WoW Widows Back in Full Force

It seems over on the other side of the pond, men are choosing WoW over pregnant girlfriends, and far over the complaints of their significant others. Partners choosing WoW over each other is nothing new. Since early 2005, a Yahoo! Group has existed offering support for those who find themselves second to a dancing Night Elf avatar. Named World of Warcraft Widows, the group is nearly 4,000 strong, and one of the larger public groups on Yahoo.

1 - True gamers...
I'm a total nerd and a pc gamer. I love building computers and do that for a living. However, Nothing... and I mean nothing beats the warm touch of my wife. People having this problem need to reavaluate their lives. Computer over woman? ARE YOU CRAZY??

WoW sells record numbers, articles about it`s dangers pop up. Lordkemo, you are part of the silent majority, like myself and I am a Big fan of wow. I Feel for the wow widows, but they where with douches that clearly could not control their gaming habits, their are many booze widows, gamling widows and crack widows also. Maybe they should concentrate on looking for another man instead of crying about the tart they where with.

Sadly the extreme minority cases are what people prefer to talk about and draw a generalisation of what wow players are like. 4000 people in the news group is small considering 11 million people play, it means that 0.03636363636363636% of wow players are douches that and clearly idiots for putting wow infront of real life and sex...

That's exactly what I'm thinking. If anyone is even remotely lucky enough to find "True love" or a form of love within' this world why jeopardize it with a game? That game will always be there but that woman won't and many do not have the patience to hear "Wait just one more minute I'm raiding with the guild!"

and Montrealian is right, I'm just about to jump back into WoW (just got my 60 day gamecard for today) but I certainly won't let it interfere with my school work nor social life. This is a game that probably will just be played in the wee midnight hours or something of the sort. It's a fun game I'll admit, but not fun enough to pass up the nice touch of a lovely lady or give up the chance for a nice cuddle.

Obviously, I'm with you guys. Most of the people who play WoW are fine, but a few outlandish stories like the ones mentioned in The Sun and some doctors becoming worried about teens playing too much, and suddenly everyone's an addict.

I'm not going to say there aren't some people who seriously need help; look at the friend of that Trevor guy in the article's comments. But for the most part, the hardcore WoW-playing people I know aren't any more addicted to WoW than other people are to reading or watching TV.

Heh, I was in the same situation...where I had to choose between an MMO and my gf...I chose my gf because I realize that the game is not forever like a partner.

Sounds more like your boss than your true love tbh. Being in a relationship is about respecting eachother, not blind obedience (and certinaly not one-way). I know of a few relationhips like that I think it's kinda sad. Not saying yours is, but you make it sound like it is.

Are you insinuating that she would leave you if you didn't obey her? Is it that you mean by choose? These aren't questions you are meant to answer, just think about it, and I hope you'll see my point.

Game addiction is serious business and I feel for both the men and their women here... but I have to wonder if it isn't more important to keep in check at an earlier age, before women enter the picture.

I spent so much time demolishing Diablo II that I started dreaming about finding unique items, and I realize now there were so many better ways I could have spent my time, even in gaming (let alone school, work, building social relationships etc.)

If teens were taught the value of a social relationship the same way they are taught the value of a dollar, I have to wonder if they would ever consider setting one aside for a game in the first place.
