Editorial: Great Timing for Gay Tony, But Does the Mainstream Care?

Sinan Kubba of TheGameReviews considers the release of The Ballad of Gay Tony in relation to recent controversy in the UK surrounding homosexuality, and whether or not the game's stance on homosexuality will have any bearing or not on how the mainstream press covers it.

I was one of the fools who bought GTA4 for PS3. So glad I will be able to play the two DLC packs via the standalone 360 disc.

Anyway, IW may want to have a read of this article after the embarrassing Friends Against Grenade Spam viral which was kicking around a couple of days back...

It's interesting how I'm seeing a lot more ads for Episodes from than for Gay Tony itself...

GTA4 was a disappointment. I'm waiting for Agent. This time Rockstar won't be held back by weak hardware and DVD9 because it's a PS3 exclusive.

4 - Good article
I also felt Rockstar did a great job not turning Tony into a typical Gay stereotype.

5 - Contrary to the belief, Gay Tony looks pretty slick....
I enjoyed the gameplay trailers and I believed GTAIV should've been like that from the start instead of collecting dust in my shelf.

Crazy how--in 2009--there still aren't many realistic gay characters in games. Great article.

Anyone else surprised when they heard that you don't actually play as Gay Tony? Color me disappointed. Still a step in the right direction, though.

8.1 - Way harsh
Just be happy that they did such a good job of handling a gay character, that's a huge step for gaming in general.

i got GTA4 on PS3 and bought Episodes from LC yesterday.
missions and other stuffs are great it was fun i just wish GTA4 was included all missions guns cars and both 3 story line by just switching character from wardrobe hehe. anyway i like it both GTA4 & Episodes from LC (included both TL&TD and BoGT) but comparing to San Andreas it was graphically one step forward sadly gameplay was two step backward.....

I love the trailer. Quite a ballsy title if you ask me. I heart Rockstar
