World first review - Prince of Persia gets 8/10

OXM UK has reported that in its latest issue, Prince of Persia scored 8/10 in the world exclusive review.

Reviewer Gillen McAllister says "the look, the feel of the game, is one that turns back time and makes what was once the waning memory of an ailing genre fresh once more."

An 8 is a good store considering the convoluted standards most sites use. Just not my kind of game. I miss that darkness, that sense of foreboding that seems to be lacking in the trailers and game play I have seen thus far.

Not a bad score. Going to keep my eye on this one, might pick it up at a later date.

One issue I have based on the gameplay videos, if you mess up or cant make the distance of a jump your partner (the girl) will appear above you, grab your hand and swing you to the platform. Now that sounds all fair and good but to me I always just think, hey why doesn't she just warp you both to the end of the level? Hopefully that's addressed in the game somehow.

The only thing that I don't like about this Prince of Persia is that the girl is always there to save you if you miss a jump or if you are about to die because that makes the game a little too easy for me. Also, most of the gameplay videos I've seen so far only have you fighting one enemy at a time and I hope that's not the case throughout the entire game.

I would have preferred if this Prince of Persia was like ICO where you had to bring the girl wherever you go and protect her, but in this game the girl is like an Aid.

I'm expecting a lot of 8's and 8.5's for this game.

I actually like the one enemy at a time gameplay. It reminded me of SotC, fighting bosses that feel epic (not in scale this time, but strength). I'm also not sure if those guys are the only enemies though. They have those wall sliding monsters in the previews I've seen, so there's probably some other enemies scattered around.

I agree about the woman though. I would have preferred it if she was more like Yorda. Instead she's totally invincible, and constantly saves you, making it feel as if there's no real punishment for messing up (although I think you do reset back a little). It's like they made dying a possibility and then gave you a side character that made it inconsequential (unless you're going for the achievment/trophy).

Overall I'm looking forward to this game. Unfortunately I've built it up in my mind as ICO+SotC+PoP, and I doubt it'll be quite that good. I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, but we'll have to wait and see.

8 is not a bad score. Not all games can be 9+.

8 = decent game. Worth a rent at LEAST. (I dont buy single player games, but will def. be renting this one!!)
