I threw up when I read the title of the article.

I'm genuinely sad about the direction gaming takes. It feels cheap and boring , and I don't think having no button at all a good thing. Not only the tools used for gaming but the games aswell , I didn't like a lot of the games this gen and I really think Natal isn't going to help.
I remember a time when gaming was about exploration , skill , strategy ,challenge. Not all games had this but it was different. Most games this gen are about innovation and graphics.
I am sad.

Voice command can easily replace menu-driven controls in RPGs and RTSs (as proven with End War) that are normally mapped to cramped controllers. In an FPS game it could be used for interacting with NPCs and environment context features (like light switches).

Motion tracking can be used in scope/zoom views as you aim, instead of mapping that to the 2nd analog. It can also be used for gesture recognition (like Minority Report) in video editing and splitting of clips (like how Cruise navigates the precog composite feedback).

It's true that Natal won't replace the controller...but who ever said that it has to? The two can be fused together to make one awesome experience. Afterall it's pretty much just a machine interpreting your movements and voice commands, it's not like you have to put down the controller to use it.

Face it : Natal cannot be used to play hardcore games. Could you play Quake 3 Arena with Natal? You better not, because God would probably kill you for doing that.

Natal can be used for small "let's try something with motion controls!" games. Party games, for example. It's just not versatile/precise/fast enough to play hardcore games.

None of those functions even utilize Natal to the fullest (that is, those functions don't rely on 3D spacial tracking). All of that stuff could be done with the Playstation Eye.

You know what i personally think would be the savour of gaming, lowering the frigging prices of a damn game. were i live in canada it's 69.99 plus tax for a new game.... almost 80$ after tax.... that's personally what's been slowing me down on gaming, i wait now until games are old and cheap and less people play online so it's no fun... lower the game prices back down to like 50$ and i'd be the happiest gamer.

Either a mouse or IR pointer is pretty much necessary to control a FPS in any reasonably way. Unless you like tap...tap...tapping the analog sticks to death. Dual analog threatens to kill hardcore games as it stands.

Sony's EyeToy games didn't save the PS2, i don't see how Natal can save gaming. How many players can afford to play standing up in a large space?
Most of players play in a small area, sat down or onto their bed. Plus, they tend to be lazy arses. Moving to play? No way, they prefer smashing buttons lying down. There is no place for innovation in hardcore gaming.

The PSeye is a camera with a simple recognition for one person in front of the camera. It doesn’t track 48 points in the human body for four persons at the same time. Just let that get to you for a moment. It tracks 48 different points in a body, times four, in 3D that is. It can recognize people, even if someone walks in front of Natal while playing, the hard- and software is smart enough to calculate what the playing person looks like missing some vision on that person. It recognizes facial expression, it records and recognizes voices. It can scan objects, like a drawing on a paper in no time shown in the Milo video on E3. It has a groundbreaking sensor that combines an RGB camera, depth sensor, multi-array microphone and custom processor.

most those games you mentioned wont use natal, its not meant for every game. with a bit of imagination that you clearly do not have fps can work on natal too, simple things like reach out and twist your wrist to open a door, or a game like socom put your hand up to stop your crew or wave them on. little thing like that will make great games for those of us that will not let go of the controller.

think of it as an add on to controls not a replacement of the controller and maybe you imagination will kick in a bit..

its just amazing on how clueless you sony fanatics are about natal, like i said go watch the video on live im sure you know someone with a 360..
