I think Cross Treasures is definitely one of the new IPs he's referring to. It's utilising the built in audiences of V-Jump and Square Enix fans and has a successful manga artist as the art designer. It could do very well for itself.

With each new FF on the newest gen console, there have been spikes in sales. Typically they sell very well and this one, being multi plat will do far better than 6 million. I suspect to see at least 8 to 8.5.

I think 6 million is pretty good.These days there are so many games to chose from, and people are slowly starting to like more Western made games.In Japan it will sell alot but when it comes out next year [English version plus others] there will be lots of other games to chose like GOW 3, GT5, Bayonetta, MassEffect 2, etc. These days are just too many games on the Market to chose from [thats a good and bad thing].

I think it's as good an estimate as they can possibly make right now when the know nothing about their market at all. Do they know how FF will sell on a MS platform? No. Do they have any idea if they have a fanbase on the PS3? Well IDK, they haven't given the platform a single game yet so that's a shavy one as well when it comes to guessing sales.

Even though it's a multi does that mean anything? FFXii had a HUGE PS2 user base to sell to didn't it? Yes, so why assume FF13 will sell as well as or better with fewer PS360 gamers worldwide than there wer just PS2 gamers last time round?

They have to hope they didn't really upset too many of those gamers who bought their PS3 on the promises of FF exclusivity AND that there's just as big a desire for the game on the shooter fan haven of the western 360 userbase. We'll see-it could go through the roof with great reviews and if everuone stays loyal OR, with some poor reviews and a few tech issues AND the very lon dev process could find a much reduced fanbase among the even now smaller multiplat install base this generation.

So 6million-unreasonable or just about the best guess SE could make? Time and the quality of the game will tell but I doubt the long wait has helped any to keep hype going as well as a shorter one would have.

The sales of SE's flagship franchises have been dropping after the first release on the Playtstation. FFVII was their best selling game ever and DQVII was second only to DQIII but with each subsequent entry they've been selling less.

I think DQIX was a big test and it kind of proved that SE have had their priorities straight this generation(not talking about putting games on the 360, that's just stupid). DQIX has shipped over four million in Japan alone and is expected to reach five million. It's going to be the best selling Dragon Quest of them all and it's already the 14th best selling game in Japan of all time.

SE's support of the DS has been justified especially when DQIX was probably cheaper to make than DQVIII which means they got even more profit.

Lets see how FF Gaiden does, it might not sell as many copies as FFXIII but it could still potentially bring in more profit for SE.

It won't be $100 in the US. That's only the Japanese MSRP, and even a lot of Japanese stores are selling it for closer to $70 US. In the States it will be the regular $60 (more for a limited edition obviously).

That being said, I'd gladly fork over $100 of Christmas money for import if Square puts English subs in the Japanese release. Which they won't. *sigh*

You greatly underestimate the popularity of the Final Fantasy series around the rest of the world. Sales are usually split more like 35% Japan, 30% US and 30% Europe. FF10 sold around 8 million copies, 3 mill in Japan, 2.5 mill in the US and 2.5 mill in Europe. Peter Moore (when he was still with MS) was asked back in 2k7 E3 which franchise he would like to see on the 360. His first answer was Mario and his second choice was Final Fantasy and with good reason. It's kind of funny that MS did eventually get FF on 360 but after Moore left.

I concur to the quality going down. Lucious graphics and nice music will not do it this time.

I am aware it will sell. But I hope it doesnt. FF versus XIII is made more in my liking. FF versus XIII has something non-mainstream ballony romantic obnoxiousness I think FF XIII will end up being.

[edit] That is, FF XIII will be without passion and soul (like X-2 and XII). Why is that? Well, for starters it looks so bland without grit. Just a bunch of characters showing off like if it was american idol or something.

Why would versus pan out better? I think Nomuras free roaming of making it will shine through. So far it has pleased me.

I would imagine it will sell more than 6 mil. Just look Halo 3: ODST, it has sold over 2 mil already, who knows how much in its lifetime. And I think, dare I say, that FF is much more popular than Halo. (Worldwide anyway)

Yopu think? Hasn't Halo3 sold more this gen than FF7 has altogether since release on PS1 way back to it's PSN release recently?

Seriously, pretty much every US 360 will have a copy of a Halo game in it at some point and it's the same in Oz and the UK. Yes FF is a huge series(esp in the east)but even so do not underestimate just how popular Halo is-it's already kept two MS consoles going! I also think Halo fans are possibly MORE loyal than SE fans as Bungie haven't messed them about while SE seems to rebel in doing so AND rising prices for FF releases where it's most popular and one day these practises wil hurt them and their sales.

I'd go so far as to say that Halo is prolly a little more opular worldwide then FF is these days-ODST really hasn't got the same level of new content that any other Halo release has uet it's selling JUST like a main series numvered release would and if SE released a similar package half full of already available material would it sell like a normal FF numbered release? I very much doubt it.

Don't get me wrong as a fan of both series I'd say I'm still more af a F fan but I just don't think there are more like me than there are those who would either prefer Halo/only like Halo. This gen there hasn't beena FF or a GT to compare with Halo so I/we cannot be certain but I'd be surprised should FF13 outsell Halo3 even though it's on two platforms this time out. On PS3 and 360 up to now Halo is the biggest seller and by some distance(nothing on either PS3 or 360 comes very closet 360's bigest seller-only COD competes really as a multiplat)-but we'll see.

360 + Ps3 = around 56 million consoles, only about half as much as when FF12 was released.

Its Final Fantasy....the king of JRPGs. You don't put those games in the same categories as other JRPGs. Final Fantasy is in another league altogether when it comes to popularity.

The 360 + the ps3 are currently at something like 56 million, so its still only half the install base that FF12 had.

It will be the first next gen FF, so we'll have to see if that makes an impact or not. The game will probably be the best selling home console RPG for this gen to date, but that's not saying much is it? It could top out at 4 mil or so, due to the still low install base for 360/PS3.

Will it have the same effect as X and VII did? I guess we'll see.

It will make the six million but the majority will be in Japan. Going multiplatform will not increase sales that much but just spread the sales over the two platforms instead. I say the PS3 will have the advantage in the west due to the late release date. There will be more PS3's by that time and people will be used to playing Final Fantasy on the Playstation. Secondly Mass Effect 2 will be out near the time as well and a large amount of people prefer WRPG's to JRPG's on the 360.

Well, for now it wont.
Going multi is kind of a damage control for SE.
They make sure the sales can be up to standards by bringing them out on both consoles.

Cause theres not enough Ps3's around in comparison with the ps2, to guarantee that the sales wont plunge, would it remain exclusive.

I also Prefer Mass effect, but it wont stop me from getting FF13 tho.

If not a little low but, it's probably because they are taking into consideration all the different games that will be on the market at the time of release, coupled with the fact that there hasn't been a overabundance of RPG,s released on the ps3 this generation.

I Dont know Square You stabbed alot of people in the back by putting FF13 on 360. FF is a Playstation franchise yeh I know it started with nintendo but if it wasn't for Playstation FF wouldn't be as famous as it is. The 360 has Halo and Gears, leave our FF alone, it belongs only on Playstation. now that being said FF13 will be a benchmark for future RPG's to come and Square Damn you, you know you have an excellent dev. team behind FF, so Damn you for taking so long.

14 - i think it'll be fine... it is exclusive in japan, and the next big title thats most wanted for japan

so the concentration and marketing effort will be there from both sony. sony has a 3.5-4 million install base in japan... in launch week the game will be the fastest selling PS3 title gauranteed for japan. over the subsequent months that follow it'll continue to sell and then platueu in japan. it'll sell for about 3 months in japan if that. it'll also tip the scale for the ps3 and probably get the console to break 5 million maybe 6 million. so by the time the the game hits the US market, the title should just be cracking 4 million sold. upon state side release. PS3 fans will scoop it up. it'll sell 2 million within the first month on that platform, maybe even 3, and xbox fans depending on Masseffect and other games, a new call of duty and halo reach the game may just sell 1.5-2 million so it'll be interesting who knows they may just surpass expectations and this may sell 10 million in. apart from FF7, the only other console game from square to do that is kindom hearts, as both 1 and 2 have sold 9-11 million in it's life time. it sold slow initially but quickly picked up. and to the person that Said Halo is more popular than FF... LOL!!!! FF became popular on the nintendo platforms and have had subsequent remakes, re-releases, and new entries each breaking 5 million sold with every remake, re-release and new entry... with the pinacle being FF7 with 10 million.. the franchise on a whole is a multibillion dollar franchise, thats why square has sooo many ff games... halo with it's 5 entry's soon 6 has sold about 40 million copies as a franchise, thats not bad, but that's 90% NA sales FF is Global... they stand over 80 million+ sold from just ninty platfomrs alone, we dont have to put playstation and xbox together.

still square expectations are good. thats a decent amount for a highly anticipated multiplat Megaton RPG from Square.. it's right in line with all there other big rpgs on the PS2... and PS1. they'll get that number.. but it'll be interesting to see if the game reaches those austouding upper trough numbers, the 10, 12, 15 million sold like shooters of today.. namely COD4, Halo, and GTA4.

you guys are forgetting that people will buy PS3's and 360's on launch day. So yes it's 56 million now, but by the time it's released. When the data comes in, it should shift consoles. Unless it gets the GTAIV effect.

The majority of sales will be on the PS3.

No FFXIV for the bots until 2011 and no VersusXIII period so why get the game on the 360 or a 360 for the game?

Honestly I think the game will do about 4-5 and maybe 6 million over a long long time. No JRPG has done that well this generation. I do have hope for this game though, it looks good.

MGS did 5 million with not much install base, arguably there should be more FF fans than MGS fans IMO. it should be able to break that just on PS3 alone over time. Initial month, i doubt it
