Neocrisis: Should Console Gamers Support MW2 Boycott?

Neocrisis: The recent debacle over Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's lack of dedicated servers has many PC gamers up in arms. The question is should the console gamers join in the boycott?

1 - YESS
I totally think we should.. Cos this is not about PC gamers being screwed, its about a FELLOW gamer getting the short end of the stick. And if IW continues with their communist regime, what guarantee is there that they will not impose the same upon us one day? Think ppl...

1.2 - I have a question in retort.....
As PS3 owner, Are PC gamers willing to boycott Valve for their treatment of PS3 owners?

1.3 - @1.2 In response....
As a PS3 owner and main console gamer the issues are not the same. valve deciding not to support the PS3 does not change the community for the PS3 it doesn't change anything about the PS3 it only gives us 1 less game to play but the overall community for the PS3 remains untouched and the same.

In this case IW is changing what the PC community has been known for at least 15 years. A P2P only online game is not common ground for the PC community, and the move is not for the better. Clans, players, tournament holders, everyone in the PC community for the better part of online gaming for PC has counted on dedicated servers to run the game in the most efficient way possible. Now what? they have to rely on something that is not super efficient and can cause nothing but frustration for its users, does "Host has ended match" sound familiar?
Something as simple as one player losing connection or unplugging his connection means the difference between enjoyment and frustration. The PC has always been superior in online play because of Dedicated server support, random users and PC organizers rent servers for the enjoyment of many, while on console if the host is getting owned thats usually when the fun ends for everyone.

I feel as a gamer we have to help support a community that is in danger of unfair treatment. This issue would be like a third party buying out sony's online service and start charging us for it. That will be that last time I play a game online, I refuse to pay for something that I can get for free on another platform. I will stick to PC gaming only if sony started charging for online play.

1.4 - Yes console gamers should join the boycott for at least 1 very important reason...
Dedicated servers.

How many times have I gotten all amped up to play a few rounds of MW1 and just when the match is about to end... "Host left Game". So I go into the next lobby, talk a little prematch hype, map loads, then... "Host left Game". So I tried it one more time, this time the map begins to load up just seconds after I hit the lobby. This time everything goes fine and the match is underway. I turn the corner to find some jerk is lag switching, or using a glitch to pawn the room, or even worse... call in air support and choppers out of nowhere!!! >=(

Dedicated servers effect both PC and console gamers, so yes we should join the boycott. As gamers we can sign pettitions, write blogs and comments from now until the second coming, but if we really want to be heard we are left with only on real weapon... Our Wallets. Just as we can get developers to respond to bad games when they spell poorly, we can get them to respond to bad policies using the same tactics. We have a choice to make this fall, to buy or not to buy. "To Buy" will be saying that we will whore ourselves out and buy anything with enough hype, but "Not to Buy" will be like dropping a megaton bomb on Activisions corp HQ stating that we are not mindless droids and bots.

So which will it be ladies and gentlemen, To Buy or Not to Buy?

Thanks to Activision I'll be burning my copy....sorry Infinity Ward...you can blame Kotick, for without all his unscrupulous business practices I would happily run out and pay full price for it. Well played Bobby.

If I played it on the PC I would think about it. but I am sure it will play great on Xbox Live..

I just pre-Ordered it and can't WAIT!!!

On Xbox360 I could lobby up with my friends with a simple invite and get put right into the action with us all on the same team.

If it was a clan match we created a Private Match and sent out invites.

It's all really to simple for a console gamer to think they're getting screwed.

CoD4 played great on Xbox Live and matches you with people around your rank if you plan to play it solo.

I'm going to be enjoying this with millions once it drops on consoles and I am 100% sure I won't be disappointed.

7 - I wasn't going to buy it anyway....
the first one was okay after about two months....i liked the single player though. So to answer the question at hand...i'll be supporting my wallet and fellow PC gamers and saying no to COD:MW2.

Cheers

why would console gamers care, they are mainly (not all but most on this site) a bunch of trolls who use every opportunity to insult others who are not on their preferred system with no common sense or logic. kinda like religous nuts. they don't care, they will actually be happy for some idiotic twisted reason even though it doesn't affect them one bit. then they will preach: "just another reason to make the move to consoles", not even considering that people do what they want to do and not what others want them to do.

I'm already boycotting all Activision games.

They're irrelevent these days, there's better options out there for every game they've released in the past year.

Was going to buy it for PC since I can get it on the hook up but at this point no. When I played CoD4 their were about 3 servers I would regular because they offered the best experience for me, but without dedicated servers there will be no point. Plus I dont like the meager 18 player cap they have for consoles, which will most likely be the new cap for the PC version since p2p won't offer the performance of a dedicated server. Depending on map I like 24-32 player caps, it just feels more chaotic, like a real battle but from the safety of my own home. IW could've taken a stand for the PC gamers but instead they have taken on their Publisher personality, IWnet is just a way to micromanage their product to insure that who is playing it plays it the way IW intended which is not how the franchise got as huge as it is. The PC community made Call of Duty a success the Console market made it a sell out, making it more about cashing in than fun. F*CK IW and ACTIVISION.
