One can tell how good a game generally looks by the way the hair is rendered.

PS3 FFXIII renders hair much better than 360's Star Ocean.

Both games have the same status. Square-Enix is only working on the PS3 version of FFXIII and that's what they're only showing.
Same thing for Star Ocean. No one's seen PS3 footage of it yet.

Nah your not by yourself with loving 3. They could have done the item creation better but I enjoyed the story(When I jumped through the gate and went into 4D space I flipped out) and the battle system and characters I think were done well. Albel was my favortite character though: It doesn't matter how many maggots you've got, i'll crush them all... priceless. I can't understand why this game blasted the way it does.

The character models are ALWAYS relatively low polygon count. The Unreal Engine is good at texturing to hide this, but if you have ever played Unreal Tournament 3 or Gears of War and have seen the textures pop in, you can see how low the poly counts on the models are before being textured up.

The shaders and texture work are somewhat low-res.

This is an early build, however, and I have a feeling the game will turn out great by the time it's released next year.

It's become typical of japanese games to lack modern special effects. They seem stuck in 1999 in terms of texture technology. But the characters and animations look good.

Agreed, if you listen to the podcast Troll boy has basically taken a comment out of context and is passing it off as the whole story. To add spice, he includes the PS3 section which is game has not been announced for.

The game isn't even finished yet in SO's defense. Man, ps3 owners are sure hurt about this not coming to the PS3.

Oh, nice try, but you using ports of 360 games is a tired arguement. It's effectively nullified by the fact that games such as Killzone 2, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank: Future and other excellent looking games that totally blow the look of most 360 games away. Yeah, HAZE was a piece of crap, as was LAIR. However, at least LAIR runs at 1080p.

You really think that porting code from the 360 to the PS3's development architecture is a 1:1 process, eh? Keep telling yourself that Unreal Engine games are the pinnacle of visual fidelity.

Now why again doesn't the 360 have any games that are 1080p and run at 60FPS like Wipeout HD?

Wipeout HD doesn't drop the resolution when there's more racers on screen. My TV blue screens for a moment when the source changes resolution.

Games don't just change resolution, and certainly not while racing. If it did it on the fly, my TV would be flashing like mad and the game would be unplayable.

"They're not 1080p in the sense that the resolution is no longer 1920x1080. WipEout HD is now rendering at 1280x1080 (with some screen tear to boot), which I'm fairly sure is the game's lowest resolution - but still a 50% resolution increase over 720p. So what's happening? Basically WipEout HD is the first game I've come across that seems to be operating with a dynamic framebuffer. Resolution can alter on a frame-by-frame basis. Rather than introduce dropped frames, slow down or other unsavoury effects, the number of pixels being rendered drops and the PS3's horizontal hardware scaler is invoked to make up the difference. It's an intriguing solution that works with limited impact on the overall look of the game (the tearing has far more of an impact on image quality - I'm assuming that kicks in when the framebuffer can't scale any lower).

The actual amount of horizontal resolution being dropped can change on a frame by frame basis: 1728x1080, 1645x1080, 1600x1080, 1440x1080. All have been seen in the Digital Foundry TrueHD captures. The shots above appear to be 1500x1080.

The dynamic framebuffer is really quite an innovative solution to the perennial 1080p problem. Even though we're seeing major differences in resolution, the human eye really will have trouble realising the difference when the detail level is changing so rapidly in such a fast moving game. In short, it's making an advanced-looking game like WipEout HD work at 1080p60 and that's pretty damn awesome."

Unless you are staring at old trailers and going by the demo, you wouldn't know that the final retail version is much better.

You want to talk about bad pop-in and stuttering? Just look no further than Mass Effect, which, incidentally is powered by none other than the Unreal Engine 3 itself and also just happens to be one of the best-looking games on the 360.

I'll just throw Uncharted in here, because the 360 still hasn't produced anything of that graphically quality, with that much colour, with environments that size, with water effects like that and just end this nonsense that Gears of War is the best looking console game, because it's not.

The only people that think Gears of War is still the best looking console game are 360 fanboys who refuse to believe their gaming console has been outdone by a blu-ray player. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS.

Enjoy your games, sure, but stop spreading lies. The PS3 is as graphically capable as the 360, but has a massive trick, IT CAN DO GRAPHICS AND OTHER THINGS AT THE SAME TIME!

The Ps3 is more powerful than the 360. Better CPU,GPU,Optical media and better RAM. All PS3 exclusives run at least at 720p. Haze was confirmed at 720p by the developer. Ratchet and Clank looks better than all 360 games, so does, GT5p, Uncharted, MGS4, and WipeOut HD.

but most multiplats play and look pretty equal if not better on the ps3 now!!! If anything I slightly agree with you, the 360 multiplats used to look and play better, but it is because of the 360 that all those ps3 multiplats are being held back in what they could have looked if programmed for the ps3 in the first place. Yeah and before you xbots all go and say why didn't haze look and play better. My responce is that Free Radical didn't do as good as they could of with it. I own a 360 also, and there have been a whole lot of turds on this system that should have been way better, considering it is being programmed for the 360 first. I will only name one because it was in development longer then Haze and was so shat when released. Too Human was just as much a turd for the 360 and it had plenty of time to be a good game. When Killzone 2 comes out anyone with a 360 and a pair of eyes will see what exclusives that are done well look like. Anyhow Lair looks better then any game on the 360 to this day and doesn't play bad with the downloadable patch, so get off that whole lair issue.
