Left 4 Dead Review (old-wizard.com)

Your character in Left 4 Dead dies much of the same way that protagonists die in previous games in the genre. Zombies come out of nowhere, jump on you, and blood comes gushing out, which can be scary if this is the first "zombie shooter" you have ever played in your life. If you're reading this article though, we're pretty sure that you've played them all. The zombies die the same, you die the same, your partners die the same. Everything is just (*sigh) the same.

Personally I tried the L4D demo and it didn't get me all excited. But this review sounds kinda weird. I mean he compared it to the RE series. In the reviewer's own words:

"Left 4 Dead plays almost identical to Resident Evil. Not only does it play like the earlier game, but it looks almost identical to it also."

I mean I've played both and Resident Evil's gameplay is wayyyyy different. In the early RE games, it was usually puzzles and some gunplay. In RE4 there was a lot of gunplay but still a bit slow-paced compared to shooters. But L4D is a very fast paced shooter. I would rather compare it to Unreal Tournament 3 and it's against AI controlled zombies instead of people.

Maybe he was referring to RE5 which does resemble a bit more but it's still a much more slower paced gameplay than L4D.

I downloaded it last week and I must say it's isn't that good. I had it reserved but I canceled it after playing the demo. I guess I got spoiled by Gears 2. Anyway download it and try it for yourself.

In all seriousness, though, the game is good, but it doesn't deserve 9+ scores. It is a short game that is boring unless you're playing co-op, and I do believe that plenty of games (like Warhawk, Frontlines, and SOCOM) have been hammered for only being fun if you're playing it online.

Guys I understand you are trying to promote your site, that doesn't bother me at all, but I have to say it isn't a well constructed review.

What does this actually mean:

There is no improvement in the graphics either, which is a disappointment for a game that obviously gets its inspiration from the Playstation games of the genre."

How does it play like resident evil, cause it has zombies? It isn't a new game in the resident evil franchise, which is basically what your implying...

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, I'm not trying to be rude. I just don't think this review is up to scratch, both grammatically and content wise.

I knew this would happen at some point. Some people just don't like the game - and the lack of content, the poor graphics and other issues with the game just baffle them as to how it can get 9/10s. I'm one of those people though I do respect that many people absolutely love the game and might want to give it that score... but it's lacking in content whatever way you look at it.

After looking at some Left 4 Dead gameplay, to me L4D looks like a 8.0/10 or a 8.5/10 game tops. The graphics are pretty good, but nothing spectacular and the fact that it's just a Zombie shooter and there really isn't much of a story doesn't make the game all that compelling. And yes I know that L4D is all about the co-op and multiplayer, not story, but I think that with so many FPS on the market, the story in a shooter needs to be pretty good/decent.

However, I wouldn't trust Old-Wizard reviewing any hardcore Xbox 360 or PS3 games to begin with seeing that they are mostly Nintendo fans, and this clearly biased review score shouldn't even count towards the Average score of the game here on N4G, because I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Old-Wizard reviews a PS3 game like R2 and gives it a below average score.

However, The only reason why I think that L4D is getting so many good review scores is because it's from Valve, and not because it's a really groundbreaking shooter. I have nothing against the game, but that's just my honest opinion about it.

why cant you enjoy a game, regardless of how long it takes to beat?
this mights be half the length of call of duty 4, but i will play the campaign at least twice as much! way more replayability here! not to mention these graphics are great, run smooth with SOO much stuff going on. MGS 4 does not even run in full 720p, let alone 1080, but you fanboys seem to look the other way when it's on your system. look it up folks, your cherished mgs 4 on the super uber cell could not even run at the 1280 X 720 mark NATIVELY. Native is all that counts. Scaling to 1080p means nothing. My Xbox can scale ANYTHING to 1080p, something the ps3 cannot do and that is FACT.
Im done trying to reason with you guys. im not a fanboy, but simply think that if this game was on ps3, you guys would be crying about how only the cell could render that many zombies, and not possible on 360. I beat mgs 4 in about 6 hours (skipping through all the bloated cutscenes). Blu Ray capacity is only part of the equation. What's the space matter when every hour of gameplay takes half a year to develop? something tells me L4D will have me coming back for much more than mgs 4 did. Not knocking MGS4 though, 'twas an excellent experience.

If you're glad, then why don't you put the reviewer's site in the title or even in the description? Maybe that's because this review comes from a garbage site? You can be glad that someone gave this game a bad review, but it's hilarious that that person is also an N4G user and a Nintendo fanboy. The way people like you go out of your way to hate on this game by simply making up a bad review for it then posting it in the wrong channels on N4G (should be PC and XBOX360, and NOT gaming) makes me wonder how you became a contributor to begin with. I thought I was the only one that found it funny that Nintendo fanboys reviewed this game then commented all over this article. There's not even as many PS3 fanboys commenting on this yet, it's just swarming with sad little Nintendo fanboys.

@ Mountain Maverick - I respect your opinion, and honestly, you have about as much credibility if not more than Old-Wizard. N4G user reviews shouldn't be published on this site with their friends commenting on it to support them. That is all I'm saying. Let's say I hate Gears 2, then I make a review for it on my www.butterfinger.com website make it a 2/10 and get one of my friends to post it on N4G then have them approve it and support it, would that seem a little odd? Especially if all I did was support games like Metroid and Zelda 2?

OK, Maverick - How was EVERY other review unrealistic? See, it works both ways. In order for this review to be "finally" realistic, that would imply every other one wasn't. Also, please tell me how exactly is L4D like RE? The gameplay is totally different, the story is totally different, it's just a totally different game. When Old Wizard compared this game to Resident Evil, it failed immediately. Anyone who hasn't hardly touched the game would compare it to RE because they saw zombies in the description which leads me to believe they may not have even actually played the game.
