Sony Comments On PS2 God Of War Games Coming To Blu-ray

Sony surveyed potential God of War III fans this week about what they'd like to see in a collector's edition for the PlayStation 3 sequel, including repackaging the first two games on Blu-ray.

That would almost certainly indicate that PlayStation 2 games would be playable on the PlayStation 3, a backwards compatibility option that the most recent PS3 configurations don't offer. And that would be just about the greatest thing since in-game text chat to hit the console.

Not so fast, Sony Computer Entertainment reps say. The console maker is not announcing updated PS2 support just yet.

Yeah agreed it would be awesome. I would buy the CE edition too.
But I guess I can always buy the ps2 games for my PS3 60 gb. if needed. But those ps2 games are not in my top 20 game wishes either.

Really. It's the reason I bought a PSP. GOW as a series is honestly in my top 3 of all time. You need to go to a friends and play or something man. If you lived near me I would force you to play them. They are absolutely amazing.

1.3 - It sucks man
I still got my old Ps2 slimline and i borrowed God Of War 1 and 2 from a friend a while ago but my Ps2 wouldnt read any of discs, all my other Ps2 games worked fine but 4 sum reason it wouldnt play the GoW games

And not only that i gotta 40gig Ps3 (500gig HDD installed) so i cant play them that way

So 4 me the idea of an ultimate edition with both of the earlier games is a very welcome idea

GET IT! No joke, I got the game a week ago and for a while I though that I might like it more than metal gear! (Of course in the end I decided that BIG BOSS was too badass to just leave behind)

1.5 - I brought the first 2 games
And they were both incrrrredible! Such in-depth story and pacing. almost flawless and fun most of all. PSP was pretty good too but way short compared to the PS2 versions.

GOW1 last 9 hrs.
GOW2 a wopping 12 hrs.

1.6 - If you have not played GOW 1, 2, or Chains - you are doing yourself a huge diservice
Those are three genre redefining games that really show off what the PS2 and PSP can do. And the scale of total "EPIC-NESS" is second to none.

I'm talking MGS3 & 4 levels of epic here, but more well known

- Ultimate Bad-ass, selfish, sacrifice-victims-to-get-what- he-wants, EVIL main character

- Intense, OMG-I-seriously-just-impaled-a -minator-with-his-own-club Action

- Ultra, Insane, Kratos-you-may-have-gone-too-f ar-this-time, but-I-can't-wait-to-see-how-th is-sh!t-turns-out, over-the-top Story

GOW games have a unique mix of rage, excitement, payback, wonder, and dread that can't be duplicated.

If you've ever seen Clash of the Titans, had the slightest bit of interest in Greek Mythology, or just like fun games - get these games!

Oh, and...

SPOILER...

Just beware of the spinning pole/blades in Hell in the first game

Yes, I said "in Hell" :)

I wasn't really interested at first, but my friend wanted to play it so bad that he bought it for me. After that, Gow2 and chains were first day buys. I actually dropped the modding on my PSP to play chains(gave up thirty games for 1).

I haven't played either GOW I or II (hate me if you will).

So while this sounds great at first, I know getting all three together, Id play GOWIII first and there for have little interest in going backwards. Technically and story wise.

Pop them on the store leading up to GOWIIIs release however, I think that would be a better move. If they're considering it at all of course.

Edit: I got a 60GB, I can just pick up the DVDs :)

2.1 - Fishy
If you have a BC enabled PS3 I highly recommend picking up the first 2 games in the series. There will be no better way to hype yourself for GOW3 than playing those 2 games.

If you have a PSP I also HIGHLY recommend Chains of Olympus!

2.4 - GOW1 looks like shiiiiiiiiiit
UNLESS you have and HD TV. If you press the select button (that is the GOW menu button) you can turn on progressive scanning. Truly a beautiful game. I just got GOW 1 last week, and buddy, you really need to get it.

2.5 - I never played them when they were new
But glad to have found pre owned copies. Played them on my UK 60 GB PS3 and ran smoothly. No flaws or hiccups what so ever.

If I remember correctly, some PS3s don't have the Emotion chip but have a software based emulation, so Sony already has the software to run PS2 games on the PS3, they removed it to reduce cost. So adding something on the disc to allow it to be used on a PS3 shouldn't be too hard.

5.1 - Question...
I was under the impression that actual hardware was removed from the PS3 that allows for PS2 BC? This isn't backward compatibility.

I am hoping the GOW I and II are being rereleases as PS3 games, with improved graphics, easter eggs, etc. Otherwise I'd just play a game on a PS2.

Kotaku is retarded... They f^ck^n write an article about PS3 getting backwards compatibility... Really??? Kotaku are idiots... If they bothered to read the f^ck^n article, they would've known that its GOW 1 and 2 on THE BLU RAY DISC!!! Retards...

I was thinking the same thing (although not quite as angry about it =P ). If GOW 1 and 2 were gonna be put on a Blu-Ray disc, that would obviously mean you wouldn't need BC to play them, which would be the entire point of putting them on Blu-Ray, rather than a ps2 disc.

I took this survey and noticed this too. I would totally buy this along with a PS3. I played the first God of War and was really into it. This would really help people who don't still have a PS3 and love God of War games bring them in.

10 - i said this before
that they should release PS2 classic packs on bluray

jak 1-3 and racing
Ratchet 1-?
GtaVice-SanAndreas
gow 1&2
socom1-conf
you know, super collections

but on PS3 collectors editions, this is a no brainer

Would you buy TeamICO's next PS3 game collectors edition if it had ICO and ShadowOfCollossus on a separate bluray disc?

10.1 - Gamers Fantasy
but not a good business decision, Sony wont support PS2 games on PS3 until the PS3 has become mainstream (dominant) or achieve its target install base and popularity

12 - you know what would be awesome?
If sony were to add GOW 1 & 2 in the RETAIL game (with a $60 price?)that'd be awesome!

It would be like the Orange Box!

lol but quoting from no-spin this will probably be the gamers dream, and that's it.

13 - Is it possible?
That they up the resolution for High def instead of just putting the original on blu ray disc. Is it possible? Keep the same assetes of the original games (i.e character models, textures, etc) just boost the native resolutions to 1080p.

I recently finished GOW2 for the first time...

Even thought I detest playing PS2 games this gen due to how crappy they look, I couldn't keep away from experiencing GOW2.

It's is as epic as many have always said.

I found it a bit long for my taste, but that's not a problem for most.

If you are somewhat like me, then I recommend you give this game a try. I haven't played the first one though.

The first one is a lot of fun. It has an awesome first boss near the start of the game too, the Hydra. Hope the third one starts off with an epic boss battle too.

"Even thought I detest playing PS2 games this gen due to how crappy they look, I couldn't keep away from experiencing GOW2."

Spoken like a "True" gamer...because graphics make a good game, nevermind story, gameplay or music, nah its all based on graphics. People like you are what's wrong with games today, emphasis on graphical power and nothing else.

Glad you played GoW2 BTW way to "Rough" it out...cause that game was just SOOOO hideous...wow...just wow...

if the game sales 3 mio. than its good
if the game manage to sell more than 4 mio. its a AAA-Game

and they should all in one Day

I have both God of War 1 and 2 for the PS2. If a Collectors Edition of God of War 3 came with both God of War 1 and 2on Blu-ray, I would buy it. I'm a huge fan of God of War, and I'm going with the Collectors Edition regardless.

I know that not everybody plays action games, but if you haven't played God of War before, go out and buy it. And don't even think about playing God of War 3 before playing both God of War 1 and 2, you should play them in sequential order to get a grasp on the gameplay and story.

If sony was developing Backward compatibility, the two God of War games would probably be some of the games they'd focus on early to make work. So even if they did have backwards compatibility with these games, it doesn't mean they've managed a way to emulate the majority of games properly.
