PlayOn Beta Unlocks Netflix, Hulu, and More For Xbox 360, PS3

"1UP Boards has pointed our way to the PlayOn Beta, a new service available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. PlayOn allows Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners to watch Internet content from Netflix, Hulu, CBS, YouTube, ESPN and other video streaming sites on their television."

1 - sweet
I just signed up for the beta. Good thing about the service is that you don't need a media center pc. I have one but it doesn't work altogether well. This should be interesting...

FYI: the software will eventually set you back 30 bones...:-(
If it is worth its while I might buy it. Try before you buy I guess.

3.1 - ok, quick review
pretty cool, quick download and setup (5 mins). pulled ps3 to attic office along with laptop (both running from wifi). turned on ps3 and it automatically picked up playon from my laptop. went first into netflix and it yanked down my list of watch now items fast, got their thumbnails pretty quick too. unfortunatly it wouldnt load them but the experience at that point had been so easy i was okay figuring they're still in beta. so i go to the rest of the menu available under playon on my xmb:

> hulu (sorts on xmb just like the site, good quality for slow movement, decent for quick movement, pretty quick load, watched some family guy)
> cbs (sorted by primetime, daytime, tv classics (twin peaks!), movies /specials/originals, all. watched part of the twin peaks s1 ep1, timing about the same as hulu, quality a bit better.
> youtube (figured this would be silly because i can already get this with the browser, in fact its way better, screw going to the browser to watch youtube forever! you can even copy the videos directly down)
> espn (sorted by clips and "sportscenter right now", watch some SC, pretty cool)
> netflix (as mentioned, didnt work, i'll try with wired connection and see if that helps)
> cnn (coming soon)

overall 9.5, this is amazing. a 9.9 when my netflix starts working. i'll be up the rest of the night pulling down youtube clips, watching twin peaks and geeking out until work. if the featureset for playon is this big now i'm excited to see what else they'll get in there. easily worth $30 when the 45 day trialware expires. i thought my roku box was going to replace my cable box but hell, maybe this is now.

try it yourself ya'lls, sign up for the beta, download and playon. anyone get it running on xbox yet?

And give it a try. Sounds like a cool deal to me, even if it is going to be 30 bucks.

This is a great program. b4 the last update netflix was working great. It also allowed me to copy vids from all of the sites to my harddrive including netflix and hulu. Granted the average move on netflix is 4 gig. But with the right software you can chop that down to under 1 gig

9 - MAC support please!
If this was on a Mac I'd buy it but since mac users get the shaft on this then bump it. They just lost a sale from me. Support mac. We like to watch movies also.

10 - Please Help
So to clarify you have to have your PC networked to your game system in order to use this? Or does it have to be hooked up just the first time?

12 - tried it this morning
Was awake at around 3 am and was on this site and saw this. I signed up and tried it with my 360. I was watching THX 1138 from my netflix instant que. Also watched a few youtube clips. A shame I cant input what I am looking for in youtube but it is cool none the less.

It makes me wonder if you can run multiple streams to different consoles. If someone has both a 360 and ps3 can you see if you can stream two different movies to them at the same time?

Nope can't stream different movies at the same time.

The screen goes black when trying to stream a second movie on a different system. when I exit out the movie on my 360, the movie on the ps3 comes on.

13 - I had a problem...
...streaming videos about a week ago with PlayOn all the videos were removed from server or corrupt. Haven't been on since but I'll update my PlayOn since it sounds like I'll need to soon and give it another go.
