So now you are saying GFK is currupt and claimed of VGchartz because it says what you don't want to see. LBP is suddenly doing better. Has sony been greasing palms? NO!

Maybe the 360 got big the sales the previous weeks. I know I have COD5, Gear 2 (horde) + Fable 2 , Midnight club and Mirrors edge (got the last 3 for £18 each hence bought but not even touched them yet.

I am not saying that GFK is corrupt. I am speculating that the 1 million units don't add up especially with the software sales seen throughout Europe over the past 4 weeks. In general over the course of the past 4 weeks the PS3 has been seeing much better overall software sales than the XBox 360. One would think that if a unit has 1 million more installed that the numbers would show otherwise.

this confirms what all non-fanboys knew - that the 360 has been doing really well in Europe since the pricecut. Thats not to say anything against the ps3 which is a great system but the xbox has turned itself around in Europe. Where are all the people that were complaining about vgchartz saying the exact same thing earlier? Well done MS. And for the fanboys going on about attatch rates - if you actually look at the charts you'll a healthy number of xbox and ps titles in european charts with the xbox doing better in the UK than everywhere else. But I suppose the MS hate train led by morganfell will always lies to spread.

EDIT: @slimdaddy - it doesn't matter whether you believe MS and sony report shipped or sold or whatever these figures are from an independent chart tracker analysing sales to consumers. Its a neutral view away from the natural bias of sony and microsoft.

@above - well the 360 is gaining now seeing as its outselling the ps3 recently. The ps3 originally gained on the xbox since its launch and now the 360 is coming back. Market competition is great for the games industry.

All three report consoles sold to retailers and distributors only as far as financial statements go. They only report units sold to consumers to show brand recognition, and most of the time that's only at major industry press events like CES, GDS, TGS, or E3.

All of these 360 supporters are screaming that the article is correct. Okay, let's run with that. Look at what the article says in black and white:

For 2 years 360 fans say their console has been outselling the PS3 and now they say this article is correct. An article that says the PS3 has been gaining like a predator closing the gap. Well which is it? You can't have it both ways.

The article says the 360 will stay ahead into the new year. Well that's 2 weeks. It won't last past the end of January as Europe spins up for Killzone 2. That one game will crush that bump and Sony will continue it's move past Microsoft.

MS really has no response ready for February and they will wind up as nothing more than a bug on a very big Sony windshield. Like death I am patient as I know it's all just a matter of time. I have not once heard this on N4G, in fact all I heard is rabid sony fanboys claiming the 360 is dead in Europe. Most reasonable people on this site knew that both consoles were fine. Now this article comes along which proves them wrong and you act like you knew all along. But now you are claiming that xbox software sales are appaling which is another lie. Right. Killzone will be an amazing game but to hell will it bring down the 360. I'm not even going to go into how many times I've heard this with x game. The only thing that will help the ps3 overtake the 360 is a ps3 pricecut as currently the 360 is more valuable at its pricepoint than the ps3 is at its own pricepoint and consumers are responding to this. The news also extended losses in Japanese stocks. The benchmark Nikkei 225 stock average shed 5.6 percent to 8,235.87.

A strong yen is the last thing Japanese exporters need.

Major manufacturers including Toyota Motor Corp. and Sony Corp. are already reeling from slumping global demand. Yen appreciation erodes overseas profits when repatriated to Japan and makes products more expensive abroad.

Now how bad is it for Sony?? Answer - BAD!

Look at the history of the Yen. When the PS3 was launched in the U.S. the Yen compared to the Dollar was in the ¥117-¥118 range, today its at ¥89!! Representing a whopping 25% drop!!

Sony is making 25% less money on every PS3 sold in the states since launch, that doesn't even include the official price drops.

PS3 - 40% Price Cut Since Launch

Now what happens if we take into account the official price cuts?

Nov 2006 - Sony made ¥58,882 from every 20 gig PS3 sold ($499)
Dec 2008 - Sony makes ¥35,511 from every 80 gig PS3 sold ( $399)

That's a 40% price cut since launch! Do we really expect Sony do cut another $50 off the console? That would amount to a 49% price cut from launch!

How much further can Sony go? Can the U.S. dollar rise back up against the Yen and how long will it take? No one really knows.. but the Yen is at a 13 year low and this will lay heavily on Sony's decisions to cut the PS3's price in the US for 2009.

This is the problem that sony has but once it is rectified we will see a ps3 pricecut and an awesome comeback for sony.

So Morganfell stop lying and just admit for once that MS did well against sony in this instance. And also stop with these lies about software sales - or lets see some evidence to back it up because I see xbox software doing absolutely fine in Europe.

And please have an open mind that MS may actaully have something planned for next year that hasn't been announced. Fanboys like you are unbearable.

Please tell me that you are just being facetious. Well just in case you are not.....giving how many consoles the Wii have sold why does it not have all 10 sale spots on lock? Hmmm.......could it be that in order to have a game in the top 10 spot.....the masses have to buy it. So, is it not possible to a bigger hardware fan base, but have less of those users purchase the software? Here, let me give you an example: Lets say Microsoft has 2 million 360 users, but only 100,000 purchase a game.........but Sony has 1 million ps3 users and 500,000 purchase a game.........so of course the ps3 game makes it to the chart...even with having the smaller user base. That my friend, is how you use common to put out a fire....especially if your intent was to start a flame.

Microsoft has done well against Sony in one month. They don't deserve a pat on the back for that. For the entire time since the PS3 launch Sony has beating beating Microsoft's backside in Europe making these gains.

It's a laugh that people like you can't figure out why Sony doesn't cut the price of the PS3. They don't need to. Everyone keeps looking at US Sales. I live here and have enough of an expanded mind to know the US isn't the world.

When you combine US Sales and Japan sales the PS3 moves ahead of the 360. By 30,000 consoles.

Now combine the European sales. Despite the bump MS has received, at the end of the year Sony will still have outsold MS worldwide. Outselling means they continue to gain. It is that simple and is the reason Sony hasn't cut the price of the PS3. Everyone keeps throwing their head around. Everyone except PS3 owners because they know. Sony hasn't cut the cost because they do not need to.

And say what you want, Killzone 2 will be the impetus that crushes the bump because bumps do not last. They settle back to normal and the PS3 will go back to making it's gains passing the 360 in total European sales before next June. Goodbye MS, enjoy your new home in last place.

However where is your pat on the back for microsoft - as you've pointed out the ps3 has been consistently outselling the 360 in Europe until the 360 cut its price and caught up the lead and passed MS. But now MS has turned the tables and gained some ground back - quite an impressive feat considering this was supposed to be sonyland. But instead you try and play any MS success down, saying its only been for a month and will be over soon blah blah blah.

Then you have the audacity to say I never give sony credit when I've stated in almost every post i've made that the ps3 is doing well and I like sony whilst all you post is hate for Microsoft. yes it can be argued that sony do not need to drop the price - well if fact if they want the ps3 to be profitable next year it will be hard for them to do so. However since microsoft price cut in Europe they have been making huge gains and especially where I live in Europe. MS won't be in 3rd place next year there is no chance of it. The lead after christmas will be around 8 million. I think it will take sony at least until christmas 2010 to overtake the 360 (which I think it will eventually do). However the longer the ps3 doesn't have a price cut the further it falls behind - that is why it needs a cut because it is still nowhere near mass market price. Thats the problem MS had before this year as they refused to cut the price and part of teh reason why the wii is so successful - because it started off at a mass market price - impulse buyers could actually afford one unlike the competition.

By March 2008, the Xbox 360 had reached a software attach rate of 7.5 games per console in the US – a record for any console in history; the rate was 7.0 in Europe, while its competitors were 3.8 (PS3) and 3.5 (Wii), according to Microsoft. That was in march.

Right now the console has a software attach rate of 8.1. Google it if you don't believe me but next time don't talk without thinking first.

Edit: Disagrees? Are you saying these publications don't use vgchartz, or just that you don't agree that these well respected sources should use vgchartz?
