Whats the point? Yahoo is failing and Live search is failing, no matter what happens, both will still get their asses handed to them by google

4.1 - I got a yahoo account too.
But it's pretty much neglected compared to my Gmail. Microsoft's just wasting their money yet again; why not invest in their core services? $20 million can go a LONG ways.

7 - Well at one point the offer was like 44.6 billion but yahoo(knowingly Google was crushing them)
sided with google with some ad-spot deal and rejected MS original offer. MS knew yahoo wasn't gonna do sh!t and was all talk. Well that deal ended and shareholders are more pist..

A couple of months go by, Yahoo stocks continue to falter, that ceo guy resigns under constant pressure from shareholders.
"Yahoo CEO paying the price for saying no to Microsoft 1st time around" $44.6 Billion.

Now the balls in MS's court, Yahoo gambles and lost, it could of made a lot more than what it's worth or what some are willing to buy it for.

Stupid, oh well that's how business goes. Sometimes you have to put brawn ahead of pride.

Whats the point of deleting your yahoo account? Are you a fanboy to Google or MS? Its easy to kick someone when they are down (no fun in that). But dont sleep on them, look whose beating Google over and over in the mobile search playground. In case you havent heard both Virgin Mobile & T-Mobile are the first of many to sign up with Yahoo for mobile search.

Yahoo is a solid company. Yahoo is not only known for its seatch engine, its an advertsing power house and that is why MS wants them. And yes, the CEO (Yang) stepped down and they are now in search of a new business leader. Yang was one of the co-founders, his skill sets were in technology and he helped grow Yahoo to where it is today.

I still Y-A-H-O-0, do you? http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yi...

But still a bad decision on Yahoo's part. Looks like it's just MS vs Google now.

11.2 - Yahoo makes five times the revenue that
Microsoft does in the online search engine field, and have a much larger market share. It makes no sense for Google's primary competitor to be purchased by Google's secondary competitor; it should be the other way around.

17 - I like how "Sony" fans are now going to boycott Yahoo
This will expand both MS and Yahoo and force google to do somthing they can't afford. Having 40 billion to do whatever you want, when ever you want, isn't somthing many corporations can do. Not without selling assets, borrowing, and begging ivesters. It would take a company like Google or Sony years to come up with that kind of change, just spend at will. If thet get Yahoo for 20 billion they still have 20 more to play with.

17.1 - While that is pretty funny.
You're asking the wrong question. If Microsoft has so much disposable cash on their hands, why not use it to improve Windows 7, release Surface across the U.S. in order to gain public awareness, make MSN a better service, fix the 360's hardware issues, or invest in new technologies?

It's important to wisely use the cash you have available. Wasting half of your resources on purchasing one company says one thing about them: Desperate. They're simply not confident in their internal staff, and feel that third-party staff would do much better under their wing.

19 - Here we go
The three E mantra at its' best! Embrace, Extend, Extinguish! Microsoft has been doing business this way since it started life and they know of no other way to work. They don't innovate or have any unique qualities in any of their products. They just buy something that threatens them, extend it and then by doing so extinguish its' existance.

Some examples:

Sugar CRM, Hotmail, Windows (all flavors), the bastardized BSD IP stack in their OS's, the bastardized versions of the SMB/NMB protocols they use as well as LDAP, Kerberos and MAPI. Let's not forget the completely fubared SIPP implementation in their IM clients. How about the "me too" attitude with Vista in their failed attempt to make an OS that looks like OS X but works like crap. OOOOH I KNOW!! Internet Explorer 8 which is based alot on Mozilla code, why? Simple. They can't code a browser to save their asses either. Then of course is their XML based document format in Office 2007 which absolutely sucks ass compared to .ODF format found in Open Office. The Zune, ROFL. Last but not least the XBox series of consoles and the NXE complete with Microsoft Miis!!! Yes innovation at its' best. NOT

Microsoft fails as a company and innovator. Where they succeed though is in marketing their half assed wares to the masses. If people weren't such lemmings they would realize that there is a much better world available to them in IT and it is absent of all things Microsoft. When/IF the Microsoft bank runs dry and they are no longer able to buy their way into a market or market segment is when the company will fold. They haven't been able to come up with a single product software or hardware worth a damned. If it weren't for the companies and technologies they bought and integrated into their own they would have ceased to exist a LONG time ago.
