Are you ready for the PS4 and Xbox 720?

Maybe the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720, while still possible, might not make their way to store shelves for quite some time. It makes sense. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are network- and HD-ready. Thanks to firmware upgrades, the hardware companies can release incremental improvements to keep the consoles alive and well.

Since the future is both online and in HD, what makes an Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 so important?
Moreover, developers face some real challenges when a new console is released. They need to learn how to exploit the hardware, which tends to lengthen development and cost the company more cash. And even though the Xbox 720 or PlayStation 4 might be able to provide Pixar-like graphics, that might be far too expensive for developers, causing most companies to balk at going that far with graphical prowess. While most gamers might want more from their consoles, sometimes, it's just not financially feasible.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of my nextgen console, so no thanks.

I don't need a PS4 or xbox720 today, tomorrow or even 3 years from now.

we won't see the ps4 or 720 for awhile yet, there is a lot that can be added just from firmware updates...

for ps4 no

for xnox 720 yes because 360 reach its limits already and cant offer much new things other than different stories of the same games!

1.5 - Yes, I'm ready. Just make sure the initial buy in price is low enough to justify the new technology
I prefer a shorter life cycle (or should I say console introduction cycle) at a lower release cost. This is similar to buying a gazillion fast computer like 3 years ago at a huge premium. How fast is your computer running now? For the combined cost of an average upgrade three years ago and an upgrade now, would cost me less than a super hunky upgrade three years ago. My latest upgraded machine will be far superior to the three year old machine.

However, the current pricing has yet to hit mainstream pricing for a new console to be introduced. Maybe 2012-13 for next gen?

No. My bank account needs a rest from my gaming. After getting a PS3 new 40" 1080p TV and a half decent gaming PC to hook to it as well. I just need to sit down and play some of these games I keep buying.

1.11 - The PS3 has already proved that they could Pixar-level games
With Ratchet and Clank:ToD, so why would I get a PS4 or 720 when the graphics are still being improved upon now?

Hell no!! my ps3 is going to stay where it is, I feel like this gen has just started. I do not want to buy another console for at least another 4 or 5 years..if they keep making them too soon i am not going to buy them any more.there is still so much they can do with the ps3 and the 360.but i think if any one will make a new console soon it will be Nintendo.

I am not ready to see and buy a PS4 or Xbox720 but I would like to see asap a new console from Nintendo !!

What worries me right now is not to see a new console that is also compatible with games from the last gen but I want to see the new MS/Sony's console also compatible to all games that I bought from their online store !

I know pcs are already a few steps ahead in terms of graphical horsepower, but I would still rather wait a couple years before the new consoles to get something that makes current pc hardware(& crysis) look last gen.
-keep physical media, I don't want to download games that are 30-50gb+
-have the hardware so games actually run at 1080p
-Engineer the online aspect so multiplayer games can easily have large amounts of players, 100 minimum.
If that was what we had in a few years I'd jump ship.

I don't even want to see a PS4 released until at least 4 years from now... the fact that this generation is so costly, a new next gen console released within 5 years from the launch date of the PS3/360 is just too soon to me.

Both the 360 and PS3 offer amazing graphics, and I think that next-gen will have to offer something a lot more than just slightly prettier graphics, because if not, it's going to be very hard to convince people to make the jump initially, and that's why I don't see a PS4/Xbox 720 coming out anytime soon.

And Since Nintendo hasn't even gone HD yet, I think they will be the first to launch a new console, with Sony and Microsoft following up a year or two later.

I think the new motion controls for the current generation of systems will actually extend its intended life span so I don't think we will see "next gen" for a while.

The PS2 showed the benefit to consumers of a long life span as some of the very best games came out late into the PS2's life. So I'm quite happy to keep the PS3 for another 7 or 8 years yet as when you look at the games coming out now it shows it is only just getting into it's stride.

We've seen what the current can do, next please!!!
Still waiting for CGI styled graphics, neither any PC or console can still do it.
And before anyone steps up with a BUT BUT BUT what about this game, please keep it real.
I want movie grade CGI graphics or good enough realistic graphics/physics were you just sit there saying how freaky does this sh@t look and can't take your eyes off it.
Been gaming since very early 80's, so have only been waiting close to 30 years.
Hurry up :)

Maybe if I owned an Xbox 360 but since I own a PS3...No. I am happy with the current quality of my PS3 exclusives and I know they will improve. I am very content with my investment...too many quality games to play. Not to mention...I have hundreds of PS2 games to play also.

I would buy the next gen hardware. The PS3 and the XBOX360 are way under powered for tomorrows(literally) video gaming. There is more to games than graphics. I want more physics, and things happening on the screen coupled with better graphics. I think the time is ripe and I would support a new console every 3-4 years.

If the new console does not release soon, then the only option is to return to PC gaming...at least until the newest consoles releases. the more and more I hear about waiting to release the new consoles, the more I realize PC/mobile gaming will make a return.

this gen isn't even "next gen", until all games are 1080p native with decent aa they're not HD consoles, upscaling doesn't fu<king count, and as for xbox 720, ps4, i have a monster pc rig, i'm already there baby
