Well, I stopped paying for LIVE when it was only 5 bucks a month. If this happens, I'll just stick to PC gaming. By my logic, if Microsoft decides to raise the price of XBL to 100 bucks, this will give Sony enough breathing room to put a membership price on PSN. Maybe Sony will start charging 1 dollar a month for PSN, and then people will say it is worth it because it's just as good as LIVE and only a fraction of the cost.

I really don't want this to happen, but it makes sense that if Microsoft were charging 100 bucks a year for LIVE, Sony would end up charging some dough as well. Think about what kind of revenue Sony could bring in if they charged one buck a month for PSN.

24 million active PSN accounts, let's bring that down to 17 million to get rid of multiple-account people.

17 million times 12 bucks a year equals $204,000,000.

That's an extra 200 million bucks that Sony could make off of PSN. As of right now, PSN is free. But if Microsoft charges an even higher fee for LIVE, expect Sony to go the same way.

, but not completely unthinkable. If you look at what they do to the people that wholeheartedly support them, and then see the blind loyalty that follows. Why wouldn't they do something like that, especially if they manage to spin it in such a fashion that the consumers get sucked in without being the wiser. To the wary, they absolutely would do it, the second they realize that they could get away with it (scary, huh?). That's not to say any other company wouldn't do it, too (after all it's all about the money).

Ehhhh on second thought I stick to the free PSN that is just as good but minus a few minor features to me. I'd rather play for free and pay to download then anything.

I don't think it'll happen. $50.00 is hard enough to justify, to double it would be tough. I personally wouldn't pay $100 a year for XBL. Now if they added another Account like a platinum and included better servers I would have to punch MS in the face! Ok I'm going back to Uncharted MP!

I asked 3 co-workers, who only have the xbox, if you could play games online on "live" for free, but all the "extra" stuff on "live" i.e. cross game chat-party invites-premium themes-dlc-early etc still would be 40-50$ a year,would they pay da money?... they all said h... no!

I would have payed a total of $150 so far just to use online multiplayer, a feature that should be unlocked when you purchase a game. I don't know how Xbox 360 owners deal with it.

the only way i can see this working is if multiplayer goes free(silver) and they include some more value to a gold subscription. for example gold users will have access to everything netflix, facebook, twitter, last.fm, 1vs100, party chat, and a few more services considering its an additional $50/yr.

Considering it's this guy's job to get this stuff right, it's alarming how infrequently his predictions come true. The fact that Pachter says it will double in price leads me to believe it will eventually be free.

Obviously at $100/yr. Live would offer much more than its current state. Maby cable tv channels, video conferencing globally through natal to PC's and video phones, enhanced graphics like with "onLive", ...who knows.

Maybe it will be Live Silver: Free, Live Gold: $50/yr., Live Platinum: $100/yr. Perhaps this is for the Xbox 3.
