I really don't see why they are comparing the 2 games now. Why didn't they compare it with the psp version back then. Its always dumb to compare last gen games to current gen games.

F-Zero GX is one of the best racers of all time. I prefer it much over the Wipeout series. Obviously this is all just a matter of taste etc, so feel free to disagree... but the design and gameplay for F-Zero were just amazing. It took a while getting into, but once you were in, Time-Attack became more addictive than porn and M&M's.
The tracks are all very varied, take a while to master, opposition is very tough, etc.

The only thing I didnt like about F-Zero (other than the fact it was on the Gamecube), were the character-designs. It's probably me, but those characters just sucked. Also, story-mode was extremely hard. (Ok... so that's 3 things I didnt like)

But yeah, give me FZero over Wipeout any day of the weak...

untill they recommended playing the gamecube F-Zero instead of Wipeout-HD. FZero has better tracks in my opinion, I love the fact that parts of the track have missing siderails. I used to love taking opponents out by trying to hit them off and at the same time not throwing myself off. And its definitely more of a challenge, you have to break and watch your speed alot more. But you can't say go play an almost 10 year old game instead of wipeout HD.

I can't speak on Wipeout HD as I haven't purchased it yet (don't worry I'll get around to it) but I will say I very much like the original Fzero for the SNES. F-zero GX for the gamecube? I hated it. Honestly I preferred XG3 to that game. I love high-speed racers with weapons.

7 - I just purchased this game...and I have to tell the truth......

It is the best downloadable game on the PS3 right now! This game is so well put together and is so fast and looks so good. There is a campain mode, an 8 player online mode, and just a play by yourself mode. It rocks! It is so easy to play once you get the hang of the controls.

Get this game! You also know they are gonna add downloadable content to this game (more tracks)

Also the tropies are cool in this game and it is easy to get some of them.

7.1 - The only niggle I have with the game...

...is that the high score charts need some attention. They don't update anywhere near fast enough. Also, if you get a really great lap/race time and you are not on-line at the time it does not later upload that score for the global high-scores next time you're on-line. It only remains as a personal record.

However, its a minor gripe for a game I would score as 9.75/10. Its damn near perfect and is the most fun I have had from a PSN game since getting Super Stardust HD.

F-Zero GX is the ultimate futuristic Racer, if anyone has even played it here, they will know of what I am talking about.

Wipeout HD might be amazing also, both games can be great, or is there only space FOR ONE GOOD GAME?

I mean, seriously people, stop all this vs s|-|1t, there is always room for 2, 3, 4, fantastic games of the same genre.

bring a lot of fun and enjoyment to the table for me. Of course, the gameplay itself is the major factor but if everything is pretty to look at, there aren't any graphical glitches, and the framerate is as smooth as silk, for me it makes it more enjoyable. Of course, Wipeout HD has both gameplay and graphics to a T.

Edit: Hmm... I'm guessing people didn't note the sarcasm in Xi's post - Xi thinks that graphics aren't everything so he disagrees with dj_funky.. yet you disagree and I presume the general consensus is NOT that graphics are everything, I mean they're not!

wipEout is a better game imo, however to base this claim only on the fact that it's "next gen" or has "next gen" graphics is baseless. Lair has "next gen" graphics but I'd rather play rogue squadron or panzer dragoon orta any day, it's not a better game then many of the classics out there.

So my comment is directed at the retardedness of claiming superiorly of a game due to it's graphics and not to the online, environments, price, controls, story, gameplay and graphics as a whole package (if applicable). Of course I'd never have to make this point if you were to actually make a decent argument in your post something like "the presentation and gameplay are far beyond that of fzero" as that's mearly an opinion to which one can agree or disagree.

@Xi- I think graphics (in particular frame rate) are a key factor in a game that moves that fast. Just looking at the first video I couldn't even tell wtf was going on with the F-Zero footage.

Graphics don't mean everything, but he has a valid argument, especially for this genre.

Edit: I see your point and agree, but I do think graphics and frame rate can help improve the games of this genre.

I've played a lot of GX and it's a really nice game with awesome gameplay and cool tracks. I've always thought of it as more of a casual racer that's perfect for a preparty.
One of the best titles on the GC imo... never played the arcade version though :(

But I do prefer the Wipeout-series just because it has always been a topnotch game allover the spectrum, it's got style, brilliant gameplay mechanics with a lot of depth... except for maybe Fusion. :P
They should have compared F-zero GX with Wipeout Fusion (PS2) instead of HD imo, since they're from the same generation.

If you're a fan of futuristic racers, you should definetly give GX a chance. :)

12 - Physics are completely unrealistic in F-zero GX

I'd like to see him take that rail-less 90 degree turn at "Mach 14" without slowing down in Wipeout HD. Sure you can do that in F-zero GX but that's what makes it completely unrealistic. Wipeout HD has much more believable physics and the F-zero GX maps levels are more about the frustration of taking dead ends than it is about perfecting the race. In Wipeout HD if you tried to pull that crap, you'd completely fly off the map. And btw there is NO proper mastery of letting you take a 90 degree turn at 2000 mph without completely flying off the corner. What he calls mastery is called a poor physics engine with plenty of exploits.

i loved f zero x!!!!!!! i never played gx since i never purchased a game cube. i absolutely loved f zero x because the racing tracks had a lot of effort put into them. personally i feel that the tracks that were on wipeout hd could of been a lot better but i keep reminding myself that this is not f zero this is wipeout. in f zero x the racing tracks were a lot more wide and at some points you can do race upon all parts of the track. from top to the bottom and to the sides as well. i agree with the fact that f zero does not much skill. the only thing you need to do is make sure your ship was full shield and hit all the speed arrows the times have changed and so have the graphics. I still love wipeout hd even though i think its a little slow for my taste but that does not jusity this game being bashed by the author. It really sounds like hes pissed off cause hes not good at wipeout hd.

It has Rave! Techno! Not Dance!

And I personally think wipeout is a bit better, i couldn't get myself to like F-zero when it came out.

Now I'm not saying it's a bad game, because when I played it with friends, we had a great time! but, to me, it wasn't worthwihle getting for myself

And he complained about the speed? If he played on ..whats it called again? Advanced? or w/e, he would be going about...1000kph?

14.1 - a small note about the music...

a great feature with in Wipeout HD is that if Techno isn't your thing you can play your own music to get pumped up too. so technically Wipeout HD can't have the worst music because you can put your favorite music on it.

Also i think the mode you are looking for is "Elite"

F-Zero Gx is an old 6 year old gamecube game. We are talking 1080p 60 fps the fastest best PS3\PSN game.

while i can't wait until Ninty make an F-Zero for the Wii (it's inevitable) because it will be fvcking awesome with the motion control.... WipEout is just more polished at this point... tactical combat is big plus for me in WipEout, and that's what give it the edge over F-Zero
