Speed up your PSN Downloads w/ auto installs

can't say we've stumbled upon this and no one else knows about it, but I can say I didn't know about it until tonight and maybe none of you will have either.

By declining the background DL on your content and downloading directly from the store front and or previous downloads list you can increase your speed and have your item auto install. Check the link for more info.

"1mb per second... Sometimes it drops to about 3mb and 4mb a second"

Wouldn't that be a speed increase?

Hmm, I must have a really good connection then, because even on background download I usually get the norm of 1mb per every 1 to 2 seconds.

In fact sometimes my background I feel goes faster, but it is nice that it installs by it self.

if you line up all your downloads and do the automatic download and shutdown it not only downloads quicker but it also installs them. its a bit easier than doing it this way

Want a speed increase? Then Sony should make it where we don't have to install everything we download.

This might go slower but I usually have stuff downloading in the background plus one demo downloading the normal way.

I was a first day owner of the playstation 3. When the console was first released you did not have the ability to put the downloads in the background and could only download one thing at a time directly from the playstation store.

3.1 - I too am a launch PS3 owner...
And I remember those days. Sony has come so far and it is awesome to see how they are taking care of us when it comes to ease of use for the PS3. We all said it was get better, just wait. And waiting has paid off. Kudos Sony.

4 - Isn't the PS3 always installing everything anyway?
LOL I couldn't resist, I don't come to PS3 only news often, but I just had to troll this. For my rare trolling, I'll approve this news, even though I always approve all (good) news anyway.

Rare trolling on PS3 news eh? I could look up hundreds of comments you're trolling with anything to do with PS3.

Uh no, don't think so, You just think I'm trolling because most of you live in the 360 section. You can check my comments if you wish. You see you guys spend so much time in the 360 section, you think it's your section and any anti PS comments is us trolling. There are more Playstation fans making comments in the 360 section than there are 360 fans. Next time do some research before accusing someone of "allways trolling" it's right there click my name and look what sections the post are in....:) have a nice day

Wait, I'm confused. So do I have to sit there and select each thing I want to download after something has installed, or can I select all I want to download and just walk away?

Yes, you have to manually select each item you want... But I said it's best for just 1 big huge file, like a demo or something. It's amazing how fast it speeds it up and it also installs it for you on the fly.

This means less time DLing and then after it's done you haveto install it... That's junk bunk. With this method all you need to to is Download it into the store front, pick "do not DL in background" and watch it go.

-- It is significantly faster on my end and it has worked for several people who e-mailed me. you'll spend more time background downloading than you would manually doing it this way, we'll put it that way.

Set the system to shutdown after download and the items will install themselves then too.

I've known about this for ages :D In fact, I sort of guessed that that would happen.

The auto install is really useful, if you're playing something like Pain or Rock Band, where you can buy things in-game, and then just play with them straight away.

Yup i already knew this.
At my brother in law i manage to download 2GB in less then 15min. But Having other downloads happening it slows them down. Havnt any of you guys notice that the Download would sometimes stop and stay like at (EX) 200mb/400mb for along time? It really bugs me when it does that. Even for small files it does that sometimes. but downloading it strait is allot quiker. I only use background when i am leaving and know that i will be gone for a while.

Like someone said before, this is how things worked before Sony implemented the background downloading option on the PS3. While it does the install for you, it also handcuffs you into not doing anything else or even changing the screen to the XMB while this is going on. For larger downloads of demos and such, that's a decent amount of time.

If only Sony could implement auto-installs for background downloads...

My demos etc download as fast as my internet allows whether its background downloaded or not.

Do you think sony will do an update to have demos install on the fly while background downloading also?

Wait a minute, how can you tell if it's going up faster if it also shows the % bar in the PS store but not the speed of download.

BIGELLOW - 430 days 20 hours ago
12 - Hmmm...
...this is a bit of old news, as this is the functionality the PS3 had BEFORE background downloading was demanded by the public.

On a side-note, here is how you can download two things at the same time. Select the first one as a background download... and do a regular "foreground" download of the second one. Both will download at the same time. The first one will just be saved... the second one will be auto-installed when finished downloading.

you can background download and install by choosing the shutdown option but only after it finishes downloading. its what i usually do (leaving it on at night) and the next day the stuff i d/l are installed.
