Microsoft's Wave 4 protection system for 360 hacked

Disney Pixar's latest game Car O Rama, which is the first game to feature Microsoft's Wave 4 protection has already been cracked. The game launched last Friday, and it has taken less than a week to crack.
Updates:
The alt source is not an alt source, it is related only to the copy protection, not the breaking of it, which is the point of this article.

This story, although about the copy protection of a game, is not about the game, which is why the 'related games' link was not added.

May as well head off the comment section, with my powers of foresight i predict 90% of the comments to consist of: "this wouldn't happen on ps3", with a sprinkling of "microst sucks", followed by an equal portion of "ps3 ftw", and champ21 will copy paste a complete list of the prices of computer components...

"Microsoft copy protection Sucks : )" fixed

Although they are one of the most greedy company's out there they do make some decent products (even if they might be prone to failure)

1.6 - @xoxideu
not that anyone listens to xoxideu anyway, but he's the worst kind of troll, the kind that can't back up his claim, he went on a rant about how "vista sucks" the other day and in the process proved that he doesn't even have vista. He probably doesn't even have a pc. What do you play little boy?, tamagochi?

How did I prove that I don't have vista?

because I said it's chock full of bugs and errors?

because its the truth?

vista is a broken piece of shovelware, that I'm glad I didn't have to pay for since it came with my pc

**is your brain functioning? if I don't have a pc then how am I on this website right now?

i will say xbox makes a very good platform to test the games for free before they are bought for the pc ;-) i see no reason to pay micrsoft taxes for low res game.

the ones microsoft denies to pc.. i will shamelessly pirate them on the box :P

@1.11 - Please show me a link where it says the PS3 is hacked and can play backup games on a standard PS3.

If you are talking about the Belzar hack, that was fake. Sony learned from their mistakes on PSP, PS1, PS2. PS3 is almost unhackable, it'll probably get hacked 9 years into the systems lifecycle, when it doesn't matter any more.

First for all you DON'T crack xbox 360 games. Wave4 is a new data in the xbox 360 game discs that can't be recognize by the ixtreme firmware. This custom firmware needs to upgrade to be fully compatible with the new data. Right now you can use the active.iso burned in a DL disc to swap it with the games that have wave4.

Thanks for the lesson in piracy. Get a job and you won't need to steal software. What needs to happen is that they need to make punishment for hacking and virus creation so severe that once you get caught, you'll never be seen again.

Morons.

Hey now, I'm using Win7 Pro and I don't see it "falling to pieces" anytime soon. Give Microsoft some kudos where it is most earned.

Microsoft should just get rid of the security. I've heard it takes up to 2 gigs on the disc, and since it doesn't even work against modders, then why not just remove the security and give the developers an extra 2 gigs to work with?

Maybe when MS starts showing some respect to consumers they'll get some back :)

It's not a given, but I mean having "the asshole" role in the corporation world can't be helping you much.

10 - It's not an anti-piracy measure.
As stated in the last article about wave 4.

This is NOT AN ANTI-PIRACY FIX.

This is simply the newest patch bundled with the game. Every game disk comes with the latest OS update for the 360. It's for the people that doesn't connect their xbox to live. So if a game uses a new feature in the new OS then it has to make sure the 360 has the correct update and doesn't crash or something.

The cracked DVD firmware of the modded xbox 360's will not allow disks with unknown data like this new patch to boot in order to protect the console from banning. If the pirate for instance burns a bad copy. It's a side-effect from the piracy security.

M$ doesn't really care. They just ban a couple thousand console every november to boost their xmas sales.
