Top 100 best video games of all time

"For the past two months, we here at Blorge have been voting for our choice of greatest game ever made. The results are now in, and so we can unveil the official list of the 'Top 100 best video games of all time', at least according to Blorge readers.

Metal Gear Solid 4 was voted the greatest game of all time by quite a margin, beating Zelda: Ocarina Of Time by over 50 votes. With it being a current generation game, I wonder if it would retain its number one slot if the poll were held in a few years time?

CoD4 should be number one so far.. its THE best game ive played in a while.. IMO it even owns R2 beta (dunno about the full R2 coz haven't bought it yet) .. and Halo 3 shouldn't be on that list.. it should be Halo Combat Evolved instead !!

Just because your not playing an fps doesn't mean you wont get a rush.

And anyway you know this list is a fail when Saints Row 2 is ranked higher that Mario Galaxy, Pac-man, Super Metroid, Tomb raider, Zelda windwaker, Gta 3, MGS3 and more.

And why was tekken 6 and killzone 2 added?? They're not even released. They might as well halo 4 on there and final fantasy 13.

Its an opinion poll not a proper list, and i think the peoples opinions are a joke.

Pretty accurate for a top 5. You have the thunderous conclusion to the MGS franchise, the best(?) Zelda game in the series, the addictive and flawless across all platforms CoD4 and the be-all, end-all Halo 3. I do disagree slightly with FFVII being there. I mean, I picked up Ocarina of Time literally ten years after last playing it and it still sucked me in, while my only reaction for FFVII was, "Wow. I better not rewatch Rocky V."

and putting games like LBP above Mario 64 etc is crazy....the game wasnt out long enough to have legs like that yet.

You dont realize you cant base your logic on a beta with a couple of maps...... This list is a fail having games that are set in stone as some of the best games ever such as Perfect Dark which is in the 80's??? Halo 3 above halo 1? GTA 4 above all the others? Assassins Creed in the top 50??

This is all wrong. LBP should score higher then MGS4 (like its on metacritic).

Heck, Zelda should be above it. Gears of War 1 and/or 2 certainly has to be above Halo 3 and at MGS4 level.

I understand MGS4 being that high on the list but Resistance? And higher than Xenogears? This list has too many recent games in there to take it seriously. This is more like a popularity list chosen by kids than a list about the 100 best games ever.

Harry Potter #74? OMG...
There's no Dragon Warrior, Shining Force, Bubble Bobble, Contra, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Terraigma, Shining the Holy Ark, Suikoden, Earthbound, Phantasy Star, etc. There's not even a single Saturn game or arcade shooter like Don-Pachi.

I know I'm going to loose another bubble for saying this but in that list there are a lot of games like Resistance that don't deserve to be there.

I dont care if some wanker game from the 1990 was better at the time it was released, than Halo 3 was when it was released. AND NO, HALO 3 IS THE GREATEST FPS RELEASED! no other game surpasses what halo 3 online has to offer.

It has to do with age groups. Most of these kids are born in the PS2 XBox era. I've been a gamer since the Atari, so I've seen my share of good and bad games. I'm honestly satisfied with the top 2 but everything is very questionable starting with Halo 3. I came agree that it should be in the Top 100 but it shouldn't be anywhere near the Top 10. FF7 should be around the 10 spot. My List would be:

1. MGS3
2. The Legend of Zelda: Orcarina of TIme
3. MGS4
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Xenogears
6. Super Mario World
7. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
8. Megaman 3

Just like any other poll, it says more about the people who vote on it than it does about the merits of the games. If you are a cute platformer which doesn't have the words 'Mario' or 'Sonic' in your title you may as well forget ever having existed as far as polls are concerned (The great Banjo Kazooie fortunately got some votes).
Lemmings? Cannon Fodder? Monkey Island? Monty Mole? Manic Miner? Jet Set Willy? Rick Dangerous? Superfrog? Fire and Ice? Magic Pockets? All those great Disney games on the Megadrive eg Aladdin, World of Illusion? They are not on the register for many people who would rather play some cod attempt at cinematic storytelling, although it is nice to see Bioshock on there.

Some of these games deserve to be there, but not all. Some are too early to tell. Gears of War and Gears of War 2 have no business BOTH being on the list. Gears 2 trumps Gears 1 and makes it ultimately pointless. Gears 2 hasn't been out long enough to warrant a spot (less than a month!). Sames goes for Resistance 2. Neither of these games are timeless. They're awesome right now, but when Gears 3 and Resistance 3 come out, they'll probably be pretty pointless games. We don't know that for sure, I mean there are plenty of games that are still worth playing despite having sequels come out (the entire Metal Gear and Mario series' comes to mind, Super Metroid comes to mind, Symphony of the Night, and on and on), but I think most newer games don't have much timelessness in their design.

Metal Gear Solid 4, while I would be hesitant to put it anywhere near number 1 on my list of the top 100, deserves to be on this list more than any other game that came out this year. This is because it will most certainly be worth going back to no matter how many Metal Gear games come out, just like its predecessors are still worth playing.

Older games seem to have been all but forgotten for this list. The highest rated game that appeared before the PSone/N64 era is Chrono Trigger, at 20th. That's pretty pathetic. Timeless classics that defined videogaming are either absent or unfairly low on the list. 8 out of the top 20 appear exclusively on current generation hardware! And one of those (Killzone 2) isn't even out yet.

To sum up: this list is pathetic.

Oh wow. I'm amazed that MGS4 won. It certainly deserves mentioning because it's a phenomenal game, but I'm very surprised that it beat out fanboy-favorites such as Halo, OoT, and FF7.

I am quite sad to see such a lack of PC games on that list. There are so many underrated and unknown PC games that knock the socks off of 99% of console games.
