Footage of cancelled Wii project, Red Faction: B.E.A.S.T.

Red Faction: B.E.A.S.T. was being developed by Locomotive Games as a prototype for the Wii. Unfortunately, the game was canceled once THQ closed down the studio.

Eh,
It's lame simply because it "could" have been a decent/good game.
It could have been crap too, but we won't find that out, or will we?

I think you misunderstood my comment.

Typical Sony fan... Tons of games get cancelled for PS3, it means nothing... One game get cancelled for Wii due to the developer being shut down and suddenly hundreds of Wii titles are being cancelled in mass. What games have been cancelled? Other than this one? Winter? The game that never was set for release? The game that never went beyond 2 weeks of coding and a quick demo? Yeah thats far worse than all the PS3 games that get cancelled mid development. Hey at least they didnt have to shut their doors because they made a great game that nobody bought.. Now who has had to do that.. Oh yeah PS3 developers

I know you are trying to be unbiased and sh/t like that, but at the same time you attack sony fans. And that's what I read mostly from you.

=) you make good points at times, but try doing it without the fanboy pointing =). You could basically wright that comment of yours without the PS3-fanboy bashing.

O btw im not trying to bash you or something, it's just i read loads of your comments that come off with some kind of rage towards PS3-fans.
Like i said you make good points at time, bring them nicely xD.

3.2 - Well...
I think you need to look at WHERE the cancellations are, not just how many titles. Fatal Frame certainly wasn't cancelled...in JPN and EUR. But where is the NA release? How about Disaster? What's going on with that? Doesn't sound to reassuring that NOA has no interest in the project at this time...and if not, what is the right time for this project? Ever?!?

I think the overall message here is that the demographic drives the content and sadly, Mature titles are few and far between. Sure we have some of the RE titles, NMH, Madworld...those are well beyond the definition of Mature simply for content. The larger problem is they get lost in the sea of titles currently available for the platform and the sales are skewed. Nobody can deny that core gamers are secondary on the platform, so it goes without saying that core game releases are secondary and/or see moderate sales at best. This cycle continues and more devs pull these core titles because the risk of investment and return is far too high.

"Fatal Frame certainly wasn't cancelled...in JPN and EUR. But where is the NA release?"

Somewhere in 2009, if one believes pretty recent rumors.

http://www.gamingtarget.com...

Let's not forget that when it was released in Japan, there were so many game-crippling glitches and programming hiccups, Fatal Frame IV could have been more accurately named Escape From Bug Island 2: Electric Bug-a-loo. It's to be expected that it would take some time to arrive on other shores.

Articles like these make me sad :-( The game looked quite polished so I wonder how far along it was. 3,300 polygons for a npc is not bad. The targeting reticule looked good as well as the cover system. Oh well...

...I grow increasingly tired of these articles. I'm not faulting the editorial, or the columnist but why must I be subjected to one more reason my Wii isn't played with any regularity. Nintendo has done a mighty fine job of creating a home version of the DS filled with an abundance of crap, a few diamonds in the rough (Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, and a few upcoming titles)...but everything else is PORT/REHASH/WASH-RINSE-REPEAT!

Red Faction is one of my favorite series...always loved the games. Sad to see another unique excursion in the series takes a dive, even more so that it would have been a quality Wii title. *sigh* Nintendo, I'm losing my faith in you. You may be dominating the sales charts and own the industry but it doesn't take away the sour taste I'm left with.

I really don't get this at all, so because a company basically canceled a game or can't progress due financial reason it's a reason to loose faith in Nintendo?...

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEH?

People are comming up with reasons for loosing faith in Nintendo, but they don't make sense at all.

9.2 - Actually...
...it makes perfect sense. Sony reaches out to its members, Microsoft does the same to secure titles. Instead of ignoring a title that might appeal to a more core gamer, why not jump in and save it? Nintendo certainly has the money to lend to projects like these, instead we have to watch their decisions to turn a blind eye to titles like Disaster, Fatal Frame, etc.

Why not fault the company who really takes no control over their partners content?

MS and Sony would only help these kind of companies IF the title has worked for them before OR the title is highly known ( just like FF going to the 360).

" Why not fault the company who really takes no control over their partners content?
"

If you are a developer do it right, don't expect the console maker to help you out.

9.4 - Come on Sidar...
I can generally see the points you make in various posts but honestly...

"MS and Sony would only help these kind of companies IF the title has worked for them before OR the title is highly known ( just like FF going to the 360)."

Microsoft aided Square with marketing in FFXI despite the fact no Square title had ever hit their console. That's a chance transaction. Same was done for Microsoft and Gears. I don't think Unreal ever saw stellar sales on the original Xbox, so funding Epic for exclusivity is a huge risk with no prior graces to warrant that risk. The took a chance, that's it.

Sony does the same across the board for internal development and more recently with its partners simply because they want to help devs learn the architecture of the platform with no barring on prior experience.

Nintendo takes very little risk this generation. The Wii may have been a technical risk, I mean who could have foreseen the casual market surging simply because of the design...Nintendo? Sure they had an idea, but it was the first and last risk the company has taken with the Wii. It just seems they are currently riding the wave with no effort taken to swell it by attacking these potential losses.

Seriously Square/enix is making dragon quest 11 for the Wii. Remember SONY does not pay for game or reach out as you phrase it. That is the same reason why the xbox 360 is getting the next final fantasy. SONY does reach yet not this gen it seems. Another thing is they can no long reach out thanks to the blue ray needing vampires thats call them selves fans.

Another thing is nintendo can not pay for all of these projects. Most of my mates at work make 7-k over here and most dev houses have at least 20 people. Once you pay that a few times and get nothing in return you end up with a company that owes lots of money to it's creditors.

You can blame nintendo but it's not their fault that the industry leader decided not to make a console, yet a set top box trying to be a PC. A similar thing happened to voodoo the graphics guys.

im really getting sick and tired of fanboys bashig Nintendo, especialy 360 fanboys considering Microsoft seen all the cash Nintendo is getting and is trying to go for the casuals, but Nintendo is trying its hardest to make hardcore titles and casual titles and you only see less hardcore is because they take longer to make, and casual games dont take time at all, its the lack of 3rd party support (which seems to be going up) but if Nintendo truely didnt care about ccore gamers would they make games like: twilight princess, galaxy, corruption, sin and punishment 2, punch out!!, brawl, Mario Kart, rumors of eternal darkness 2, and Pit. Fanboys are just to spoiled these days. Im going to stick with Nintendo because next gen they will HAVE to go for the hardcore because the casuals wont be going to get the next system, so then they will have all this money and will spend it all on the hardcore and they wont go under, dont even try to say sony and microsoft wont because i already see them starting to, they have both layed off many workers (microsoft a few days ago and sony a little while ago) it hasnt effected Nintendo yet, and the PS3 is just bringing Sony down more they loose money for every ps3 they sell, so even if sales on the ps3 went up, it wouldnt really help them. I dont mean to bash them but just say the facts, i actually like Sony and the PS3, but not the 360 there are just so amny problems i just would rather not have to deal with, the true winners of last gen are the people who own a ps3, wii and pc. if you have a 360 and those i guess you still win but not as much because the 360 just slowly burns a hole in your pocket. (360 fanboys dont even try to say that it doesnt because you know it does)

It worked for the Conduit, and it may work for Winter and Red Faction.
It's kinda a wake up call not only to fanboys but the industry themselves by saying "were trying to put out M games on the Wii, but we need your support."

You can't lose something you never had. "This is why I lost faith in nintendo" Right. So a game being cancelled that had nothing to do with Nintendo is the reason you no longer have faith in it..gimme a break. Just as ridiculous as the blaming Nintendo for the shovelware on their system. It is all bs and just a way to expose their already negative feelings for Nintendo in what they believe is a valid way.

"Just as ridiculous as the blaming Nintendo for the shovelware on their system."

Soooo...who is to fault then if it isn't Nintendo for allowing said "shovelware" to pass their QA? Last time I checked Nintendo controlled EVERYTHING that either makes the pass or fail for development.

I can enjoy the 360 for Microsoft's endless pockets in acquiring titles such as Mass Effect, Gears, etc. I can also enjoy the PS3 for the quality releases on that platform, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank Future. How can I truly gain an appreciation for a product that refuses to have regular 1st Party releases? Sure I love Zelda, Mario...and whatever iteration and/or spinoff is seen on the platform. But with the irregularity of releases in the 1st Party domain I'm forced to play 3rd Party titles which are few & far between in terms of quality, and the rest...cancelled!

I hope you realise that Nintendo were always douchebags towards Developers. Not allowing their sotware would result in another BS sittuation where developers don't feel like supporting Nintendo.

And you pretend there is nothing good coming up.
It's getting real stupid when people go " MARIO AND ZELDA .
There is more out there ya know, and 2009 is also looking better.

Loosing faith in Nintendo is just a lame excuuse for hating them or not getting their console. I don't know if you realised it but DS had loads of shovelware too, maybe Nintendo is just letting them get used to the system? 2009 looks far better.

So sarshelyam Microsoft's pockets are so endless then why is it they just layed off alot of workers a few days ago? hmm... Then i must say, i always talk about some of the stubornest fanboys come from microsoft and the 360, well you only proov my point. If you truely beleive that Nintendo is responsible for the shovelware you are wrong, sorry but i cant think of any shovelware games that Nintendo has come out with, maybe a few on Wii Ware but thats it and maybe if you count Wii Play and Wii music. Just go read my other comment to your ignorance for the rest. Also the 360 is just gross, sure you get your money's worth when you first buy it ill admit that, but then you get rrod it scratches your disk, have to buy a new game, you have to buy all that extra stuff for your 360, keep having to pay for new headsets because they break, and keep paying for online, add that up and you could have saved up that money and got a PS3. Sorry but no, most 360 owners are in denial.

You seem to be intelligent enough person and I understand where you are coming from. BUT, you clearly don't get that Nintendo is a corporate company and not a bank that gives out loans to struggling devs.

Game development is a game of extremely high risks and rewards. We are in one of the worst recessions in a long time and things look like they will only get worse.

It is not Nintendo's responsibility to save these companies. If anything, there giving lots of smaller companies a chance to succeed by being the cheapest console to develop for while have the biggest install base.

Except for a few exceptions, shovelware doesn't sell. The companies who continue to push out this crap will slowly die off like flies. Sales from upcoming games such as Hose of The Dead O.K., The Conduit, Madworld, etc. Should solidify some publishers faith in the consoles ability to be successful with the core crowd and with any luck, will see games like this one come back to life.

Great comment. Seriously you can actually start coding for the Wii for a little as $250. If you want the info PM me.

You are so right. The only reason we are having issues is the modeling takes long and needs more people to do even if the tools are faster. The problem is the vocal hardcore are not satisfied by console games and actually expect PC games which take 4-6 years to make.

Imagine all of those project which will release this year on HD consoles then imagine how much money they will loose when they try to make that money back.

13 - Turning down games
Okay but here's a problem, what's up with NoA turning down games like Disaster: Day of Crisis and Fatal Frame? Both games were published by Nitendo (D:DoC is a 2nd party game for crying out loud) and from my knowledge were good games that sold well. And you can't even call on the translation deal, both of these games (among others) were released in Europe so that problem is solved. The problem is that NoA only wants games that'll sell well, even Reggie said that he wants to wait for the sales of Disaster in Europe till he considers bringing it to the states. NoA is always complaining about hardcore games not selling, but isn't it funny that while Wii Music and Wii Fit had huge million dollar campaigns you only occainsonally saw a Metroid Prime 3 ad somewhere? Even then that game only relied on word of mouth.

You can even bring up Super Mario Galaxy which is always for everyone (games and casuals alike) and it didn't nearly get the same advertising as the safe casual Wii games.

Nintendo has the money and they could, if they wanted to, support all these impressive yet struggling hardcore Wii projects, but they don't. That is the problem.

Now before you call me a Sony fan, lemme tell you I actually don't really blame Nintendo for the shovelware like Ponyz on their system, as this always happens to the top dog system, but what I do fault them for is their lack of support for the truly great games trying to peak through on their very own system.

Games always get canned. Its no big secret. Even in the snes days nintendo themselves canned starfox 2, f zero 2, super mario world 2 (wacky worlds) They even canned like 6 metroid games during the n64 - gamecube period before they settled with a game that everyone knows as Metroid Prime.

All devs cancel games if it doesnt work for them. No big secret, some ppl act like its something new.
