Things are looking good for Blu Ray especially since Dark Knight will be out in about 2 months...thats when I expect to see sales explode and records broken...

Sony Should have a Dark Knight PS3 Bundle...

Iron Man already broke records, I think Dark Knight will top even that.

While I personally would never spend money on Tinker Bell, cartoons, be they 2-D or 3-D do show off the quality of Blu-Ray more than live action movies. For example, Cars, Ratatouille, and The Simpsons Movie are three of the best looking Blu-Ray movies currently available.

3 - Good to see.
Marvel to movie conversions have been good of late...except for Spider-Man 3.

The latest Hulk movie I thought was just as entertaining as Iron Man and 100 times better then The Hulk movie released a few years ago.

3.1 - .....
I actually though spiderman was pretty good...... the only thing t hat really screwed it it was the emo scene. but other than that it was pretty good movie. Hulk on the other hand .... I prefer the first one .... It did not really grab me as much even though Ed norten is a gr8 actor.

4 - Some ppl are way to optimistic.
I have been a blu-ray supporter since the beginning and have about 100 discs in my library..... but to say when Dark Knight comes out it is the final blow to DVD is way too optimistic.

DVD is still a beast , and retail shows a nice picture as to how things are going. Most of the stores in my area that sell videos have ~10 percent blu-ray and the rest DVD's. Sorry but retail brick and morter stores still dictate the video market. Let alone the economic situation ppl will still buy dvd's.

Im not saying its not growing blu-ray it is doing very FINE but its gonna take another 2-3 years before we start seeing blu-ray with 50 percent shelf space.

This is what happened with vhs > dvd.... ppl forget that it took a FULL 10 years before dvd became totally mainstream.

From my observation blu-ray is doing a little better than dvd in taking over shelf space but not by much. Lets hope the economy improves.

Thank you for the DVD/VHS 10-year fact. It seems to me that getting that fact through people's heads around here is harder than cutting metal with paper

4.2 - To be honest...
I would not be shocked if Dark Knight did not sell that well on bluray.

5 - Warner Brothers
If Blu ray is going to succeed it needs to be a better experience in every aspect. Warner has been releasing titles on Blu Ray and limiting the audio to dated Dolby Digital. No high res audio. Lame. Speed Racer was the latest disc they did that too.

6 - If you look at the released black friday ads...
Sears have two name brand bluray players for under $200...one a Samsung 1500 $199 and one a Sony S350 $179.

So the darknight comes out in december right? Its all working according to plan....bluray players will be under $100 by this time next year....and the PS3 will be under $300 by this time next year.

Sure DVD will be around forever...just like CDs...but bluray will and is the HD video disc standard. There is nothing else out there to compete. Digital Downloads in true HD and true HD sound are still a ways off. People still want physical media for their movies.

Yes movie buyer and music buyer has two different priority.
Music buyer buy music to listen to them repeatedly, convenient is a key factor.
Movie buyer buy the movie to collect and rewatch them occasionally, physical item are preferred then virtual collector item.

If anything High speed download will more like to hit Rental market instead, not much direct competition with Physical media.
