Capcom: Street Fighter III HD Remix is "Unlikely"

While Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix may have broken numerous digital download records on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade, Capcom isn't too keen on the idea of giving the same HD Remix treatment to the sequel, Street Fighter III.

considering that FFVII just generated free money for Sony and Square. Marvel v. Capcom 2 is going to do the same. It's a win win. The fans want it and the publisher makes money on an old IP given a new level of polish and trophies.

I swear I should become an exec at a major video game company. These guys are really out of touch in some regards.

Still think this has the best animation for a 2d fighter. I wanted this in HD more than SF2

Personally I would rather see a Street Fighter Alpha 3 HD remix but that seems even more unlikely considering the massive amount of characters and what not.

I think Capcom really needs to stop BSing about how hard it is to do stuff with HD sprites at this point. I mean not to long ago they said the reason Street Fighter IV was not in 2d was because they did everything that could be done with sprites in Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike which is obvious BS as games like Blaz Blue are clearly showing us that sprites can be pushed to the limit and still look absolutely stunning in the process.

Well sorry but it is indeed hard . Games like Odin sphere , sf2 hd , kof and blazblue just dont appears out of the blue . it takes a lots of works and time .

And while blazblue looks beautiful , it's animation was quite a bit sacrificed to attain that level of hd 2d perfection . It's far from being as well animated than SF3 (or 4 or the upcoming kof for that matter) . . Just check out sites with detailed access to each SF3 animation to see the difference . blazblue also "cheats" a bit by not being entirely hand drawn like some of the other recents initiatives .

When i say the animation was sacrificed for higher resolution ...I'm not talking about frame rate, I'm talking about the actual animation. Poses are held for a long time and they milk the hell out of individual frames instead of making an effort to have things flowing. All the effort has gone into detailed drawings and intricacies instead of creating high quality animation. This sort of thing is the difference between SF3 and GG... not the frame rate or image quality, but the number of frames (appropriately) used to express an action.

To have a good idea check this out http://www.zweifuss.com/ , you can look at the animations on demand from 3rd Strike. Every time a character falls over, crouches, jumps, whatever. High amount of frames for that action. Plus it's expressive and just awesome .

SF4 and kofXII are the only one closing in on sf3 animation-wise , and they both rely on 3d (use of 3d models for animation purposes for kof then redrawn over) .

PS: i'm not talking about whose better or not gameplay wise , obviously , only animation related stuff .

3 - Why not?
Capcom why not? A SFIII 3rd Strike HD Remix (or just the original) would sell like crazy on PSN and XBLA.....I mean its the best beat-em-up ever in many peoples eyes, this would sell very well in many countries (Japan would be all over it)

4 - God no
Release a Street Fighter Alpha 3 Remix or better a Street Fighter Alpha 4 with HD sprites but I think none of this will happen because they are to lazy and they have to draw too many characters.

Street Fighter Alpha 4 in HD would be absolutely awesome! I'm probably the only person on the planet who thinks SF Alpha 3 was better than SFIII.

You're far from the only one . While parry is an obvious crowd pleaser in videos , i prefer alpha .

So do many and most people imo . Despite a return to popularity over internet forum partially due to those awesome youtube and co video of daigo and great players , SF3 wasnt really a success , for whatever reasons .

It wont suddenly become one just because a limited amount of forums users wants it .
But it would be great to have a re-release with upscale and online at the very least , and i'm sure that will happens , just like with MVC2 , instead of a complete rehaul

Well I personally don't need a "HD remix" for SF3 or any of it's incarnations (2nd Impact being my personal favorite). Just release SF3 with online and I would be set. Maybe give it the MvC2 treatment if you need to rope in new people.

Edit @Gametime: Yeah you guys always get the shaft. You guys don't even have a release date for BlazBlue yet (unrelated fighting game I know).

It's a shame that Capcom likely attributes this to the low sales of SF3, but really it didn't have much of a chance. It only really appeared on the Dreamcast, in a time when people were busy being wowed by those fancy 3D games that were doing the rounds. Now that the novelty of 3D has worn off for most of us and we're willing to accept a quality 2D game more than a mediocre 3D game, I reckon SF3 could do really really well.

I dont see the point of complaining and clamoring for a HD remix , for all purpose sf2's hd remix brought the sf3 quality or animation and graphics (or at least tried) to sf2 ...

SF3 is already up there , what's the point then ?
Now a re-release of the game with simple upscale like MVC2 and online , ok that's more than fair to ask for .

SF3 already has really good animation, no need for a remix.

12 - OK
Please just Re-release it on PSN and Xbox Live, JUST as it was on DC.

I WANT TO PLAY IT ON PS3.

Too much trouble to take out the DC or the PS2 to play it.

13 - Did any of you read the "Original" Article ...?
If you read the original 1up.com article, which this post is based on ... I believe the interviewee's said at http://www.1up.com/do/featu...

"1UP: Is Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike: HD Remix or Darkstalkers: HD Remix next?
SK: Well, we'd like to focus on making sure HD Remix and Street Fighter IV are successful before we get too far along with new projects, but we know those are both great games with strong fan bases. If Capcom is able to have some success with our return to the fighting market, the future is wide open.
RJ: Well, actually, I have it here in my pocket. Wanna play? Yeah... just kidding about that. But who knows what the future holds? If it were up to me, we'd see more unknown soldiers and light-sword ninjas. But alas, it isn't up to me. "

the way these guys put up post on n4g I swear .. its like vg news is becoming something akin to paparazzi news

Call me strange but i liked Original SF3 graphics over SF2HDRemix, i know the other is SD and HD but the animation was better in SF3.

It's not strange , again SF3 is the best 2d animation there is for a fighting game .
The only games catching up so far are SF4 fully in 3d ... and KofXII , with even KOFXII cheating with the use of 3d models at some point , for animation purpose .

16 - No thanks
There's a reason why SF3 didn't catch on in the mainstream....

It just wasn't very great. An HD remix of a game hardly anyone played would not be a good idea for Capcom
