Xbox Teams Up With MySpace And Channel 4 For New TV Show

Microsoft has told MCV that its 360 marketing will get 'louder and louder' over the next month, culminating in a partnership with MySpace and Channel 4 to host a special prime-time music show airing on TV at Christmas.

2 - That's Microsoft,
it's all about throwing in money in all directions. If you look at the xbox360's biggest games, they have never been released without some major marketing and some random tv show to make it seem as if the game is the next big thing, and people actually buy it.

Anybody remember the MTV Xbox360 Launch special, or the Gears of War dev. show, or History Channels talk about Halo 3 and the weapons of the future, or the the random SCifi show about Mass Effect? LOL, MS has a hype machine in their hands.

well you need to spend money to earn money they always say and well MS is taking the advantage they have which is money.. wouldnt you if you were in their shoes?

Plus i wouldnt think i would be hearing all this bashing of marketing if SONY was doing this, if they switched roles people would be giving praise...

4 - Well MS has stated that the Xbox360 will be around for a long time right?
So in that case, THIS YEAR has to be the Xbox360's biggest year and it has to widen the gap over the PS3 much more because if it doesn't it might be in trouble. Microsoft knows that the PS3 costs 2x more than the Xbox360 and Sony really sucks at marketing, yet it still manages to outsell the xbox360 for months in MS's strongest region. I don't see MS giving the xbox360 another price cut anytime soon so they have to hop that the PS3 won't pull it off again in 2008.

5.3 - sorry buddy.....
....think you got the companies mixed up there.

Hypes good as long as you deliver on it. Problems occur when you keep hyping stuff forever and when it finally comes out, it turns out to be overhyped and not worth it.

As much as i hate microsoft and love sony, microsoft really deserve to kick sonys ass this christmas, due to the amount of advertising Microsoft has done. They were even advertising on the front and back pages of the Metro and Observer in UK. The 2 biggest papers. And i dont see any sony advertising which is a shame.

Microsoft's doing now, what Sony did before with PS2. The PS2 advertising was everywhere during its hayday. Microsoft are now just hyping their console for more and more sales.

11.1 - I think its a trade off
1st party support vs heavy marketing. What would you prefer. If either could do BOTH im sure they would but as you can see they have both taken different routes almost.
