The difference between the two Niers

Xbox 360 owners here in Japan are getting Nier Gestalt. PS3 owners are getting Nier Replicant. What's the difference between these two?

Square Enix hasn't been particularly forthcoming on the differences. But this month's Famitsu Xbox 360 provides some answers.

"that Nier Gestalt, the Japanese Xbox 360 version of the game, is basically the international version of Nier. In other words, it's the version that PS3 and Xbox 360 owners outside of Japan will be getting"

I'd rather see the Replicant version of Nier come to NA. I like the look of Nier in Replicant more than in Gestalt.

Either way, the new screenshots coming in are really getting me excited about this game. I'm just happy that it's not one of those Japan-only things... and we can always import! There are plenty of fiends for this kind of stuff, and we'll see at least text translations online stateside.

I agree I like the look of replicate better as well. I think they are getting to caught up in this whole lets do what we think appeals to everyone else thing.

Basically Japan gets to play with a shim (aka he she), and the rest of the world gets to play as a Brute.

So basically Japan gets the good version of the game as it was intended while the US gets the roided out meat head version which obviously we all love because Gears is so popular.

I really hope they bring Replicant to the US it's the more appealing version and I would think quite a few would think that way.

Reibooi how is Replicant the way it was intended? The Gestalt version is the original one and also the proper one. It's more like Japanese PS3 owners are getting a bishounen pretty boy because that's so popular.

I like both designs personally. I like the older, uglier Nier because he's not an idealised hero. The Replicant version looks pretty damn cool though.

Well i guess it's a matter of taste , wich is why it's nice from SE to at least give choices around the world ...

However it's not that i want bishies or george clooney , i just so far dislike his design and mutt .

Geralt from the witcher is hardly the perfect and altruistic hero of many game (at least if you want) , he isnt pretty and look older with his hair .

And for that he doesnt need to show me stereotypically huge muscle , with nipple instead of cloth and armor . I just happens to find that ugly (again regardless of the quality of the game , wich i'll probably enjoy) .

Again you dont have to either be quasimodo with hulk's muscle , or a young girl's favorite china porcelaine doll .

I think SE needs to pull their heads out of their a$$ here. This game in general seems like it's going to be niche so they may as well bring the version of the game that the majority of that niche crowd would prefer--Replicant.

I'm not worrying about Gestalt at all. I'm only solely interested in the PS3 only Replicant version, because it has better art style choices for the characters.

Free money on the table Square to just bring that game over here with only English subtitles...we don't even need the USA voice acting. It'll sell, but I doubt SE employees come to N4G to learn how to make money. :/

@SpoonyRedMage

Yeah I guess I worded that kinda odd. My point was that Replicant is the version that alot would see as the original version because it's the far more Japanese of the two and coming from a Japanese company that makes sense. Gestalt to me reeks of lets try to make a game appeal to everyone when it's not a good idea to do that.

They both look pretty good(Granted they still need alot of work to look great but they have alot of potential) I just think the version I would like better(Replicant) should be coming out as well and hey maybe it will at some point.

Called it a while ago.

I'm not 100% sure why they didn't just make one game with two protagonists. This sounds silly.

tss i'll probably play both , but i'd rather have access to Replicant .

I love the idea of having an older hero but i dont want such a ugly mutt wrapped in a shape of musclor/Conan ... but rather an actually cool yet mature looking hero like Geralt from the Witcher .

Aside from the game that's actually a very aggravating and general issue . Western and japanese editor alike rarely find some middle ground for heroes , between young and often angrogyne heroes , or weirdly designed old marines or musclor/conan/kalidor clones .

right now i can only think of a few games like Devil may cry , prince of persia and in the rpg field , The Witcher , who tried some enutral field .

hell Dante inferno soon is a missed opportunity imho in that area . Dante is basically a scholar and poet with some combat experience ... he didnt need to be the usual gladiator design with chainmail ... he could have been something less rip , subtle and more true to the source .

Ps : it's no dig or attack at any of the mentioned game , it's just a bit sad and non creative

3.1 - time to import
"The Japanese version of the game will be like this, with English voices and Japanese subtitles."

Thanks ... If i see more videos , i guess i'll no choice but to import it .. (weird since you will see 100% of the story only if you play both sides )

Nier in Replicant looks a bit too much like Raiden. Also, why do so many Japanese video game characters have white hair way too young?

Well i could go in depth as to WHY exactly they have white hair but nah dont feel like it SO ill just leave it to your imagination. Just know that it has to do with a very traumatizing scene that he saw when he was a wee boy. It has to do with his parents and the dinner table.......

8.1 - It's region specific
Well, that pretty much sums up gamers from Japan and the U.S. Japanese and American weaboos (anime junkies who prefer their anime with subs only and are annoying PS3 love slaves) prefer their men looking like women (or in this case, the woman is a man) and American gamers like their characters buffed up, pissed off, and like to smash things.

9 - Whatever happened to just wanting the game to be good?
And if the two versions are going to be different, does this mean that they won't scale down the PS3 version this time?
