so they could have something to compete with? So far Forza 2 and 3 have both been competing/compared to Prologue, which is only a fraction of GT5. If another Forza drops next year I won't be surprised.

I get the feeling what is happening is Forza are trying to gain some market presance, but untill GT messes up really bad, they won't have much of an opening.

Until GT messes up (which I doubt there will be a mess up with GT5 =P) Forza will simply be the 2nd choice IMO.

Then again, i'm just speaking of market placement.

If i shout on the street "RACING SIMULATOR" i'll get most people shouting "GRAN TURISMO" back.

Its just how marketing works =)

I bet GT5 will be ripped apart because of the non-racing features Forza has, like how you can decorate your car in Forza. As for car auction/selling, GT did that, I'm pretty sure it was in 1 or 2, but I could be wrong. They had it a long tome ago though, it transferred cars to the other memory card slot like a transaction. There just wasn't online GT at the time, so that's all they could do.
