Lol. Shipped.....

11 million NPD
800,000 Media Create
7 million EU.

That isn't 25 million. Ok I think NPD is 12/13 but still that isn't 25 million. It's like 20/21 million.

EDIT: oh at the end of this month. Ok so it should sell 4 million units at the end of november. Cool Well done Microsoft.

CAN : for all i know, Canada is part of Americas region (unless you can show a link)

1.7 - Sony and MS's numbers are both shipped!
Not just MS! From this news we can tell that MS is not at 25 million in people's homes but 25 million in stores. So for actual numbers in people's homes take 1-2 million off.

Same goes for sony and nintendo's numbers.

All ship to retailers because there is no way of knowing accurate numbers of sold to consumers. Thats why services such as NPD exist!

Alot of ignorant people once again, with only a few actually in the right!

Edit: Come on, explain how i'm wrong if you disagree!

Mint, you're wrong because Sony have been reporting SOLD numbers for a long time now. M$ reports SHIPPED. You want a link, look it up yourself. Thats just how it is and has been for over a year.

PS
Its not hard for Sony to know how many units sold when they know how many they send out every month to retailers. If they keep 100 in stock and order 50 the next month they probably sold 50 of them. M$ could easily report SOLD as well, but they like to pad their numbers cos people keep believing them. Remember Christmas 06 when they flooded the retail chains and claimed they had sold over 10M, only then they didn't sell quick enough (what do you know, they had 2 consoles to compete against now) and they had to cut their shipment forcast and they stayed slow til about April/May. Later it was reveal they had only sold about 8M for the year, not over 10 or 11. Hence why M$ reports SHIPPED. Now you tell me why I'm wrong.

You don't have a link Bathyj, if you did you would have used it to prove your point. Sony on the other hand changed its policy and stopped reporting shipped and sold. Now thet combine the two and report that, they did it so investers wouldn't worry about the huge loss they were taking on the PS3. MS has never had to do that, they don't have to because the 360 is in 2nd, and the sales are still healthy. MS and Nintendo don't need to play dirty, it's always the whiner in last place that does that.

Have a happy Thanksgiving...:)

Man, thats funny. From a company that still hasn't made one single red cent of profit overall in 7 years.

1.12 - Haha bathyj
I commend you for trying but it seems your interpretation of financials are abit off.

Yes Sony did change the way they report their figures, they changed from reporting shipped to warehouses to shipped to retailers in line with Nintendo and Microsoft. I repeat no company in the world can know exactly how many consoles are sold they can only know demand roughly from the orders retailers are putting in.

Please try not to be a fanboy, what does it get you? It isn't going to change the facts.

1.13 - @ Ars....
Who cares if its shipped or sold as far as MS, Nintendo or Sony is concerned they still get their money when they ship the products. Do you think they ship the goods before payment. No its C.O.D. muthafuqqqa (Cash on delivery or even before that). Silly fanboys console numbers are for kids, just go play your pokeman on your DS and STFU!

Edit:I'm actually surprised they hit 25M before Christmas, best wishes to Sony as competition keeps MS on their toes, and we all know the big "N" dont need any help. (PS where is the HD Wii I may actually grab one for my daughter but HD only, is it even in the pipeline still? 2011 is too far!)

I WONDER HOW MANY MILLIONS ARE REFURBISHED REPAIRS?
Shut this user up Let user speak
mint royale - 393 days 8 hours ago
1.15 - None is repairs
because when any company reports shipped figures it is figures for consoles that the company has been paid for - thats why its in the FINANCIALS. In other words MS only get paid for their new consoles not refurbs, their shipped figures are figures of xbox's off the production lines. Did sony include repairs of the ps2 faulty disc drive in their numbers? Course not so stop being a fanboy with absolutely no relevant facts or basis for your accusations except MS is teh evils!!!!1!!!

2 - this is shipped to stores and not sold to the customers.
cause there is no way to track sold to customers this fast.(i mean to find out how much was sold to customers on the same day as it happens)

i think MS will ship 4 million in the holiday quarter which will bring the total to 26.5 million shipped by the end of year(so they will ship 1.5 million more units for the reminder of the year)

2.5 - Not sure what MS means by "installed"
But these are most certainly shipped numbers. MS's own numbers just put them at 22 million at the end of last quarter, and they have not sold 3 million since then by any stretch of the imagination (the past two months since the price cut they've shipped around 800,000 consoles). Logic would dictate that if we're missing 2-3 million consoles to meet MS's number, the most obvious answer is they're counting units sent to stores for the start of the holiday season.

2.7 - darkride,
NPD shows almost 400,000 in sales in October alone for the U.S. Europe and others sells approximately the same. Japan has also seen a rise in sales. November of last year shows 770,000 Xbox 360's in North America. If Octobers year over year increase is any indication, we can expect to see close to 800,000 in North America alone. Once again, factor in the rest of the world and you can see how it is very possible to achieve when added to the 1.1 - 1.2 million sold in North America this last two months.

Some food for thought, December is the big month. Last year there were 1,260,000 Xbox 360's reported by NPD. It is very possible that Microsoft will be past the 27 million mark by the end of the year. This means that both Nintendo and Microsoft are gaining market share since they have both surpassed their previous install bases with less time on the market.

25 million is enough to get all 3rd party devs to support the 360.

Nothing is going to change that for the duration of this generation.

5.5 - Have they really taken market share away from Sony?
I mean, take a look at your game sales charts. Notice something in the top 10 that seems out of place to you? It's PS2 games, still hanging in the top of the charts worldwide. Have a look at sales for the new WWE game, it's selling better on the PS2 than the 360. It's still consistently holding it's own against all the newcomers. So, how on earth do you think that MS has taken that market share away from Sony? The PS2 is still selling, and still moving software. It's not like these sales just ceased the moment the 360 was launched and the next gen began.

Consider MS games division reported a revenue of 8 billion for fiscal 2008, vs Sony Games 12.2 billion. Compare that to fiscal 2007 which saw MS at 6 billion compared to Sony's 10 billion. Both of these grew year over year, but one didn't grow at the expense of another.

5.7 - Of course they're proud of the PS2.
You'd be stupid not to be. Do you think Sony's all upset their low-end tv's sell better than their hi-end? Or their lower end cameras sell better than the top of the line stuff?
As for the fanboy comment, I'm a 360 fan. (DarkrideHex66 on XBL). I'm loving Fable 2 and Gears 2 to death right now. But only a moron would view the PS2's continued revenue stream as a bad thing while the PS3 is still selling faster than the 360 ever did (just look at how long it took the PS3 to hit 15 million vs how long it took the 360 to.)

Just look at the revenue numbers and it's clear that 360 revenues are still growing - but to claim that they're growing at the expense of Sony just isn't supported by the facts, MS games took in 4 billion less in revenue than Sony games in 2007, just like in fiscal 2008. Sony still brings in far more between the PS2, PS3 and PSP than MS can realistically hope to. You don't have to be a deluded Sony fanboy to understand that, it's pretty cut and dry. I'm just looking at this from a rational business perspective - not a fanboy system wars "GOO HALLLLOOOO!" perspective.

5.8 - Why would all the PS2 owners jump to the PS3 already?
A vast majority of the PS2 owners are mass market or casual owners. They bought when the system dipped below $199. The PS3 still costs twice that amount, so winning these consumers over is not an option at this point in time. If these consumers don't jump when the PS3 hits the mahic $200 mark, then you have a point. Until that time passes, it is silly to think they will jump now.

8.2 - What's funny is people still point fingers at the PS2.
You know what, when my 3rd 360 console died on me...I didn't for one second think "Oh well. 8 years ago the PS2 had some issues as well."
No, I thought "This sucks. This has been almost 4 months now I haven't been able to play the bulk of my games library. If I had any idea what a hassle this would be, I would have never, ever bought a 360."

Really, people who get hit with RROD don't care what the hell happened to the PS2 8 years ago. It has zero bearing on what's happening with the 360 right now.
Shut this user up Let user speak
outlawlife - 394 days 1 hour ago
8.3 -
you're right it has no bearing but the rrod thing gets really old, people act like no other console has had nagging problems

rrod happens it is a fact, but what can you do? if it happens they fix it and thats really it

my 360 has rrod 2 times and it has been replaced for free both times no questions asked

my ps2 bricked on me a few months after launch and they charged me to fix it, it came back and was dead again within 6 months and they wanted to charge me for a repair again

it is all in how the issue is handled and what your personal experience is, if you have a bad experience with a problem it sours you, if your treated well you deal with it

i had a bad ps2 experience and felt very ripped off, up until now my 360 problems have been dealt with for free and really fast so i havent turned yet, if it some how does screw me over down the line my views will change

but it all comes down to each individuals experience, and those who are blind to the problems of other consoles and act like 360 is the only device to ever have troubles then you need to pull off the rose colored glasses

I wonder if you have ever lost a whole days playingsession due to disc read error and no autosave (Halo 3 for example)...
I'm guessing your answer will be "ofcourse not you blind sonyfanboy"

BTW to all the Valkyria Cronicles-fans out there: I beat Jaegar's tank in chapter 17 in 5 turns. Grade A and 90k exp and $190k. I'm so happy (and lucky also). This has to be one of the greatest games of all times along with FF7 and Suikoden!!!
