Why Sony Should Bring the Ico Collection to PS3
53
AC: Sony angered many perspective buyers when they decided to remove backwards compatibility of Playstation 2 games from the newer
Playstation 3 models. However, the recently announced God of War Collection, which composes of enhance Playstation 2 ports for the Playstation 3, brings new hope. One of the most requested games hoping to receive the same treatment as the God of War Collection is Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

because ico is the best game ever made. im 13 and i was lucky enough to experience ico because my dad is a gamer and he own both ico and shadow of the collosus. never gotten into shadow of the collosus. i didnt like it, because their was no relationship between the main character and his horse. in ico, theres a relationship between yorda and ico. you can see the relationship. ico and yorda holding hands while running away from monsters, ico and pulling yorda from that dark portal, ico protected yorday from those monsters and when you save the game. ico and yorday sit on a couch.. XD awww. how can anyone not like that part of ico.

1.2 - Spoilers
I might had played another SotC but I am pretty sure the horse and the main character had a close relationship. Obviously not a bestiality type of thing going on but damn, Agro helped him with a couple of Colossi. Not to mention that he also was the main way of transportation to take him towards the colossi. And at the ending, when he fell off the bridge.... tell me he wasn't saddened when he fell.
At least Agro was more useful than just being a key to open doors. (Yorda)
Anyways, SotC was all about the main character and his quest to revive Mono. It was about the boy and the girl, not the boy and the horse.

1.4 - Its hard to disagree with you because you were young when you played SOTC
However, i was 25 when i played SOTC and i tell you there is an emotional realationship. The key is in the animation of argo. This is why i respect Ueda so much. He is able to convey emotion in such a subltle way compare to his peers.

As much as I like those games, I don't think it's as necessary as remastering/rereleasing God of War I and II. The games mentioned in the article are not part of any trilogy. The upcoming Last Guardian doesn't require any familiarity with the background story, while God of War III can be much more appreciated with the background knowledge of God of War I and II.
But I'll be there to buy those games if they do decide to rerelease them in high definition. =D

1.7 - I never played Ico or Shadow of the colossus even though I had a ps2
So this would be a good time for me to jump in. It would be nice to play these in hd and get some trophies while I'm at it. I never played Kingdom hearts either. Damn. What was I doing? Oh yeah... Tekken.
Its so funny how much the ps3 has gotten better over the past couple of years. I initially hated this generation of gaming because things were not going too well, but I think I'm starting to warm up to it. Good to be a gamer.

Last Guardian will by itself garner a lot of people who want to play it. It's a good method to capitalize on interest in Last Guardian by releasing the previous works to those curious. Free money is always good.
I for one will gladly buy an enhanced version of those two games for 40 dollars and I hope it too will have a demo like the God of War collection is. :)

Well it seems there is a good possibility it will happen. Speaking to Kotaku:
"I do have an interest in that," Ueda said during our Friday chat. "Next week, I'll have a meeting [about the possibility] ... But it might not be so easy, because, with both titles we really stretched the limits of the PS2. It's complex. So it's not such an easy transfer to the PS3. But I want to discuss it."

As much as I want a remastered version of their old games, Id rather have a speedier release of the Last Guardian. I already have both games so I can wait. If this game does turn out to be released in Fall 2010, it'll turn out to be the longest developed SCE game of all time since Gran Turismo.

Having both the God of War Collection and the Ico Collection available for the PS3 would be very big stepping stones in the advancement of finally emulating all of the PS2 games onto its successor. I plan on purchasing every collection that comes out. Here's hoping this particular collection is made into a reality.

Isn't MS doing the EXACT same thing? I'm pretty sure you can download Xbox games on the 360, so I don't see how you can spin this into a "Sony is really just screwing you over" situation.
In fact, so far the only collections being discussed are of the highest quality games as combination packs with improvements to graphics and adding trophies (which would get like 3x more replay value per game, even though I've played ICO and SotC countless times already).
It sounds like a great idea to me. If this is what Sony sodomizing me feels like, I'm not sure I want them to stop.

I wonder how long the GOW bluray collection took to make. Because I would want a ICO bluray ASAP. Hope it can be done quickly.
And they could market it by saying if you missed out on some of the best games the PS2 had to offer, well here is your chance to play them!

Sony should bring the collection to the PS3 simply because not enough people got to experience these games... if it wasn't for those "Jampack demo discs" and Demo Discs that came with the Official Playstation magazine, I probably wouldn't have played either Ico or SoTC last gen. either because that's how I discovered both games.
I still own and I've played both Ico and SoTC countless times over, but just Trophies and High Definition alone is more than enough justification for me to Repurchase it.

I'd rather Sony just perfected PS2 emulation and allowed the PS3 to upscale everything really nicely with fancy texture filtering and such. Basically like a good PC emulator is capable of.
Then we'd be able to play all the great PS2 games that we WANT to play and gives sony a wonderful excuse to re-release them.

Sony should definately take advantage of their back catalogue on the PS2, some incredible games on there that so many gamers would happily play again in 720p + trophies. PS2 is the greatest console of all time a reason, you know :P

This would be a fantastic move by Sony.
I'm one of the many who didn't get a chance to experience Ico and SotC, who would gladly pay $40 first day to get a chance to play them in HD with trophies.
Keep the collections coming Sony, cause I know I'm not the only one who will buy these. It's one thing to re-release them, but with what they're doing for God of War, and possibly Ico, they're going above and beyond a re-release. Brilliant.
