Agree on that..big mistake in japan...it would have been a mistake to go exclusive with 360 or ps3 too ...so doing it for both is the smartest decision for japan and oversea sales

I understand that they were trying to boost 360 hardware sales in Japan but still, they haven't even confirmed a PS3 version yet. It's as if they never really wanted it to become a successful addition to the Star Ocean series.

In short, JRPG's sell better in Japan. Port it to the PS3 or the Wii if you want above-decent sales.

No, they needed to understand that mindfu*king their fan base was bad idea. Let them assume that they were going to make PS3 titles then support the 360 at the technical last minute.

If they had handled the PR right, announced that they were on MS's knob before the 360's launch instead of two years after the da*n thing was out, I probably would have bought one since FFXIII would have been on it.

"I guess they finally realized what a huge mistake they were making by developing exclusively on 360."

Yeah, I agree with that, but I have another thought about that too.

Since Sony recently lowered the cost of PS3 dev. kits and Sony are providing more tools to devs., that could be a reason why this game will be their first PS3 game.

They probably only released 360 JRPG's up until this point this generation because before Sony started providing more tools for PS3 development, maybe they weren't confident or capable of PS3 development at the time.

Tri-Ace will definantly make more money by releasing JRPG's on the PS3 though.

To be honest, I don't really care about any game developed by Tri-Ace. I've played all their console games since the PS1 era (except Infinite Undiscovery), and their all pretty mediocre.

I have to agree. Since the Playstation 1, I personally feels that Tri-Ace hasn't release a kick ass JRPG on any consoles. The last great JRPG the release on a console for me was Star Ocean: Second Story for the original playstation. Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time killed the series for me. What they did to the story in part 3 made Star Ocean a huge turn off for me.
But on the hand-held, they made and remade three kick ass JRPGs.
The remake of Star Ocean and Star Ocean: Second Evolution. They also made Star Ocean: Blue Sphere for the Gameboy color or Gameboy Advance. I forgot which one it was made for.

Agreed... Tri-Ace games are pretty bad, minus the battle systems.

Tri Ace used to be pretty good. Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile and a few others. Then they started sucking in the PS2 era, and on the 360 they're basically terrible. Though they probably do want to make profit now so they have to make it on PS3 as Japan couldn't give a crap about their games on the 360.

All I've got to say is good luck to Tri-Ace on developing their first PS3 game, because I think they are going to need it.

If their new RPG is anything close to Star Ocean: The Last Hope in terms of quality, then maybe it'll be pretty good.... hopefully it won't be anything equivalent of Infinite Undiscovery in terms of JRPG quality.

So you want the next Tri Ace game to fail? That's what you're saying if you want it to be like Star Ocean The last hope. I hope they actually make a GOOD game this time around as I'm tired of audio enema inducing dialogue that their games are pouring into English territories. The voice acting in Star Ocean 4 was so bad I think it gave me cancer. I swear that the voiceacting in Star Ocean 4 makes Killzone 2's voiceacting worthy of the Oscar. I rather hear about Rico talking about Garza's mom then the "you're a naughty boy" bit where she lost her glasses and he has to get em from the girls shower.

A 2D Valkyrie Profile HD would be awesome ! But i'm more interested in Tri-Crescendo games. And a domain name called "newrpg" is kinda weird. Why didn't they simply teased it on their site, and linking to the real RPG site once the countdown ended?

Oh well, whatever. I'm glad to see another RPG on PS3 and 360, let's hope it wont suck like the others.

10 - As long as it's not a WRPG disguised as a JRPG I'll buy it.
I'm looking at you Demon Souls and White Knight Chronicles!

Why can't these companies make a proper JRPG now-a-days?
Well, I'm still holding out hope.

11 - i have a bad feeling that they will soon
announce that the game will be x360 exclusive like they did with star ocean 4:/
companies keep releasing jrpg games for 360 and it didn,t sell will even in japan.
most of the jrpg fans are playstaion owners why they can,t understand that, they just keep screwing us with delays or canceling the games.
especially Square-enix they are treating us the loyal fans badly.

tri-ace? confirmed flop. And if they cant even get a 360 game to have a semi decent framerate with a resolution below HD, what do you think will happen to the PS3 version of the game? FAIL

WTH? Ey mod, why you deleted my post? What was wrong with it? Oh yeah, SO was an amazing commercial success, especially in Japan.

I didnt say anything false, a lot of ps3 owners love the Jrpg genre and was a pretty bad move from SE part, to give us the middle finger. Tri-Ace is yet to develop the FIRST ps3 title so we dont know what to expect from them.

17 - i luv tri-ace
i dont care what anyone says, star ocean 1,2,3,4 are some of my favs especially the valkyrie profile series, im beating the ds one for the 2nd time now, i have to say the valkyrie stories are very unique tho, never not once cliche'd.

cant wait, i remember when tri ace released a game ones or twice a gen, glad they r pickin up.

i liked infinite undiscovery, not my fav but still enjoyed it. almost done with SO4, 100 hours into it so far.

o and SO4 is coming to ps3, the strat guide says for 360 version, meaning a ps3 version with more content is on way.

i hope they r doing a next gen valkyrie tho

why are they still wasting time publishing on the 360? Its obvious that their JRPGs aren't popular with the predominantly western consumer base. Go wii and ps3 or something, stop wasting your resources tri-ace

From Tri-Ace we already got one failure experiment which was Infinite Undiscovery, we also got Star Ocean 4 which is supposed to be a solid franchise installment despite the low resolution, frame-rate issues, changing-disc annoying thing, poor sales...

So the real question is, will this unannounced game be a new experiment (such as Infinite Undiscovery) or a franchise's next installment ?? If it happens to be the latter and taking in consideration Tri-Ace only has 2 franchises series (SO and VP) then it will be Valkyrie Profile 3.

crossing fingers...

All i can say is hopefully they will actually support this title with patch fixes.

As much as i enjoyed SO4 it was extremely annoying farming materials only to have the game freeze during a battle. The only time it did it to me it seemed was on disc 2 and unfortunately disc 2 was the disc that had the bulk of side quests and end game content.

I've got some hopes, but nothing major.

Tri-Ace developed my favorite game of all time to this date and time which is Star Ocean: The Second Story. Everything after is nowhere near the same quality. Even the remake of SO2 for PSP was butchered with horrible voice acting. They even took the original voices and threw them out completely which were stellar.

Last Hope shattered my last hopes as well for the Star Ocean series as a whole. 3 killed it and 4 defecated on it. 4 had a remarkable battle system though that surpassed the others, but the trade off was that everything else was butchered.

I played the first Valkryie Profile and much like SO2 it was done very well. I'd say that Tri-Ace is a bit hit and miss company especially since Infinite Undiscovery was such a piece of crap.

If it's a new Valkryie Profile I'll be somewhat interested, but a new IP would probably be the best way to go if you ask me. Square was the top of the food chain in RPG advancement. Now they can't innovate, can't rehash with updates, and can't provide quality of any sort.

The major problems with RPGs this generation have been poor voice acting, poor dialogue with that voice acting, and very poor stories. Japan developers are struggling to adapt and evolve yet western developers seem to keep pushing the envelope. Play Mass Effect or Fallout 3 for RPG advancement. At least as poor as JRPGs have been this generation their one saving grace to me is Lost Odyessy. Sakaguchi did a smart thing to bail on SE when he did, because that ship is on fire right now.
