GamePro: Sony's Weapons: 9 Promising New Games for PS3 and PSP

In response to this recent surge in new PlayStation 3 owners, and in anticipation of what will no doubt be a steady rate of growth for the platform (particularly if it maintains an average of 100,000 units sold each week throughout the Holiday season) GamePro takes a look at the games that Sony is publishing itself to boost the overall PlayStation brand further. In this hands-on report with nine different first-party titles, they talk to producer Petro Piaseckyj about Quantic Dream's ambitious Heavy Rain, and they look at the novel EyePet virtual toy, which features one of the most inventive uses for the EyeToy. They also take a look at some PS3 favorites that are making their way to the PSP very soon.

When I see 9 new games I'm looking for PS3 games not PSP. All they need to do is say 6 PSP games and 3 PS3 games. It just annoys me when handhelds titles are used to make a console list appear expanded.

Despite being able to download PSP titles over the PS3 it doesn't mean it's in the same category.

One thing for sure, I REALLY think Sony needs to get WKC out the door in the West sometime in Jan./Feb. before the March release of GOW3 and GT5... those games are all different genre's and will have different appeal, but I think the release of GOW3 and GT5 will totally eclipse WKC's release if it comes too close to them, and that's not even including big Multiplat. releases like Dante's Inferno, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Bioshock 2, etc. in Q1 2010... good luck with WKC Sony.

I'm not sure why GamePro chose these particular games as "Secret Weapons", because I think most of these games will have somewhat of a "niche" appeal, but I know for sure I'm getting Heavy Rain. It's good to see Sony has showed the PSP more support with these games listed and more 3rd party support for the PSP lately.

Well, Gamepro is talking about secret weapons, so they're probably referring to these games because even though they are very high quality, they don't get as much exposure as Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, etc. Heavy Rain looks to be very high quality, but I doubt it will be as high-profile as GOW.

All GTs sell around 10 million each. GT5p sold close to 4 million and it was demo. It's safe to say GT5 will be the PS3's best selling game (8-9 million)

24 - The Tide has shifted in favor of the PS3...

...but do you guys think that it will shift back again to the 360 by the end of this console generation? I have all 3, so it really doesn't matter to me. But it seems like things are eerily quiet on the 360 front right now. I know they've got Halo Reach, Splinter Cell, and the Fable franchise...perhaps Alan Wake can be considered on their list...but when do all those games hit the street? And, are Sony's offerings going to be around the same time? If so, THEN it'd make for some REALLY interesting competition. Towards the end of this console generation, I'm really hoping it becomes the playoffs and PS3 and 360 start throwing everything at each other. That'd be awesome...for us, the gamers :D

its cheaper than a PC GPU, games can be run without tweaking or installing or downloading the new DIRECTX, or physx, or some weird dll. It just works. It has a good controller, great online feature and tons of games. It is always modifiable and linux and homebrew already run on it, unline the new slim.

Also its pretty bad that the 360 exclusives (which is also on the pc) absoloutely smash them little bitty sony exclusives in sells. Its common sense the 360 is the more popular console out there right now (atleast more popular than the ps3).
